As a violinist I just can say this is the best version ever... Mozart is for violinist the most important composer, our future job depends of a good interpretation of a Mozart concert. I use the interpretation of Nikiteanu as inspiration every time I have an audition, she is wonderful..

I must've watched all the Non so più videos on youtube - well, I mainly watched the ones from full productions, though I did watch a few concert versions and listened to some audio - and this has got to be my favorite. Initially, I was a little bit annoyed about the breathiness, but it quickly grew on me as I realized it was very obviously a character choice. The way she sings this role, the way she acts this role, Liliana Nikiteanu is, in my humble opinion, the most believable Cherubino (from what I've seen on KZread, anyway.)

This is the first version of the Habanera, the original one, basically :) I'm not sure if Bizet itself changed it to the Habanera that is sung today or someone else did after he died. Anyway, I was looking for this version sung by Angela for ages, because I heard Elīna Garanča mentioning it in an interview. Elīna recorded this version too on her album "Habanera" and she said she first heard Angela sing it, so I really wanted to hear it. Thanks for posting it!

Apparently, this version was more French and Bizet wanted to make a more Spanish one, so he made the version we know today.

The soprqno (would be a mezzo today) didn't like this version, so Bizet had to rewrite it for her. The rewritten version is he Habañera of the opera we know today.

No, it's not too fast. It's actually no faster than most other recordings. It sounds too fast because the tempo is fluctuating. There's an accelerando at the end of almost every phrase, the complete opposite of what we're used to hear. I don't know if it's sloppy conducting or on purpose, to make the march sound more ironic.
