Awesome this is what I needed. I've been trying analysis star wars score alone fir trying to copy the orchestration for my own composition but it really hard! Thank for this 😊
Going to tell my kids this was stravinsky :D
Do you do all of this by ear or do you pull from scores?
Still one of my favorite Tyler cues. I miss the times when he actually went for some proper dissonance. Even if it was never really all that sophisticated or innovative (lots of obvious influences to be heard here, Goldenthal especially methinks) he was able to combine that with his pedal to the medal action style pretty effectively.
Igor Stravinsky pops up❤
Apes4Ever 🐵🔥🔥🔥
This is awesome! Any way I could get this reduction in pdf or xml?
FANTASTIC work on this, man!
:39 We start hearing speech - till :56 - how are it and the music related to each other (or not)? It is not sung or chanted - how rhythmical is it? Is there any official publication of the text (with translation)?
Amazing !
Let us all remember Cosette and she will live on in our hearts!
Truth be told, this isn't necessarily music I'm drawn to, but I have nothing but respect for anyone who can hold the tension and action up for that long without being either too repetitive or disjointed. 5:42-5:57 cool to see a nod to Silvestri's Predator score
Thanks for making this. It's interesting how simplistic the score is compared to other composers. Just layers of cliches really!!
John , has the genius . Power in melodies, harmony, rythm and orchestration. Fantastic.
John Williams is the most imaginative and creative composer of all time
No oboes? 😮
so similar to the Matrix...
Truly astonishing!
Great work!
Good but like the other tracks I think the replacement tracks they actually used in the film were better.
While the film itself took things a little too far (the nursery scene was over-the-top for me, and I've seen Event Horizon) the score hearkens back to Predator and Aliens and I absolutely love the music. Thank you for analyzing this one! What are your thoughts on how Tyler reincorporated the thematic style of Bishop's Countdown (especially in the last 25-30 seconds) for this climactic composition?
This film ? WHat a surprise ! Why not ! Thanks, it was good as usual !
A real genius !
I recently rediscovered this movie after 25 years. I've got to say, it's a tragedy that more movies like this aren't made more often! This movie and soundtrack is one beautiful little gem!
Love this! Great work, and thank you from Bernard Herrmann and Max Steiner's biographer.
"Obi Wan has taught you well."
I imagine you bought the score off of John's website for this. Anybody know how much that would be. I've never done it for a complete score breakdown. This is AWESOME though. Still love this movie and music!
Doesn't matter how many times I watch that scene, the music gives me goosebumps. One of the finest scores of all time.
Im used to the traditional score organization, so as im watching this for the first time im a bit disgusted, but i still think its an awesome piece
Superb lesson will do it!
The electric piano (synthesizer) wasn't mixed out of the final track - you hear it beginning at 1:18.
.
Where do you get the reduced or full score?
1:10:TERROR, HORROR, CAOS.
Superb job, David! You've captured the 'whole being' of this cue with the score/film alignment. Thank you for bringing this to us!

compare this master class in orchestral composition to the flat, themeless garbage that is in the disney shows. The unexpected change to a minor key at 2:21 is brilliant.
2:48 poor violas doing it without the other strings.
I love composers like John Williams, James Horner, Howard Shore and so many others, but what I love about Zimmer is his simplicity. The way he arranges his pieces show that you can emotion out of a piece even if it’s not incredibly musically complex. He knows how to write for the film rather than overwhelm the audience with crazy and complex passages.
Great, the original OST in spite of many reconstructions scores made since, the original is the most thirilling! The best attempt is for me is the re-recording Charles Gerhardt did with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the 70's!
My favourite Jerry Goldsmith piece from that era, many of his mannerisms would continue to evolve in the 70s especially, Leonard Rosenman may claim to be the master of dodecacophony but I'd say Jerry gave him a run for his money.
I love this score!
Can’t see shit🔍, but thanks a lot anyway, I’ll read it on a big screen🤓
The combination of the violin pedal point, bass melody and chromatic chords played by the piano at 1:29 is serene and heart-wrenching. Reminds me of The Incredibles soundtrack; especially "Life's Incredible Again".
Really neat seeing where that unused march music would have gone! Great work!
GENIUS film music!
I’m curious, what was the source for your video footage. Was it 4K77? The 2006 Bonus DVD? Or something else?
