    He's brilliant but I disagree with him. An extra hour of daylight in the evening is more useful than an extra hour in the morning. People able to exercise and play sports in the evenings while it's bright is a very important thing for public health.

    Jay Rees smugg is a product of the land gentry class he comes from, no independent thought to consider things he hasn't experienced. Could you see him in overalls, mucking out a cow shed, at 7am in the morning, yet he represents a largely rural Somerset constituency??!! Be careful in heaping praise on him just because of his superficial charm, it is what he says and what he does that counts. All I see is an extreme right winger who would set this country back to the 18th C complete with its huge inequalities.

    Get up in daylight in the winter? I'm not sure what time Rees-Mogg gets up, but I'm up at 7am in the winter and it's certainly not light then. Besides, is it not just better to let MPs vote how they want to, rather than sabotaging bills and filibustering?

  • @jimmierustler5607
    @jimmierustler56078 жыл бұрын

    +Paul2377 That assumes MPs always vote for the betterment of the country, rather than for convenience or following the whip. It is the parliamentary duty of backbenchers to challenge the front bench on dubious legislation through filibustering, to persuade other MPs of the problems of bills, rather than letting them pass through without contention.

  • @Paul2377
    @Paul23778 жыл бұрын

    Jimmie Rustler I disagree. But then, it's a fault of the system that filibustering is possible. To me, timewasting just to stop others voting on a bill is poor form. A bit like when Tim Loughton tried to derail the same sex marriage bill just because he personally wasn't in favour of equality. Still, he lost that one. :)

  • @jimmierustler5607
    @jimmierustler56078 жыл бұрын

    Paul2377 You might disagree, but filibustering ensures legislation is thought through, and that those with strong motivation on a bill can ensure a thorough debate against flippant or blazé members.

  • @Paul2377
    @Paul23778 жыл бұрын

    Jimmie Rustler Bills are already debated at length, though. And if something is 'bad' enough then it doesn't need someone like Jacob Rees-Mogg to time waste in order to stop it getting through. I'm glad he's not my MP, anyway, as he seems too concerned with making a name for himself and getting attention than anything else.

  • @jimmierustler5607
    @jimmierustler56078 жыл бұрын

    Paul2377 He is undoubtably one of the most decent and genuine MPs in parliament, ruthlessly polite and committed utterly to democratic procedure. The fact that he uses filibustering to stop ill thought out legislation passing in an empty parliament is a testament to his democratic vigor. We could do with more like him on both sides of the house.

    Abolish the Life Peerages Act of 1958 it was put there so women could sit. It's not necessary. Only hereditary titles allowed in the Lords. It's ridiculous 😒 🙄 😑 🤦 and only allow the King to give out titles not a government except for PM, speaker, Leader of the Opposition and Father of the House which can be automatic peerages given by government for service but all other people being made peers should only be made solely by the King

    House of Lords should stay as it is. A very good house to scrutinize the government without political influence. They check and balance the government. The prime minister should be the one to be controlled. Too much power has been given to PM.

    The bishop's speech is authoritative and well-put. It's a beautiful exposition of forgiveness and mercy. But I for the most part disagree with him. The diminution of the criminal as a result of his punishment for a crime must be compared directly with the suffering of the victim of the crime. It is because of the criminal and his crime that he, himself, and everyone involved suffers. He holds his future in his own hands. To not commit the crime in the first place is the solution.
