Bought this shredder - what a piece of junk. First time - didn't work. Exchanged it - missing parts. Exchanged it again - faulty operation. Went to return it, they wanted a $30% restocking fee that no one told me about. Manager hung phone up and told me I as dishonest and refused to give me her boss' number. I will NEVER buy anything from Harbor Freight again - cheap tools that break and aren't worth saving $10. By the way - bought both shreders they offer - the small one is weaker than a paper shredder the bigger one is unsafe and very hard to operate - especially since they don't tell you you have to hire a professional mechanic to install the high altitude kit. This company is very dishonest.

My prior chipper also had this problem as well. Just tighten it down around the outlet tightly so it holds on to the lip on it and the chute cover. Seems that an improvement could be made to the design of that but all the brands seem to share that weakness. I think they want you to shoot it in a pile and make a mess. Someone could design it different that still is efficient in production. Patent and market it! After a lot of use the plastic slip fastener did break and I use a quick clamp now.

Thanks for your reply Dr. B. I did get my new Harvey C14 Ambassador, and with the help of two neighbors was able to walk it safely onto the Harvey mobile base that I preassembled. Harvey's mobile base seems sturdy enough, and am glad to have it. I only pull it away from the wall at most a couple of feet when resawing, and so far it is easy to turn and strong enough to handle the weight. No bearings in the wheels, but they are rigid, tough, and are adequate. BTW, out of the box the saw was well tuned, table was flat and square to the blade. Once it was cleaned up, and with some slight tuning, it is running very nicely. I did in fact balance a nickel on the table when running-so I am pretty satisfied. Nicest bandsaw I have owned. My first cut (with a Woodslicer 1/2" blade) was to resaw a two foot long 2x4 on edge and I ripped a 3/32" slice that was consistent from top to bottom & end to end! I had an older 14" General, and two Rikon 10" in the recent past. Glad I chose the Harvey.

It is my opinion that your depiction of the wide blade location on the top wheel is incorrect. Yes, it follows Alex Snodgrass's viewpoint from *10 years ago* when using only narrow blades. Using the gullet location in the centre of the wheel for a wide blade is very _dangerous_ . It puts far too much tension on both wheels. The blade should be *centred* back and teeth on the upper wheel. Let the lower one go unless it is very wrong.

  • @sandmandave2008

Thanks for sharing you setup on the Harvey. I'm looking closely at this model to replace an underpowered Ridgid that I've spent way too much $$ on trying to get by. I originally thought that I would go with either the Jet or Laguna, but it seems the Harvey offers more for the price except for the 2 year warranty where the Jet has a 5 year. Why did you select the Harvey? Have you needed any product support since purchase? How well did they respond?

I haven’t needed any support yet. Haven’t used it enough at this time though. I’m building a milling sled for it and that will give it a pretty good stress. My first run at it I made the sled too narrow which limits the diameter of tree I can mill. I’m hoping to get that build and some milling made/filmed in next week.

Contemplating on the x7 vs the x17 for the insta-clean and Pro-exchange rebuildable pump. Thanks for not doing a unboxing video! and for your cold weather needs for fresh water you can get a Dual -Thread adapter for hose to sink faucet at the HD.

Great reminder of the faucet adapter. I use one at my office to attach a hose for spraying things off out the back door. I’ll have to grab one before this fall. Since the video I’ve used it a lot more. It’s a fast learning curve. Biggest thing is to keep moving and when masking off, be sure to run hand along tape well so that it doesn’t blow the masking away. When that occurred in a couple spots I found an awesome solution that removes the overspray as fast as if I were just dusting. I put these scruffy pads on my random orbital and ran over things with some water and it just came right off. amzn.to/3uTGcl2 amzn.to/33M7zBO

In my opinion if you havent got one already, get the x17, only a few hundred more. Reason being the easy pump exchange; when your pump stops working you simply buy another pump and replace it. With the x7 you would have to replace the whole machine! Personally i use the 390, 490, and 695. However these are not in the price range of most people starting out or even professionals but they are worth every penny!!!
