The longest word thing, well, it's a combine word so it doesn't really count. It also makes it kinda difficult to find the longest word. Among the longest non-combine words would be something like "epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäkään" which translate to "Even with the lack of systematization". Finnish is a weird language.

Bravo. You discovered that Finland is not utopia. No one ever said it was. We do have problems like all countries. But we also have many great things people take for granted. ”Happiest country” simply means that all other countries have it even worse 🤦‍♀️

"why is finland the happiest country?" I get this question a lot and I never know how to respond... it's just like, over all we're doing okay here, the system is kind to us and the culture makes it okay to just be without having to take up a lot of space, and maybe that's enough

Nice video! However, the daylight lengths are not correct for the whole Finland as you mentioned. It is a long country and while the South (where Helsinki is) might have about 6 hours of daylight in the winter, the North (northern Lapland) has two months of constant darkness in the winter. Similarly, the sun is up for 2 months in a row in the North and the capital folks get just less than 20 hours of daylight in the peak of summer.

Safety, wealth and monoculture. But people don't want to accept this. Because wanting money is "morally bad" and "monoculture" is morally bad. But the truth is, with a lack of diversity, comes people who work together and trust and understand each other.

  • @Rubycheckers

Doesn't mean you have to be a racist, (Finland is in top10 least racist countries) but it does mean you should accept the fact that unity is better than diversity. It's just common sense.

Great song choise! I love In Love With a Ghost. Finland is a good country compared to a lot of the rest of the globe, but there are things that are getting worse politically at the moment. I personally am doing well, i have a lot of money saved up compared to other people my age, but a lot of people around me are not doing so hot. I have friends struggling with rent and bureaucracy and insanely long waiting lists for health problems, mental and physical. The lady saying "As long as i have family it doesnt matter if i lose a car or a house" yeah family is way more important, but that statement undermines the turmoil of struggling in poverty. The risk of losing a house or a car can be devastating. Finland does have forests covering 75% of the land, but that number is misleading, because only 3% of Finland is natural original forest. The rest is full of young trees maintained for industry... I do love this country and its nature, this is my home. Finland has good ingredients to work with, but there's a lot to work on.

To you wondering what nature means, dear Boxpop, the video maker: To me, nature is Sacred, maybe even above God, above Everything. Or at least it's God or the next thing after it in layers of existence. Physical existence. Emotional existence. Emotions exist. Thought level existence, we think. Spiritual existence, soul. Nature, the flow of nature, what Daoists call "The Naturally-Just-So". To me nature is the ultimate religion. Ultimate way. What nature is not: or well, what is quite far from nature: car (metal from rocks shaped into a vehicle, rocks are nature too, but when you do it to metal and then to shapes, it splits. It gets.. something else. It might not be conscious even, though it too probably is. I'm not sure. But at least, nature is LIFE. Living beings, plants animals insects trees humans too, even though today's humans have many distanced themselves from nature. They eat abused animals and wonder why they feel abused after eating them. They do not make the connection. Not, even though someone wrote a book "Food and Behavior". Not, even though plain water can have made animal or plant spirit infused to it with a ritual of sorts. It's true, I've tried those things, they work. And I'm far from the only one. I know it's hard to believe, but you better trust your experience more than what someone says to you, because in this world now, on earth at least, people live in so deep and powerful lies... that, they are just lost in life. That's what I see makes all the problems we have, or most of them at least. Not taking reality into account, but trying to live in your idea of reality you got from someone who told you things. Trust. Your. Experience. And you WILL know more. Experience never lies. People call things hallucinations and fantasy, but they too are a part of reality. Maybe not physical level of reality, but emotional level of reality yes. Mental, thought level of reality, yes. If you had no thoughts, you couldn't make anything out of anything anyone here comments, especially me. I hope this helps. It may be quite hard to digest. So, I suggest you save this text somewhere, don't read it for a while, maybe for a month, and then read it again, slower and with more pauses, preferrably a bit longer pauses, when you read it. Give the part of your mind that you do not really control, but that still works for you, time to work out these things, and it will be easier to learn. That's the reason we finns are good at learning. We take pauses if we like or feel like it. It's the more stupid people who do'n't take pauses that don't learn.

Oh, and, about happiness. It's very simple, and I'll prove it to you, you just make the connection between the two things we have in Finland: 1. Finland is ranked as the happiest country in the world for some years now. 2. Finland has the most forests and maybe most lakes too, in the world. And the cleanest air, or one of the cleanest airs in the world (I strongly think that Antarctic would be number 1 but it's not "much of a country", with the clean air. As for the sauna thing, I think it is part of our happiness, and you saying that sauna can make people more in-the-now, make them to be more present in the moment, because the senses get activated... that sounds very right, and it probably is. We finns are kinda introverts, most of us, compared to most other countries' folks at least. Very quiet. That, that quietness, is a "yin" state, a feminine state, where you enhance your ability to observe, and thus to gain information and thus to learn. And sauna temperature shift when you enter and then 10 minutes later exit it, can make you more yin or more yang, but it definitely won't keep you the same, because the temperature changes, so will your polarity. Great insight from you, thank you very much :)

I always found it funny when someone wants to experience Finland and then travels to Helsinki. Like, I can understand it considering it's the capital and significant portion of inbound flights likely land there, but it's also vastly different compared to rest of the Finland. It's huge concentration of people(roughly 30% of population in 50km radius), opportunities and money(wages, but conversely also costs of living, are considerably higher in the capital city[Helsinki, Vantaa & Espoo]and the surroundings), but on the other hand it's also massive concrete jungle. Not accurate representation of Finland at all. In your defence I admit you didn't seem to dwell on Helsinki too much and my criticism is largely not aimed at you, I just felt the need to rant about this very subject. Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. Come again in the winter, your sauna experience will be vastly enhanced by dips in the ice water!

I am young, so my english is strange, but please try to understand what I mean. I live in Finland, and we have sauna in our home. I really like to go sauna, but I don't think that sauna makes us more happier. But remember, it's just what I think! Helsinki is very beautiful city, but I live in Lapland. There is sooo cold in winter, you need to test it! I love summer... in Finland, there is so lovely. I think I don't understand almost anything about your video, because I am so bad at English. I can't understand how Finnish can be so hard for others. It's very easy when you live in Finland, well sometimes it's hard but yeah :D

As a finn being connected to nature means a lot of things. Nature is part of our lives and we spend our childhoods growing in it, if that makes sense. We go cross-country skiing, we ice skate on lakes, we hike and walk in forests, we camp, we go swimming in any body of water and we also go fishing. Finns are used to spending a lot of time in the wilderness or close to it and to almost everybody it is the norm. We know different species of trees, birds and berries. We also have our pagan beliefs about nature-related gods. If you're ever interested I suggest you go hiking in Lapland during summer and with a local finn. It truly makes you think of life from a different perspective if you haven't done anything similar before. Oh and a little side note about the woman and her love passing away. Not saying sorry for your loss seemed fine. We don't say polite phrases just to say it. We have this saying in Finland "Otan osaa." which translates to i'm taking a part of your loss and sorrow. But it's usually said right after losing that someone. Thank you for your video, it was calming and interesting to watch!

  • @Box_pop

I think being connected to nature translates to being in the moment more. All the things you mentioned are things that require our attention, and stimulate all of our senses. I guess you could say that about sports too, but I think sports make people happy too haha. I am happy you found it interesting <3

I really don’t think there is a secret to happiness. People have gone through their unique hurdles and ended up in a headspace where they are content with their lives. I personally always go between truly happy and kinda melancholic but in the end realizing my small role in the bigger picture brings me back around to happy in a weird way.

2:37 you could say that the longest day in Finland is 2.5 months. It is called "yötön yö" (polar day or midnight sun) and the sun doesn't set for about 2.5 months. In the northest village in Finland, Nuorgam, the sun doesn't set for 74 days straight. And to balance that, there is also a thing called "kaamos" (polar night) and during that period of time the sun doesn't rise for 52 days in the northest parts of Finland. It is pretty interesting. These phenomena happens everywhere in the world above the arctic circle, but are longer closer to the north pole.

I think for me it is more about appreciating what you have and taking time to enjoy it in the moment; friends, family, pets etc because there will always come a time when you need to let go. There is this quote that I am sometimes reminded of. "In the end only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you." A more appreciate things because life is fleeting type of thing I guess. This was a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us
