The bear was wearing a tracking collar. This is not the bear has had a run in with the wildlife department. I followed one around like this until the Park service showed up. I didn’t think that the bear would actually bother anyone unless a kid came running around a corner and surprised the bear. I had a 10mm with plenty of ammo just in case, but I never had a cause to “bear arms” that day. Sorry for the pun. Okay, no I’m not 😁 but anyway brother Bruin was taken away and released as far as I know.

Park rangers & scientists tag animals for tracking purposes. They watch where they travel, how far they stray from area found, and many other things too numerous to write. This may be a young bear, and got confused or has been around humans before. Like any wildlife curious they are of all the smells, sounds & things going on. But safety first, never approach a wild animal, dont chase or try to get a photo op, its not wise. Bears are timid creatures, more afraid of humans then we of it. Its so unfair to them to destroy their habitat and kill them off. Let them be, they leave you alone, dont force confrontations.

Still no Bear resistant garbage containers at the The Village Shops. Brilliant! When someone get's mauled, maybe they'll rethink their position on open garbage containers. This has been a problem at The Village Shops for years with this exact tagged and collared bear. Love to see them, but not like this.

I think bear also get unfairly put down over peoples fear, i mean last year we had a bear wonder into Chattanooga, which is a two and half hour drive from Gatlinburg, not that far from the Smoky Mountains, everyone was keeping their distance, no one was doing anything stupid like feeding and harassing it, and what did the authorities do, shot it dead, for what? such a despicable gross overreaction.

you gave this bear zero respect and space. You have NO idea how fast that bear could be on your kids. This wild animal was practically cornered and if it had attacked you, or heaven forbid, hurt or killed one or all of your children, sadly, the bear would be put down. They are cute and they look cuddly and friendly, but they WILL kill you. You were lucky.

Co-sign. I could not beleive the idiotic reactions people were having in video. Street was full of Darwin awards about to happen. Black bears only come around people if they are ill, or some how desensitized, it's not normal behavior. This was an extremely dangerous situation. One swipe of that bears claw and your guts would be spilled out. They can go through sheet metal on a car door. Worked at a nature center where we once briefly had a small black bear, very young, they used a very thick rug like a shield to go into his cage for cleaning etc, and even that little one would hit with a force you would not beleive. An adult black bear could easily kill a soft squishy person.

The air flask to launch the torpedo normally has approx 1300 psi in it and there is a pressure interlock that will stop it from firing if the falsk pressure is less than approx 1150 psi. The torpedo can be launched remotely from the CIC or locally from the actual tube. There was a mechanical failure in the air release mechanism as you can hear the flask air bleed out rather than dump like they are supposed too. Funny none the less.

The flask air valve/ solenoid is sticky. Part of the PMS is firing air slugs on a regular schedule to keep it working. I was a Coastie ST and we worked with our gunners mates to do this. On occasion we would load basket balls just for fun.

Seems to me that the compressed air tank was releasing air at a far to slow rate to move the torpedo out of the tube. That or there was an leakage in the pipes so the air pressure in the torpedo chamber never reached the needed pressure to eject the torpedo correctly.

Correct. Either they did that internationally for S&G and this - or a unintentional failure to follow ALL procedures. What they did was leave part of path from air tank to tube open - wast vent air to atmosphere.
