I began this channel as a newly minted MD starting medical residency! I am now done and starting my career as an attending. Along the way I met a guy and got married! This channel is all about balancing life and medicine, because who said you can't have a great career AND a full life too??
A little about me:
-First generation American (Nigerian heritage, Igbo kwenu!)
-Married to medicine (hubby is FM also)
-Traditional student--no breaks in school ever!
-Naturalista
-Love fitness and wellness (plan to practice integrative medicine)
-Very awkward
-Follow my blog www.thebalancingact.live

My plan is to share as much of my journey with you all as possible and answer any questions about balancing life and a medical career. Let me know what you want to see by liking and commenting on my vids. And of course SUBSCRIBE!

Glad I found your video God must’ve told you to post this
I’m glad you’re here!! ♥️
First of all, thank you for sharing so openly and vulnerably. Marriage and healthy relationships are not picture perfect, they consist of real people with real issues. And the beautiful thing about Christian marriages/relationships is that we have God and His word to guide us clearly in our roles. I think that's THE game changer. I'm listening to you speak and its forcing me to lean into the discomfort/tension I'm feeling with the goal of questioning some of my (sub)conscious beliefs about marriage, as well as my general preparedness for it as a single lady. Particularly because I hope to do it God's way and not the ways dictated by my own family or culture. I can't thank you enough for this!!!
Thank you for this comment! I appreciate the feedback. It’s important to think about especially before going into it
Would love you feedback on how you split home chores, especially since you both work. We are still figuring this out 😂
No one has specific responsibilities we all help out but overall Chris handles trash and yard work/anything outside the house. Me and nanny take care of the kitchen stuff, vacuuming, laundry. Everyone constantly clearing and wiping the countertops/picking up after the baby. Having an extra set of hands at home makes a big difference!
Ugh amazing video ty for being so vulnerable about such important things 🙏🙏
Thank you for this comment! I feel like these things are important! We want more full, less stressful lives haha
Very helpful and practical video. I love your vulnerability in sharing your previous views, how you've grown and the positive impact it's had in your life and in the lives of those you love. Keep up the great work focusing on your growth, it's encouraging to see ❤
Thank you! Definitely want to focus on growth for sure. I’m glad you enjoyed it dear!
You touched on such great points! I agree that working on weekends should be illegal lol! But I guess someone has to do it 🤷🏾♀️ Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you for watching!!! And yeah someone has to do it but it won’t be me!
God bless you and your family ❤
Amen and double blessings back to you ♥️♥️
Love your videos so far and many of the things you mentioned personality wise and lifestyle wise align with what I hope to do in the future. I'm a recent graduate, US IMG from SGU, originally from NC but I'm completing an MPH while applying this cycle. Can't wait to watch more, are you open to mentoring and if so, do you mind sharing and email I can use to contact you ? Thank you for sharing your experience
I’m glad you found my channel and hope you keep finding my videos helpful! I try to keep it real and plain lol. In terms of mentoring I’m happy to answer questions here and there but I wouldn’t be the best for you as an IMG since I’m not as familiar with that path. But you can contact me through KZread my email is attached on my page :)
@uncleroyalpain
You are doing great Job just keep it up...
Thank you!
@@thebalancingactmd I have sent you an email just check it out
Thank you, love the day in the life!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for these videos!
Thank you for watching!!
can you talk a bit more about what you do in the procedure clinic? what kind of procedures do you do?
I do knee and shoulder injections, simple skin things like skin tags and sebaceous cyst removals, nexplanon, IUDs.. the typical stuff!
How many patients do you normally see in a day? Do you ever feel rushed or does it feel manageable? Your schedule looked packed 😂
It varies because of the no-shows but I’d say anywhere between 15-20. It’s manageable! There’s times you fall behind due to patients being late or complicated, but you just take it one patient at a time and catch back up. I’m working on another day in the life video to go into more detail, but I’ve done a couple in the past if you want to learn more!
Yess happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you!!
I love your vlogs. So realistic. So chill. So peaceful. PS** Those frames in your home are absolute❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥. You have a beautiful home. Hope you had a beautiful Mother's Day celebration
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoy them, I have fun making them. And thank you I love the frames they add such a nice touch
Was his leg swollen? With recent hospitalization and afib could be undetermined age clot?
Nope it wasn’t swollen at all!
Thank you for all your posts!
Thank you for watching! Glad you like them!
Awwwww sooo exciting!!! Hopefully one day you could do a video on how to prepare for board exams! That would be sooo great to see what resources and tips you used to be successfully! Love your channel!
Great idea!! It’s been a while and I don’t know if I want to relive that era lol. Also I think back in my residency videos I talked about that, so maybe check through those. Thank you for watching!
Ty for your videos :) I’m about to start medical school and being a mom and md is very intimidating to me. I love seeing your videos where you are doing both and totally killing it!
Aw thank you for this!! I love the affirmation. It definitely takes a village though to make it manageable
@@thebalancingactmd yeah 100%! Do you know anyone that had kids during FM residency?
So glad I found your channel IJ ( I hope you don’t mind me calling you that 😊). I am a family doctor (GP) in the UK, so fascinating to see how it works across the pond. Do you have to do home visits?
Glad you are here! No I do not have to do home visits. most primary care doctors here do not HAVE to but may have job flexibility to allow them to if they want.
Aww he looked so excited in the plane! Absolutely adorable. Glad y'all had a safe trip
He was!! Thank you
I love your videos!!❤
I love that you love them haha thanks!
Marriage meeting omg my husband would love that. He wanted an annual meeting 10 years ago and I said no.
Yes we do it once a month or at least we try to. Just helps us stay on track in many ways! I would suggest it to any married couple
@@thebalancingactmd I started doing this with my partner (We're not married, but live together) at the top of this year, and it's SO helpful. Glad I followed your suit.
Would love to have you discuss cases, how they presented, what you did, what the outcome was, etc.
Thanks for this suggestion. I’ll try to talk more about my interesting cases! Sometimes I worry about sharing too much patient information but I can do a little better sharing stories
Love your channel
Thank you for that! I’m happy you’re here!
😢 *Promosm*
So glad I found your channel! I’m graduating as a doctor in the UK this summer and love watching your videos! Your authenticity is a breath of fresh air 🌿
Aw thank you for that! I appreciate it and really happy you are here!

For someone who is a 1st time mo I l like the way you are with your son he's going to be a movies boy lol I think that s great your son is lucky
Haha thank you for your kind comments!
Aww… I felt this one, being a full time mom, doc, wife and a whole person can get overwhelming. Almost done with residency and I will lowkey miss night shift/electives cuz that’s a good chance to catch up on myself even with the guilt of being away from family. Long story short, you are doing great! Quite a role model and feel free to be more expressive… life be lifing sometimes😂
Thank you for your solidarity and encouragement! Those days come and go. I’m grateful that they are few and far between for me! Hope you are doing well sis
Yes hes a big boy and cute. Growing like a weed
Chris is always at the gym when does he watch the baby he has get use to the b as by crying they do cry a lot😢
Yes!!
Youre 2 😊funny
lol thank you!
Can you tell your salary? :(
No I’m unable to
OMG, I used to follow you on Instagram back in medschool until I lost that account. I remember your first day of Residency when you shared how funny it was that you had a patient panel and how you navaigated asking for help etc. Now I found you here after 4+ years and now you're a whole attending , mum and wife. Congratulations 🎉 I'm gonna stop rambling now but I'm so happy to have found you here
Haha welcome back!!! Glad you’re here
Great video! I’m a graduating med student finishing this May🎉 Curious how you generally managed finances as a resident (rent/mortgage, loans, travel etc)?
Whoooo congratulations!! Great question, hard to answer in a comment but I bought a condo, was dirt poor until my first residency check lol, paid my bills and saved the rest, got disability insurance, deferred my loans (and was on covid pause), traveled a lot bc of my long distance relationship and trips with friends and getting married in Nigeria, took a doctors loan for wedding and paid it off after selling my condo-that was a great investment! There’s more details in there but I can discuss this in a separate video. Finances is a major topic!
@@thebalancingactmd Thanks! Being frugal is definitely the best route, it sounds like. I’m generally frugal, and my major expenses (outside of bills) is usually travel. I’ll always leave room in my finances for that. If you do make a video on managing finances as a resident, that would be great!
This was so helpful!
Thank youuuuu!! Thanks for watching :)
I loved this Q&A- I think you dropped many gems in this one. I feel like a lot of this touched on sacrifice, planning, and communications as keys
Thank you!! I appreciate that. I tried to be candid and honest
I felt there was unequal division of labor in our marriage after having a baby. Have you experienced this? How do you manage?
I’ll talk about this in the Q&A!
Your little one is always nice and quiet I'm so happy for you. Peace. Is. The answer that means your house is full of love and happiness that's great you do have great looking teeth
Thank you!
You are a superwoman!! I have a son the same age as yours and he too is a precious, playful handful ❤ I think it is wonderful how you make time to cook, clean and volunteer. You are so wonderful to your husband, son and community. I don't know you personally, but I'm so proud of and impressed by you 😊
Thank you so much! These words are so kind 🥹 thank you for your support!
That who tf did a marry series had me hooked! Love ur vlogs!
