    I tried to kill myself when I was 14. She kicked me out of our apartment when I was 7 just because she wanted to be alone and I didn't even have shoes on. Neighbors called the police. As a teenager she asked me if I had sex with two of her boyfriends 😭😭 I was shocked and said no. She asked me a multiple time and tells me “a young girl who always needs money would do that.” She was so jealous and envious. And insulted me always as a slut… When I got older she used me as an ATM… she stole the presents my boyfriend gave me.. she was trying to copy my life… I broke off contact 2 months ago and I’m still sad about it…

    I'm from south Africa and I posted about this policy. I lot of people in my comment section seem to like this policy. I don't know why. If we cut our fair at school age, when do we learn to take care of them? Then we grow up and wear weaves with an excuse that out hair is hard to maintain!

    Hi Scott, one thing I have been doing lately is living life my own way. I understand how difficult it is in an African home but instead of living up to others expectations try blocking out the noise and live after your own expectations. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’ve got this

    @adwoalee1 thanks for the encouragement. My dad told me this earlier in the morning and my mom said this to last year. There not wrong tho' it'd been nearly 5 years and I had no clue of what I want to do with my life until last year I had an epiphany/dream of what I wanted in life and started working towards it. I'm hoping in the next 5-10 years I would look back on all and smile🙏 sorry for yapping.

    This video was basically everything I experienced as a child and young adult. My father wickedly abused my mother and I and sadly recently found out he has beat her in the past. I have been 6 months no contact with them and i recently reached out to my mum’s former friend who exposed my mom and dad as pathological liars. I was so withdrawn and closed off growing up. I had a 3.0 gpa up until sophomore year of high school. Then i went into a dual credits program and my grades fell. I got depressed. In beginning of sophomore year, my favorite auntie passed away and i had no advocate or compassionate witness. So i became very very depressed and gave up on life. I graduated high school in 2016 with my associate’s degree and then I went to university a scared, wounded broken child. I had no identity and isolated heavily. It was only through therapy that i could begin to share my emotions but still the verbal abuse and family dysfunction continued. Until i reached a breaking point in 2020 after starting to open up and gain friends i had to love back home. I confronted my mom and told her i couldn’t live at peace with her husband. In 2018, i warned her i was depressed and suicidal and she just said i had to pray and have faith. And God will make a way. So in 2020 after confronting her she told me to tell my dad i was looking for apartments and like a fool i did. And then depressed and defeated. I withdrew back into the timid child i was at 3-4 years old until the semester i was supposed to graduate i had a breakdown and tried to unalive myself and i spent 2 days in the hospital. They released me early bc of Thanksgiving Holiday and in those 2 days i made up my mind that i would leave after i graduated with my psychology degree (which bc of the abuse at a young age, i was always interested in helping people. Fast forward to 2023. It had been a year since, graduating college with no prospects and I was getting depressed again. I applied for an apartment with someone to act as my guarantor. And 6 months later. I’ve been independent of my parents for 6 months. Now I’m taking control. I want to be an advocate for 1st and 2nd generation african immigrants especially Ghanaians. That we can break free. So that, the cycle ends with us. And we can heal the multi-generational trauma.

    Peace, everyone I am from the US also just wondering why they just didn't have the girls wear a headwrap it covers their hair problem solved. They could use solid colors that match their uniform. No one that is not the parent should have say over what is done to a child's body be it hair or whatever. But I get it, people must abide by their rules if they want to attend their facility. To parents homeschool in Africa?

    Homeschool is not really popular in Ghana. I’m not sure for other parts of the continent but in Ghana people generally have to physically be in school

    My goodness this is so on point!! Damn. And you know, I am so happy to see this video and thread, because as a South African woman that grew up in the states, my family has such a nonchalant way of gaslighting you, to make you feel like all of the depression and emotionsl you feel are just completely pulled out of thin air. It almost makes you feel crazy, having to questions yourself and your experiences, as if you are too sensitive (which my offensive, jealous, and abusive family has told me all my life). The hardest part is having to accept that they will NEVER change. It really is so dissapointing. I want to be close to them, but not at the expense of my peace and self-esteem.

  • @adwoalee1
    @adwoalee1Ай бұрын

    Thanks for your comment. I think sometimes it’s ok to accept people for who they are. Sometimes it’s hard but it’s impossible to change people especially if they don’t see anything to be changed. Keep your peace and your sanity

    I wonder if it’s done for the same reason as uniforms are enforced; uniformity, preventing jealousy when one child comes from a richer home that can provide the newest and most up to date fashions uniforms are meant to prevent bullying, and to make getting ready in the morning easier for students. I can also imagine it’s useful in preventing head-lice amongst little children (wherever you are in the world, kids will bring home head lice from school - it’s basically impossible for parents to avoid)
