I’m looking for some kind of idea because I keep getting stray cats breaking in my backyard, pooping in my garden and searching for water. I’ve seen a recent surge in the amount of cats around the neighborhood which wasn’t that common. I’ve also seen owners are letting their cats out loose too, anyways I have a big dog who has tried killing them, I don’t want a dead cat in my yard or my dog to get hurt in the process. My only option is to supply water in the alley or front yard to encourage them to stay away from the back where my dog can get them. I could try the pvc water holder but I’d have to undo it just to water it, a pond sounds nice but I don’t know my area being a desert how well that’d work long term. I love the pond idea I just don’t know and attempts in the past to sit out water bowls led to someone in the neighborhood stealing them

I first saw this some years ago and many times went to buy one but the price is high and I couldn’t bring myself to actually go for it. In the meanwhile, over the years I have dug several small ponds in the garden which, although successful for wildlife, never looked nice - lots of liner showing, settling one side higher than the other, problems with maintenance, etc, etc. Finally, this April 2024 I plucked up the courage to spend the money and buy this pond. Wish I’d done it all these years ago! It took me about an hour to get it dug in, filled with rainwater, plants and pebbles. It looks just like a small limestone outcrop which has hollowed out and filled with water. It looks great, it will be easy to maintain and the wildlife is already moving in. It is expensive but you will forget the price and the pond looks like it will last for years 👍🏻

Very interesting, we all know that buzzards feed on carrion and hunt for mice , rats and young rabbits , to see them attack a full size wood pigeon just shows how underestimated they are as predators.

About the little ones getting eaten or killed, it;s sad, but if you take a moment to think about it, it is necessary. If any species would get 10 surviving offspring each year, the earth would be completely overrun by that species within a few decades. And that goes for any species. Therefore there is a balance, a species with few enemies, like an elephant reproduces slowly and gets only 1 baby, while a small mouse who gets eaten all the time, is very fast and gets tons of babies. For millions of years, this natural balance was in place, the only species who kinda broke it are us. the humans.

I was super interested in that pond until I checked the price - a staggering £449.00 !!! I have to say that is an obscene price , it's vastly overpriced . If you was thinking of spending that sum of money for that little pond I would advise you to search for a decent pond firm - who would do all the work & also supply plants , gravel etc & make a super little wildlife pond for you .

I just put it to the test on top of a church here in Mexico I made the sound "shhhh" but he didn't react , then I made sound like a mouse And it came out of the hole directly towards an edge of the roof and later to my head hahaha A very surprising experience, incredible and at the same time a little scary

@indiaoverland2846 Hallo, I wound up getting the Vanguard Alta Pro2 263CV tripod. It's nice. I also got the Celestron Regal m2 100ed scope. I'm happy with both. The tripod has a nice long handle and adjustable smooth friction damping, which is a must-have for me. I needed an adapter to properly mount the scope, so Vanguard shipped it to me . Amazon sometimes sells the scope very cheap compared to a shop. Amazon is where I purchased my scope, and I think the tripod, too. I'd wished i got the Vanguard model tripod that is made so the legs are easily taken apart for cleaning, though. In case I get grit/dirt/sand in trapped in. At the time, that one was too expensive for me. Both Vanguard & Celestron has a phone number, and they will speak about stuff with us in a warm, friendly manner. All the best, prost 👍

The owl aborted the attack because the rat was big or the owl was inexperienced juvenile. That's not how they attack. They attack so fast the prey doesn't have a chance to move.
