Jazz at Lincoln Center's JAZZ ACADEMY

The Jazz Academy KZread Channel is the media library of educational videos produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Jazz at Lincoln Center's (JALC) jazz education programs drive our organization's efforts to advance the appreciation, understanding, and performance of jazz. Students learn about jazz's distinctly American heritage and history as well as its greatest musicians and compositions; they explore its connection to other art forms, and also study how to play jazz.

Thanks for the video. What gauge/make strings do you recommend for hollow, semi-hollow guitars?

You cannot teach improvisation. Its a contradiction in itself. You just impovise.

hello to you. I first heard this Wilbur, track on UK, BBC Radio, late 1950s ( two way family favourites) I was a teenager at that time. Anyway, enjoyed track so much I bought this album following week. Peace to all !!

So… a black man got frozen out of his intellectual property. If you go far enough back, viewing through honest lenses, does the blame for these foul deeds fall upon … Democrats?

Joe had an amazing voice on the bari. Very lyrical and expressive without losing any depth and presence. I think of his sound often when I play bari.

Spanish music or Latin music or whatever it's called, it's fascinating. So many individual percussionists playing all that up tempo stuff in complex syncopated patterns with ace precision. I'm more interested in adding a bit of percusion to my acoustic music but when you get all those guys together, you can't help but move.

If you would have to me an old school jazz master would have more musical influence on me than Jimmy Page years ago I’d have laughed in your face. I don’t even play piano.

I have questions, when people like cory henry, chick corea, jesus molina, bill evans etc seat at the piano and start improvising, have they memorized what they are improvising, or it comes naturally? and to reach that level should I memorize my licks, patterns and scales etc. and improvise over different chords?

Obviously I’m supposed to say that this band was so amazing I don’t think even ellingtons band was as good. I literally stayed up night watching over and over again. Never before have I seen a band of kids surpass the greats…….but they were totally in a class of there own.
