    We don’t get this stuff in Europe- Conventional wisdom here to safely decontaminate a neglected engine is to just change the oil twice as often with “long life” oil to the correct spec - this allows the additive pack in the oil to gently do the job you’re describing here without risk of lumps of carbon deposits etc. clogging oil ways. Revert back to normal / your preferred change interval when you can see the mileage it takes for the oil to go completely burnt black is getting back to normal. As I’m not a chemist, I would not like to think that by adding something to the oil I’ve somehow enhanced its cleaning power - when the specification of that oil was arrived at by hard scientific analysis! Just my thoughts.

    Awesome! Gonna try it myself. Just bought a 2001 S60 and I love it. Not my first Volvo. And they can have some expensive issues. Sometimes the fix is surprisingly simple and cheap.

    And sometimes the fixes will raid your wallet every time you go near it. I have gotten used to that is how it goes with them. I wish they were like the old square body ones that would go 300,000 miles and need nothing.

    Some of the biggest things missing in these reviews are Does it have topology? What is the refresh rate of data pid graphing? How many data pids can be viewed in graph at once. For a diagnostic tech, these are crucial. I appreciate your showing these tools if you could include those points it would be great

  • @guilhermeg345
    @guilhermeg345Күн бұрын

    True. One of the things I tried to find out before buying a scan tool were the polling rates but unfortunately no one mentions it and the scanners themselves don't show it. You can only have a rough idea by watching the graphs and how fast they react to for example pressing the accelerator pedal. I got a launch crp919e BT and it is fast enough and compared to other much more expensive scanners there's little to no difference. It also depends on the car too and how many PID's you've selected. I know xtool scanners are super slow and there's no use in watching graphs to diagnose something. Scannerdanner said this and it saved me a few hundreds. Opted for the launch.

    Yep That's what I've been chasing for years, all of the above. It's amazing how the diag everything has changed a lot. The approach thru to the customer delivery. Can be easier and streamlined and most miss the boat and struggle without proper scanning of all modules etc before diving into repairs etc .. Most techs are lost especially on customer service 🐕‍🦺

    It was my understanding that before you disconnected anything, the heater was supposed to be set to the maximum and the blower was to be turned on full blast. The goal? This was so that the heater ventilation door armatures would move out of the way, thus obtaining more room to remove those clips.

I don't want updates, nothing good comes from them, and I don't remember being told it was subject to a continuing subscription fee. Having been around electronics longer than you've been on this earth, I take exception to the "never gets obsolete" claim. Keeping up with changes in the world of computers, and that is what we are talking about here, was a year by year thing. That is, you got left behind if you didn't keep up with the changes that happened in just a year. The foregoing is flavored by that Detroit engineers replace wires with relays, then "improve" everything around them. Really, that means "save money on wire." Give me hard wire any day. Just like my computer (solid connections versus WIFI) .So to it goes with the insane computer controls that require us to re-program a computer just to add fog lights when, before, we could have just ran a fused line and switch with only a couple termination points. But it is what it is and, unless you are dealing with REAL classics, that are simple to troubleshoot, code readers are a must for newer stuff. ________________________________ As an example, older, distributor rigs often had problems with their distributor gears wearing (going from squared ends to knife like) over, say, 70,000 miles. This resulted in cars eating distributor caps and rotors like candy because of the slop. Sadly, few otherwise competent mechanics knew why, other than that the spark flew off the rotor somewhere between firing points inside the cap, because of the slop. The fact is, those familiar with basic electronics knew coils oppose changes in current. As such, as the distributor set the stage for the plugs to fire farther down the road, with more air gap. This caused the voltage to continue to grow to oppose the change in current. Far beyond normal parameters. Beyond what the dialectic value of plug wires, the cap, the rotor and even the coil were designed to handle, cooking them (but making for some pretty corna shtuff at night). A $20.00 - $40.00 distributor swap later and caps and rotors were back to lasting 70,000 miles, rather than a few months. A much cheaper repair than would have been suffered on the newer car with its "bullet proof" electronics."

    Jesus.....$300+ for that.....i can see why everyone hates dealers. My question and thought. After you drive it and check the CVT dipstick. It now reads low, you add the remaining CVT fluid. How you know if it's not over filled? You check it again and need to rewarm it again?

  • @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs
    @FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs4 күн бұрын

    Yes, drive it for at least 20 minutes to warm it up, check it while running on flat ground and while in park. If it's low, top it off till its close, but not over filled and drive it again to verify.
