How do you creatively describe a place in a creative nonfiction story about a childhood?

Multiple drafts...seems every writer has to brace for this. Perhaps if one "lives up to 80", they may in a few occasions write a draft that does not need revision...encouraging to know that even the most established writers experience this as well-that great writing is lots of re-writing.

Assalamu alaykum, Alhamdulillah, that’s wonderful that Mama Jeanette has always maintained loving ties with her family and in turn her family embraced her as a Muslim. It’s also wonderful that she had protective brothers looking out for her, especially in her search for a suitable husband, mashaAllah. Alhamdulillah, it is clear that she is a powerful, loving force in her community. May Allah bless her and bless you all, ameen. I got my copy of the book, looking forward to reading it inshaAllah!

Thank you. I'm sorry I just found this. I will follow. I finished my memoirs two months ago. I'm in the process of rewriting it, then it goes to the editor. You are so right...it is a calling! I want the message out there to help other people rise above the abuse, sexual molestation and ultimately find the healing of the past.
