I live and grew up fishing the river where the record was caught. The ocmulgee river is one of the only places where Northern strains and Florida strains have naturally hybridized. The river is mainly fished by catfisherman and panfishermen and so it remains a top notch bass fishery if you can unlock it.

@GMarshfishing oh yeah, I have caught 7 over 10lbs in my area. I hate south georgia summers so I only fish the ocmulgee in march/April...but those are the best months anyways lol.

23" bass that's 9lbs is a fatty! My current PB largmouth is 11.4 sh was 26.25 inches long & 17.5 inches in girth. I saw a guy catch a 13 pounder out of same lake the year before so I know it has big ones in it!

Hey bro... keep making videos. You have a real chance to get big doing this. I was extremely surprised that this video was made by someone with less than 200 subscribers because of the quality of the video and the way you speak.👍 Edit: oh shit he hasn't made a video in 2 years... he already gave up 😔

Thanks for this story. George Washington Perry was my Great Grandfather. I've heard the story when I was really young from GPA Bob , Georges second son. You mentioned in the video about the photo that is circulating with the little boy in it? That little boy is GGpa Georges first son, Charles (Chuck). GGpa George went on to run a pool hall. He also made moonshine and made a bit of profit off of that.

I have a 20 acre lake, a 6 and a 3 on my farm. I have been managing them for years. What we do is try to get a lot of people to fish to help keep the population down and anything under about 2 pounds goes on the bank or we take it and eat it. This seems to work pretty good for us. One problem I have had is on my 3 acre lake I had caught a 9 pound bass and also a 12 pound bass with last year so we were not catching hardly anything. I drained it this spring and there was virtually zero fish in it. I talk to the conservation department and also my fish dealer and no one had an answer other than otters. But it definitely ruined my lake. I can empty my 6 acre lake into my 20 and I’m using my six as a bait pond. I put bluegill, fat head nose and golden shiners and crawdads in at this year in the spring. I plan to open the gate and drain it all into the big lake at the beginning of September. I think this will give us a monster fish next year

Find out more about what an Oxbow lake is and how they are actually formed over time, and a few other facts that weren't quite on par with the story... the reason why he and Page even went fishing that day was it had been too rainy and wet to plow anywhere and it was a very cold wet spring in South Georgia in 1932.

I say work on taking out the catfish. Catfish populations should be low enough that they cannot maintain a population without re-stocking. If your catfish have out-competed the bass, their population is too high.
