I see this is from 2016. Let me update you on how things are done now in 2022 (in the USA). I had surgery for a full left hip replacement on 4/26/2022. It was done as an outpatient. I was home by 4PM the day of surgery. I used a walker on the day of surgery. the next day I went to just a cane and I started walking outside. Within 6 days I was walking 2 miles a day. At two weeks I got rid of the cane and walked with no aid at all. At nine weeks I was playing golf again with no restrictions. This was an easy surgery done by a great doctor and while I told my wife I would not be down for more than four days, they were all amazed when I went out the door the day after surgery for a walk. Now at eleven weeks I am fully recovered......and yes, I know what this gentlemen means about putting on your own socks and shoes. It took me about 9 weeks before I could do it myself and about 11 weeks before I could put my left foot on my right knee and put the sock and shoe on. But I can do it now and all I did was walk and some simple stretching. DON"T fear this surgery. It is a life changing event. You won't believe how good you feel.

thanks Bob, I guess everyone's recovery time will be different. In my first week and can barely get through the exercises worksheet. They kept me overnight for observation before going home. Did not get any followon contact from anyone after.
I'm at 11 weeks post surgery this Monday. I still cannot put my socks on, much less tie my shoes. I had my left hip replacement surgery in Dumaguete, Philippines. My surgery was on Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning I was discharged and walked with a walker. About 2 weeks later I switched to a cane. The 1 week later I ditched the cane and now walk with a limp and pain. My replacement surgery came from a motorcycle accident so I wonder if that trama provided me with a different experience? I know the pain was incredible prior to surgery, and now a lot less and also the pain is more of a throb as opposed to jabbing. I was told not to swim because of the chances for infections so I haven't done that yet, but in two weeks I will ride my motorcycle again. Good luck

Obviously everyone recovers differently. I thank God I suffered little or no pain after surgery. I was doing stairs on the 3rd day. Walking with no stick after 8 days. All is good.

I was sent home the same day as my surgery. Things have progressed in 5 years. The level of rehab you had is definitely not covered by insurance in the US.

I’m waiting for a hip replacement. Been in pain since last year and have been told last week I’m on a waiting list which is approx 16 weeks. 15 weeks to go. I was also told just last week by the york orthopaedic surgeon that the York district hospital haven’t even opened their theatres to start these sort of operations yet. Only emergency ops. The back log must be horrendous. What are they waiting for.
i was told in december 21 that both my hips need changing and i am at stage 2 and in discomfort. just make sure the nhs are not just telling you what you want to hear as they may well be fibbing. good luck.

I had mine done in uk fantastic job had my hip done tea time on the wed got up to walk on Thursday if you can do the stairs on day3 you can go home. I went home after the 2 nights in 4 weeks went from 3 sticks to 1 recovery has been good scar heeled still got one scab. But I ever had any pain at all from the operation but my pain was horrific before
Hi Elaine. Good to hear you have no pain afterwards. I’m waiting for an operation for one hip and I didn’t think the pain would be this bad. Trying to get sleep is impossible, the pain gets worse lying down. There is hope !! Thankfully.
