The Band of Brothers was an HBO miniseries about the men of "Easy Company" 506th Battalion, 101st Airborne Corps, a U.S. Army Paratrooper division. It chronicled their experiences as they fight their way onto the beaches of German-held French territory and continues as they fight to bring freedom back to western europe.
"Before all this living history leaves us, let's see what there is to learn ... not about ancient times, but about human behavior, and how what they went through is reflected in how we live today."
Tom Hanks

My father told me about an Ensign he knew at the beginning of WWII with Japan. Apparently, he was a rotten jerk not liked by the enlisted ranks. My father ran into him at the end of the war at the Navy base, the guy was still an Ensign. My father told me all the low-ranking officers he knew at the beginning of the war had been promoted once or twice by the end, but not the jerk.
Back when discipline was strict.?
Discipline was much more hard in WW2, than now.
Saluting without a hat on!?! Whatever next!
Sobel was crazy but a great training officer.
Is this the guy who divorced for three times?
David Schwimmer needs to be in more military movies and series
He was world class trainer and if we take that ego off In this cituation...That was not only mistrust, he was competent.
This is one of my favorite lines in the entire series: "I'm not a Quaker".
Imagine on the other side of the world. German waffen SS is also training in the same way, may be in harsher conditions.. this ww2 was the testament that what ordinary men, men who are skilled in violence, who perfected violence can do in a battlefield
Ross: Oh the band's ready. Well, we we gotta do what the band says. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE STUPID BAND!
I have to admit, Sobel really prepared them for war.
Question, what is the name of the uniform Sobel was wearing in this scene? I never see that uniform anymore
Isn't a rusty bonnet better ? If the sharp doesn't get it, the infection will ?
80 years ago 2024... today its D Day + 1.... this always gets me.
Jacking up Picante about blousing his pants but Sobel is wearing a flight jacket?? Double-standard much?
"Do NOT help that man!" WTF kind of leader says something like that? The proper response by a motivated trooper would have been "FU Captain; he's my corpsbruder."
6/6/24 🫡 80 Years today, lest we forget
80 years.

*NO MORE PAIN, NO MORE CURHEE, NO MORE CAPTAIN SOBEL*
Sobel: Want to kill germans? Joseph: Yes sir! Sobel: Not with this! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry, but I can't take Ross seriously.
This is the moment Sobel knows for sure that he has weeded out all the weak links and that the men have bonded together. When they start singing without being ordered to. Sometimes when you are training people you need to tie them together against a common enemy. And you have to become that enemy. That's why they say command is a lonely job.
Anybody know the name of the song being used in this scene?
"do not help that man" - sobel "someone help that man, do not make him crawl" - mcknight, black hawk down
Wow they took a piece of shit juice and put him in a piece of shit role
Did I say juice outloud? Yes yes I did ... fuq the juice
Still waiting on the "Peace" part of this to kick in....
Notice on 2:12 he was going to ask why, then suddenly he changes with an insignificant question such as who's going to replace me. Little detail to show the lack of courage even in crucial situations
1:20 did easy company or anyone in the 101st ever use camouflage in combat?
1:43 inspiration as hell.
*sighs, goes for a run and re-watches Band of Brothers
The little nod from Soble, showing that he’s proud of Easy Company powering on through and not giving up.
The short and simple explanation of this scene is brilliantly done, Sink knew that Sobel was an officer who in peace time was a highly qualified trainer of soldiers, but as far as it came to leading men into battle, even in training exercises he was found to be utterly incompetent, Look at the scene in the training exercise, where Winters had the men set up perfectly to ambush the "enemy" soldiers and was lying in wait for them to come to him, Sobel got too jumpy and stupidly ignored the sensible actions of his subordinate, which ended getting almost all of his men killed by "enemy" and then the clincher was the embarrassing performance of Sobel in the exercises which took place in England, where again he showed his tactical incompetence, after that it's no wonder that after hearing about Winter's Court-Martial hearing and the thought of having to follow Sobel into combat in France that all of the Easy Company NCO's officially turned in their stripes rather than work for a man who they had zero faith in to lead them properly. That's why Sink reassigned Sobel away from a post commanding men going into battle, to an administrative position, look at what happened in the lead up to Operation Market Garden, what job did Sobel get? Company Supply Officer. Need I say more?
Let's do 4 months of Red Phase Basic Training, with an officer who fancies himself a drill Sgt... 😒
I’d bet money that the NCO giving the block of instruction is or was an actual NCO.
It may only be Army noodles and ketchup but I could still go for some right now.
See how Ross’s ancestors give him his beta traits
0:27 "Do not help that man". wtf what exactly is he teaching them by telling them that?
I don't know what will happen to the real Sobel but if this Sobel went to combat, Easy Company wouldn't last a single day on D-Day
Con mucha sabiduría y Diplomacia militar, trasladan al capitán a trabajos administrativos.
Maybe they we're on a Break 💔!!
One could argue that the lack of a salute to winters here gives the same instance at the end far more gravitas. It could also be argued that Sobel here was in actual shock as he was driven by.
makes no difference. remember your jobs. listen to him. not me not you or the guy down the street. ears down feet on the ground. good luck see you on the other side.
Beyond proud that my father served in the 82nd Airborne. He had one tattoo:”US Army Paratrooper.”
Why do I still hear audiences laughing everytime he curses 😂
While many could argue that Sobel in real life "made them"...there is a difference though between a man that can make you, and one that you would follow into battle. Sobel was a strict leader, and gave the discipline needed. But that same leadership is not one that inspires men to follow you into a battle. I will remember my basic training days to my grave, and the drill sergeants i had i can picture daily. They pushed, broke down, but also built up and taught. I have that photo of our company with the senior drill, and the two drill sergeants. I hope that each of them know they did an amazing job, Sobel was none of that kind of leadership.
Shot himself not long after the war ended.
As sadistic as Sobel is, he did teach Easy Company a very important lesson here: the Germans aren't going to be considerate and hold off an attack just because it's raining or they're having dinner.
If ever a soundtrack needed a "womp womp"
