@@engineeringtips8715 No pressure if you're done with the overlapping datum examples, but I'd be curious to see what considerations for the fitment of something like a sliding dovetail there might be.

@@tyzoid Interesting... Would you be interested in specifically the datum overlap, or more how sliding dovetails would interact? I'm trying to imaging how to make an instructive video for datum overlap with a dovetail and I'm coming up short

I suppose it makes you seem more legitimate if you want to go into the consulting or instructing business Not sure it guarantees a higher salary in any way though

Measurements are made from the actual mating envelope.... Not an arbitrary high or low contact area of an as-built surface.

Agreed, the point I was trying to demonstrate with the CAD was that a poorly set up measurement will have misleading results Of course it is obvious when the surface is this distorted, but I've seen poorly leveled parts get incorrectly flagged for being out of spec on the flatness
THIS RIGHT HERE IS IT! This was the last piece of the puzzle that i needed, your visual Representation was perfect! THANKS A LOTTTT!

Really useful one. Especially the way you illustrated it practically. Thanks 😊

Love your channel! It's so hard to find online resources teaching basic engineering skills like this in a way that's easy to understand and introduces you to what's important to think of. Also, love your doodles and style of illustration -- easily recognizable and intuitive throughout. Pleasantly surprised by how you covered fits in here, but I think it could definitely use a video on it own to slowly go through types of fits and when to use them.
