Travel with me and my friends to weird and historic places to witness first hand the amazing places history has forgotten in America.
Some travels will be very different, some exciting, some boring, but the nostalgia, for what we have have become as a nation, will stay. Come with us on these adventures and enjoy it through a different way of traveling.
I am in no way a historian, a lot of our adventures I am seeing for the first time and by a whim, I decide to set into motion a video.
Come with me, The Mad Nomadder, Gypsy Lynn and friends to venture into America.
We will go on adventures to roadside America, desert dwellings, National Parks, and State Parks. Anywhere that will let us film to bring the fun and excitement to you!
Videos are NOT created for KIDS on this Channel!

Great grandfather Walter Doty was assistant deputy warden for decades and his name is etched in the limestone at tour entrance. I have several pictures of him along with inmates taken inside the prison and with other staff members.
It was a nice tour and learned a lot while we were there. I was mostly interested in the Harry Powers portion since my grandmother lived next door to him in Quiet Dell back in the 1920's/30's. So growing up I would hear about the stories and knowing a little bit about that history of WV. Do you know if any pictures of your great grandfather is in the museum portion of the penitentiary? I sent the museum copies of pictures of some Harry Powers photos of the farm and such, but I have not been back to see if they used them.
@TheMadNomadder yes I last visited the pen in September of 2022. My aunt and uncle lived directly across the street from the visitors' entrance on Jefferson Avenue. Are family visits to Moundsville at least 4 times a year as a young boy and teenager were awesome. I bet I ran up the steps of the mound a thousand times as a young boy, and best of all was getting ice cream from Marshall Dairy store on the corner. It's funny that the local newspaper would print our visits in the paper....you see, we lived in Northern Virginia, and my mother worked at the Pentagon, so I guess it was a big deal for a small town like Moundsville. On my last visit to Moundsville, I took a "Woolrich" type shirt that famous serial murderer William "Holly" Griffith made for my dad back in the early 50s Holly ran the tailor shop in the prison and was so successful that he at one point was making uniforms for the WVa. State Police and prison staff. In fact, he was so successful at tailoring that he had at one point over $45,000 in his bank account. So, the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections decided to close down the tailor shop and wasn't too keen on inmates becoming wealthy while incarcerated. In the movie "Fools Parade," Jimmy Stewart's character was based on Holly Griffith, who escaped on numerous occasions and was responsible for murdering law enforcement during his capture. If you Google his name, you will see his complete biography. There is a picture of him standing on the front steps of the administration building holding his pet Jack Russell dog, and the man behind him is my great grandfather. I remember my grandmother telling me when she was a young girl that pop-pop would bring Holly home for lunch, and my great grandmother would freak out.... My great grandfather would just say..." Oh, he's ok... it's only when he breaks out that he's dangerous" I was lucky enough to have known him, and he passed away when I was 12. I took the shirt to the prison to donate it along with the original picture of him with Griffith on the front steps. Unfortunately, the person who manages the prison now was not working that day, so I was uncomfortable leaving the shirt and other items with them until I spoke to her. I finally contacted the staff supervisor, and they are excited to have these items and want to display them in the museum. I am going to visit again soon, and hopefully, one day, I'll see the items displayed in the museum.
That is fascinating. Loved hearing about this. Personally, I'm interested in crime history. We focus our vacations when we go to the old west trail. I try to focus on lawmen and the outlaws equally if we can. Going to Tombstone, AZ really made an impression on me. This year when we travel west, we are going to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. I was surprised to find so much in Arkansas. Fort Smith area has a Lawmen Museum and that will be an adventure to learn more about Judge Issac Parker and Bass Reeves. I got a video I have yet to release on Black Jack Ketchums grave and a little bit about the history and the town of Clayton, New Mexico. Hopefully when you return they will have the items displayed. I look forward going back (I want to go back to see the Mound, it was closed by the time we did our tour of the cemetery) and seeing the items as well.
The state fair is down the street. And.... near the movie theater, across the street is the College Inn bar. It's very western and actually once had a library for the kids at the entrance. I remember having a beer with a ranch hand and listening to his ranching stories about Lightning Creek. There is also an interesting pioneer museum at the state fairgrounds.
I'd like to go back one day. I loved the scenery around the route we took that year. We left Douglas and headed toward Lander. I can't recall, but I think the Pionner Museum was closed by the time we got to Douglas orit wasnt opened that day of week. Definitely would like to check that out. Thanks for watching!
Just found this. I’ve been there several times and been to the IMAX. Kool Aid exhibit is good 👍
I felt this was one of the best museums I have been to throughout the US.
Thanks for the feature!! It was great meeting you!!
It was a pleasure meeting you guys! Looking forward to more of your vids!
There is a demon who looks kind of like that with a huge mouth across the chest to swallow victims into hell
I wonder which demon that is.
@@TheMadNomadder I've only seen brief graphic images of them in other discovery channel and the KZread videos, kind of like a walking portal to hell entity creepy makes me want a light saber or a claymore change, I think you can Google the image
I will have to deep dive this a little more....I see one thing very similar the Blenmyae. I'm seeing stories about it. They are describing it a few different ways....seeing the picture on some sites looks similar to the Grafton Monster, but I'm also recalling seeing something similar on Monty Python flicks during their scene changes too.
Had a fun hot day. Great meeting the guys from Spirit Walk Paranormal. Glad I could play the part of the Grafton Monster lol.
Always great meeting new folks that share the same interests we do. Well you did great! Our new guests in the house will have many years of love.
Lots of fun stuff to look at.
It was a nice first time event. I'll drive back through there when the Monster museum opens.
Stayed there last week. 4th floor room. Lots of doors banging; heard children in hallway, when I looked in hall, no one was there. I felt the presence of spirits who have made the Elms their home (not joking at all). Pool has alot of stairs and outside pool was being worked on. Just FYI
This hotel was a pleasant surprise for us. We never heard of it until about 30 minutes before we got here. We definitely will go back one day. I can't wait to get back to Missouri so we can get more Shatto Milk. That had to be the best milk we've ever had. We got it at this hotel and I believe its only sold around stores in the western Missouri area. I'd love to go on the actual ghost tour they offer here the next time we go back. This hotel has a lot of history.
used to live around the corner from the elms but never stayed been wanting to lately tho
It was a nice place to stay. Were you impacted by the flood a few years ago? When we got back home I looked this place up and saw the entire area was flooded the year before we went.
Peaceful drive no stress. Those big were huge.
Yes those bigs were huge! In fact the bigs were ginormous! The Bigs were well big! LOL
@@TheMadNomadder Gotta love autocorrect
Pretty drive up to the visitor's center, maybe next time
Hopefully we'll be back here. I know we need to head that way soon :)
Very quick stop. Pretty sunset color though.
I didn't even know this was here, so wanted to stop before we made it to our hotel. We were coming from Clayton, NM to see Black Jack Ketchum's grave to Raton, NM. We never thought we would be in that section of New Mexico, so we didn't look anything up....now we want to go back one day.
Thanks for the video. I’d like to visit here some day. Also, it’s stalactites 😂 I couldn’t resist. I tell my students, “C for ceiling” “G for ground”. The stalactites have to hold on tight to the ceiling, and the stalagmites are mighty.
Very interesting history but be careful in that part of town. There's recently been street robberies in that park.
That's a shame. After I read your comment, I decided to check what the heck is going on around that neck of the woods. Robbing teens at gunpoint at or near the skate park. Then a report of shots being fired at kids at Rotary Park, which is a couple blocks away. Not sure whats wrong with people these days.
God's blessings to all Amen 🍀🙏😇😇🙏😇🙏
Thank you and God Bless you!
Researching visiting here in July, and this popped up. Mark yelled: look!!!
They close super early...so we didn't get a chance to explore....they were super nice to us and let us explore the "main" circle. Cripple Creek and the ghost towns of Victor and Goldfield took most of our time that day. We would like to go back someday and do it proper.
Yes, much of that out here, lol. Loved seeing another video by you. Have an awesome day!
Thanks! I'm hoping this weekend I get time to catch up on youtube. Very very hectic week.
Imagine the speeds you could achieve on that road...
You can make up some time on this stretch.
I was staying in Guymon a couple of weeks ago, amazed me to see several old houses stuck in time along the roads
I was nervous about this stretch of the road. Lady in Liberal Kansas told us the day or two before that a couple tractor trailers were blown and wrecked along this stretch due to the high winds. We didn't have any winds the day we went through it, so everything was calm. If we ever make it back that way, theres a few things in that area I'd like to try and see.
That is one of the tunnels where they lowered the floor back in the early 1960s so they could run trains with Hi-Cube boxcars and tri-level auto racks through. The last train to run the length of "The Branch" was back around Labor Day 1985. It was a "Rail Heritage Festival" excursion from Grafton to Parkersburg and return. The track had already been unused for about six weeks. I have heard many times that if Union Pacific ever takes over CSX, one of the first things they will do is put the disconnected and removed tracks back in service (including the "Parkersburg Branch") and restore the St. Louis - Baltimore main. One can hope this comes to pass.
We used to live by the track going through old Route 50 near Adamston....I didn't realize it has been that long since the train went through. If that is the plan to re-establish the rail system in that section....it has overgrown. Can't even walk on it. I think there is a homeless encampment after the train trestle after Adamston on the way to Wilsonburg....but not sure if that was a temporary thing or what the deal with that is. I would love for that train system to come back. Nearest one I have by me now would be along Route 20 toward Shinnston...not sure the path of that. I'm sure it probably goes out toward the Ohio River toward New Martinsville.
@@TheMadNomadder That's what they call "The Short Line" and it runs from Clarksburg to New Martinsville. That is how CSX gets to the Ohio River in northern WV.
The fudge was delicious. Love old stores like this.
Well if youre a good little girl, you may be going to another soon......
Trains are cool
Yes they are!

If I seen one that big I'd run

Creepy. Taking you didn't know this dude at all. Yep he flew you the bird.
If he wanted to be on the Mad Nomadder channel, he could have just asked lol
Wow dude that's a lot of points
Yeah it is. I dont even want to know how many hours.
All those bugs it must smell but it looks so inviting to swim. Not what I expected to see on the inside.
Maybe one day you could go there and swim and let me know how it goes

So good
Your face says it all haha
Yeah, I tried it lol
Ha ha your opening/ending song
It is what it is, made the most of it.
Nice store, lots of interesting things. That fudge looked good.
It was very good. Nice to stop back there after a dozen years or so.
The entire complex has experienced a rebuild and rebirth. Lots of stores, lots of restaurants. Several businesses in periphery buildings. All it took was a lot of money and a lot of vision. It is now called Middletown Commons.
I actually need to stop there since they remodeled. I will probably be surprised. I'm still used to it having Bee Gee's. Went there a lot when I was a kid....this whole area is building up, especially near Jerry Dove Drive.
I went there yesterday
Hope you enjoyed your visit.
This place looks right up my alley! Wicked cool!
It reminds me of a few places we have in our country roads we take in the Appalachians.
I like old stuff like this😂
Yes you do!! It reminds me of Cool Springs inside.
