  Do you realize how much extra cost to take panels off and reinstall when your roof needs repairs an they will at sometime. No savings money at all cost you more in the long run.

  You missed the most important reason you see panels in landscape rather than portrait orientation in cold climates: snow, as it melts from the top sliding down in portrait the hole panel will be shaded. In landscape, allows for bypass diodes to have 1/3, then 2/3 of the panel functional as it clears the rest of the snow.

  In Australia, a lot of our roofs are corrugated iron sheets. Where we can install the panels is dictated by the screw lines. Unless it is a large roof it is better to run the railing vertical and the panels horizontally which allows the panels to cover the whole roof surface. 5
