    Thank you, this video was super informative. For the standardised interview score, is it possible to receive multiple place offers from different unis? Or can you only get one place offer per round?

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is11 күн бұрын

    Glad it was helpful! If you’re applying to universities that operate through the GEMSAS system, you can only receive interviews/offers from one university - this will be the highest university on your preference list that grants you an offer. For e.g even if you theoretically are ‘accepted’ by universities ranked 2,4,5 and 7 on your preference list, you will only get an official offer from #2 and you will not have the ability to ‘choose’ from any of the universities below. Of course, when you apply to universities that are external to GEMSAS (USyd etc), you can get multiple interviews/offers from each university that you apply to. Hope this helps!

    Hey there, thanks for your question. The best advice I can give would be to check out the GEMSAS Guide. This outlines the admission requirements for each university and the bonuses they offer. Some universities will offer bonusus for PhDs or Masters qualifications but this varies extensively between each university. Regarding other exams - typically the GAMSAT is the primary exam for entry into graduate medicine but again, take a look at the GEMSAS guide, some universities may require the SJT (Situational Judgement Test) and they may also have specific English language requirements. Will try and put together a video for international students 🙏🏻 Hope you found this helpful!

    Just curious, in the first part of the video you said that if we took the September sitting you wouldn't be able to use it for the following year but the year after. Does this mean that if I sit the GAMSAT in September this year I won't be able to use my results in a 2025 application starting in 2026?

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is2 ай бұрын

    Fair question - to clarify: If you sit in September 2024, you will be able to use your score to apply in 2025, will the aim of starting medical school in 2026. What I was getting at in the video is that if you sit the GAMSAT in September, you are not able to then begin medical school the year after as the application period for the following year would have already closed and therefore your GAMSAT score cannot in that same year that you sat the exam. Hope this helps :)

    Glad I can help! I went to Deakin. Regarding rhetorical questions, I think it’s case dependent. They’re never really something Ive opted for in my writing. Great video! Just a quick question. How do you feel about introducing your contention in essays by saying “I believe that” because I felt like looking back at some of my essays it might a little hard to identify the contention without prefacing it like that

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is3 ай бұрын

    Thanks! I definitely think that this is a good way to make your contention clear for assessors. For sure this isn't the most organic way of weaving your contention into your introduction but bottom line - your assessor has to be able to clearly see what you're contending. I feel that it's more important that your contention is crystal clear than necessarily how you word it. Hope this helps!

    Appreciate it, thanks for watching! These are solid scores. I've harped on about how using quality examples and having solid structure are important. However, to take it to the next level, try to focus on how you analyse your ideas and your examples. Having good ideas helps, but try to be really clear and succinct. Be specific to the argument you are conveying in that body paragraph and ensure it is relevant to your contention. I think that this often separates the good from great essays! Obviously I've never read your essays but just general advice - hope this helps!

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is3 ай бұрын

    It can be tough but I think the best examples are ones that are relevant but also not totally generic. As Ive mentioned in a couple comments, have a look through the quote generator and common essay themes and try to research/brainstorm according to these themes. Themes often overlap and repeat themeselves and eventually you’ll have a good bank of examples to use. Examples also can come from weird and wonderful places - watch netflix docos and go on wikipedia - youll end up finding some cool examples and youre more likely to remember them as well. However, most importantly, a good example is one that is relevant, succinct and implented nicely into your essay. This will always trump how ‘out there’ and creative your example is.

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is3 ай бұрын

    As I've mentioned, I don't think there is any one best way to write an essay and I've seen a variety of essay styles score well. However, in my experience, I believe that Task A should be approached in a more analytical, discursive way whereas reflective writing is best kept for Task B.

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is3 ай бұрын

    Thanks mate. When I started my essay prep I had zero good examples, so it's definitely possible to build your way up! Examples can come from the most unexpected places. Scroll through documentaries on netflix and youtube - watching something often helps me remember details better. Dive into wikipedia. Check out Paging Dr - I vaguely remember there being a thread about different examples. Pull together a list of common Task A/B themes from the quote generator and go through them one-by-one then scour the internet and try to find a few relevant examples for each. Once you have developed a list, you can read through this list in your study time, although another great way to practice using them is by doing essay plans. This forces you try to think of arguments and examples on the spot. Again, use the quote generator and jot down a plan for an essay that you might write for a given quote set - then plan out the examples that you would use. This repetition helped to learning and apply examples. Hope this helps!

    I struggle with the analysis part. I feel I don’t do it enough when I write. Any tips for this? Also I’m always worried about not having a unique contention. Like is it still possible to still do well with a generic contention? Thank you this video though!!

  • @adam_is
    @adam_is3 ай бұрын

    Appreciate it and thanks for your question! Regarding analysis: I think this is an important part of your body paragraph but it doesn’t have to be longer than 2-3 sentences. Try to make sure it’s specific to your contention and to the argument you are making in that paragraph. Outline why the example you’ve used is important and why it’s relevant to your contention and to the society that we live in. This would be my main focus. When I’m writing my analysis and link, I often re-read my contention from the introduction just to make sure my analysis is targetted and relevant. Re: having a unique contention. I think this comes with time and repetition. Ultimately, I think that having good structure and strong arguments are more important than having an ‘intetesting’ or ‘unqiue’ idea. But if you want to work on idea generation then try using a quote generator online and practise essay plans. Try to think of contentions that have a bit more ‘flavour’ and arguments for your body paragraphs and jot it down in dot point form. This will get you into the mindset of finding different contentions. Ideas and themes also repeat themselves, so this activity will help you build a bank of contentions/examples. Hope this helps!

    @inishooper5508 I personally found S1 the most difficult to improve and my scores only slightly improved between my two attempts. However, my approach was similar to preparing for the other sections in that I would read about some of the question types in books and online, do prac questions and then prac exams. @@diegoalcosta4746 Thanks a lot! Section 3 can definitely be a bit tricky and it covers quite a few different topics. My advice would be to find a book/course or watch as many much online content as you can find on chemistry specific to the gamsat. You could also try to get a general understanding of basic chemistry by reading a bit about organic chemistry specifically - I think that might be the biggest barrier. As I mentioned in other videos, I used the Des O'Neil books back in my time, which had some great notes and prac exams (although may be a bit outdated now - would need to do some research). Otherwise, finding notes and practice questions would be the best way to go for Section 3 in my experience! Hope that helps :)

    Good question! @flyson01 You're right, the writing task doesn't have to be a traditional 'essay' and can take the form of another piece of writing. However, keep in mind that you will still need to explore the ideas and issues in the prompt, maintain good structure and be clear with your ideas. Often, the safest way to do this is with the traditional essay format - but if you're more comfortable writing in another way then that's fine too! I talk more about this in an upcoming video :)
