That's a bit of a tough call. SAI6 is a little less money and the reticle is simpler to use. PLxC reticle (FFP version) is polarizing. Some people love it. Some hate it. I am sorta in between. I figured out how to use PLxC Meters reticle somewhat effectively, but the other two did not work for me at all. With SAI6, I can get a simple FFP MRAD reticle that does not do anything exotic, but does everything I need. In the end, I use both. I have a PLxC with meters reticle and three SAI6 scopes (5.56 BDC reticle, MRAD with X-wing and simple MRAD). Both are pretty good optically, weigh within an ounce of each other and hold up mechanically.

I wish more brands made it to the North. Seems very overlooked considering we're mostly hunters and have land to shoot. I like some of Burris new options, especially the higher dollar options.

I remember reading on a blog somewhere, that Leica made the reticle to unobstruct bullet splash. Which is why they are so thin. Ive never used one so i cant say if its a good feature or not.

Hello. Love the info and knowledge you provide. I'm stuck in making my next purchase of an optic. Thinking about the Steiner T5XI series optic , but I've been noticing on reviews that they have focus issues on parallax . They have stated that they have been corrected. My other option is the Leupold Mark 4HD. I'll wait for feedback . Thanks
T5Xi had early issues, but they were resolved. SInce then, T5Xi has been replaced with T6Xi that is very good. With Mark 4HD, I have been playing with 2.5-10x42 and 4.5-18x52. I like both a fair bit, but it is too early to have any strong opinions.
How do you feel about this vs an acog ta01 or ta02?
That's a bit apples vs oranges. That having been said, I am not a major TA01/02 fan. Non-adjustable eyepiece becomes an issue as your get older. ACOG eyerelief give me trouble as well, as does the price. Element 5x30 does more for me.
@@DarkLordOfOptics besides the eye relief how well do they compare optically. I’m looking at this, the 4x32 acogs and the primary arms 5x micro. Not in love with the FOV on the PA but like the weight. Love that the Immersive has a great FOV just thinking about the weight and mounts. But it does weight the same as a TA02
@@FawkesRobert702 I think TA02 is a little lighter than Element once you take into account the mounts. Optically, they are relatively close. At distance extremes, Immersive is better since it has side focus.

Generally all the top end scopes are pretty good. Tangent probably has the edge as the air gets worse.

Great video. I currently run the 7075 monstrum mounts on my intermediates and have not found any issues with them, besides that they use the single clamping bar, but if I was bugged enough about it, I can just dremel it into 3rds lol. I don't run them on ARs with a detachable handguard, so the full contact forward of the mounting I view as a plus and not a negative. Decently thick top rings (~0.152") and no relief cut under the rings. The weights of them (1.5 and 1.1" height) are on par, if not better than the competition in that aspect, with the benefit of having torx screws and machined in lugs. No helicoils, but I haven't stripped out anything 7075-T6, so I don't view it as a concern. Had an Area419 one piece and just didn't see the cost justified in it for my usage and the cosmetic finish was surprisingly better (not like that really matters, but if I am dropping that much, it should have zero machining marks in the relief cuts). Used to run the burris pepr and the utg accusync, but that was specifically for the gap below the rings to fit around my forward mounted rear sight on my krink railed cover. I have a reptilia mount coming in an attempt to like it more than the monstrum, but we shall see. It just feels weird running such a low priced mount on a 10k+ rifle holding a march FX 1.5-15 DFP with a RH25 infront of it lol. Have you handled the 7075 monstrum pro mounts or have any thoughts on them for guns that don't have a potentially shifting handguard it cantilevers over?

What would make you choose the vortex over the Schmidt or vice versa.... I really want to try german glass. Currently running a atacr 7x35. Things I wish it had....turn indicators.....and I wish it didnt get a little dark at past 25. And I'm not going to lie the turrets of the Schmidt seem very well thought out to me...and im kinda biased towards them. I like the .05 click value....the variable feel of the click... and that it has turn indicators..... I also actually think my eyes like the grid 2 reticle. But the fact you just let me know tangent has liftime warranty makes me wonder if i could stomach that much......
I recommend the Tangent.

That's not really an apples to apples comparison. One is a fixed power scope. The other is a variable at double the price. Either way, BPR Mil is not a viable reticle design for my use. I had it int he 3-18x44 GLx for a while. I liked the scope, but the reticle absolutely did not work for me. The MilQuad and their new tree reticle work much better for my use.

For me the 5-25mk5 beats the gen2 razor. And the 7-35mk5 beats them both at 20x. On my 7-35mk5 at 20x i can read all the fine print on an electric box at about 100y vs almost with the mk5 5-25 and not at all with the gen2 razor both at max zoom. Is the gen3 significantly better than the gen2? Haven't done side by side but my brother had an atacr for a while and it was very nice but there are so many horror stories about nf warranty. So if i was going to upgrade it would have to be tt or zco
Gen3 is significantly better than Gen2 Razor or than Mk5. It is also better than the ATACR.
That zco looked beautiful i think that will be my next scope. Hows warranty? I also have to say the mk5 preformed pretty well considering its less than half the price of most of these! I was really surprised the TT looked like one of the worst looked dark and hazey compared to the zco looked like it worked as a high end camera lense
Do not judge image quality based on through the scope images. They are only here to show you what the reticle looks like.

How would this compare to the Vortex spitfire 5x prism optic? And witch one would be more durable?
They are very different. I have both here. Spitfire is compact and light. It works very well in a small package. Element is heavier with a larger prism and much larger FOV. In terms of image quality and flexibility of use, Element is a better scope, but there is a weight penalty for that. Both have their place. In terms of durability, it is hard to say. Both seem to be well built.

Have you done any videos or anything on the subject of optimal image quality for variable power optics? I keep hearing optics like the NF ATACR 7-35 have a power that they have the best image quality on, which is apparently 14 for that Nightforce 7-35. What is it for a Vortex 6-36 and is there a way to predict what power will be best image quality on a variable power optic?
Good question. It is different for different scopes and you usually can't predict it by looking at the specs. Some scopes are optimized on top power. Others are optimized somewhere in the middle. It really varies. With the 7-35 ATACR scopes I have seen, it seemed to be a little higher than 14x, but there is a possibility of variation there as well.

I have not spent a ton of time with it, but it looked like a very nice scope for the money. I have a lot more mileage with the 4.5-30x ETR and that one seems to hold up nicely.
I'm not sure how I feel about it for the $1k I paid new but I'd definitely pick up a refurb or used scope for $600 I've seen them at lately. It's better than my strike eagle by a bit, both at 18x, if that means anything.

I'm disappointed that the turrets for both windage and elevation are still extremely tall/long. Some of these fixed power scopes would be perfect companions to an offset or top mounted red dot. I've found the 35 degree offset dot in my Badger C1 mounts ideal, and I run them with both the Vortex Razor 1-6 and the Burris XTR 3 3-18 due to their low profile capped windage turrets that allow this. I don't think SWFA is aware of or thinking about this use case, but they could very well get a strong foothold on AR builds if they could adapt the fixed 10x or 6x models with a very short capped windage and a lower profile elevation turret. I know offsets can be mounted on the scope tube, but this introduces zeroing challenges and hold offsets that are mitigated by having the dot in line with the bore instead.
I have brought that up. Unfortunately, the way these fixed power scopes are designed, shorter turrets were not in the cards. They will have other models that work better with offset red dots.
Wow.....One of the few giving fixed power scopes (aside from lower power prisms) some press, and I came to the stream too late. Lol I'm not sure how I feel about the addition of a tree to the SWFA reticle, but it doesn't distract me when looking at the image. I do want to see what these would be like with the center dot illuminated, though. Would fiber or tritium be easier for a manufacturer to integrate?
Both can be tricky. Conventional etch and fill illumination would be easier.

I don't like stress risers but the SIG mount probably won't fracture before the top caps tear and either way your scope will probably break before the mount. The stress riser I have seen fail is in the top cap at the seat for the cap screw. If the seat is thin, torquing the ring can almost pull the seat out of the cap. If the cap screw seat is thick, I don't see much issue with the rest of the cap being thin. It will just conform to the scope tube. I got lucky and bought a few Leupold MkIV IMS mounts when they were discontinued and on clearance. They are two piece but it's a clamp piece and a double ring piece that bolts in to the clamp. Full price was near $300 I think but I got them for about $70. The machining is what i would expect on a $300 mount but they were not QD or one piece so I think they just didn't sell. I do like QD and I have a few. I have to say Bobro QD mounts are built like a tank but I prefer the KDG Sidelok which is built almost as well but has a nicer QD mechanism.
On thin top caps: if they are very stiff and properly round, there is no problem. If they were super flexible (almost like metal tape), they would simply conform to the shape of the tube and it could be made to work without any issues. The problem is that they tend to be in between. When you tighten the ring caps, depending on which scope it is, there is deformation in the ring half AND in the scope tube. Some scopes are not impacted by this and some are. It is hard to know if it is a problem with your specific scopes, so it is best to avoid such a situation. With QD mounts, the basic problem is that virtually all of them (or at least all that I have seen) their either do not come back to zero very well or they do not retain zero after side impact. Bobro returns to zero well, but shifts zero when impacted. With Sidelok, I have only played with one and it neither returned to zero after re-mounting nor retained zero after side impact. That was especially disappointing because of how slick Sidelok is in terms of packaging. To be fair, it was a sample of one and I have not had time to look into it more carefully. To me, QD mounts are there for convenience when you have an application where you are comfortable sacrificing performance.
@@DarkLordOfOptics whenever possible, I ream my scope rings to attempt to create that nearly perfect 360° ring contact. Usually the bottom half is so rigid (and a bit oversized) that only the bottom of the ring half gets cut away unless you are willing to spend a lot of time on the reaming. The thinner top halves have a more even material removal because they wrap around the reamer like that metal tape example. Reaming does not create a perfectly round mating surface like you would hope but if the top flexes as much as it does during the reaming process, you are going to get nearly 180° contact on the top ring half and at least 90° of contact on the bottom ring half. The two spots that don't contact probably aren't enough to deform a properly designed scope tube if the rings are torqued properly. Or at least that's what I tell myself because I've never had a problem holding zero or operating a scope with budget rings after they are reamed in place. I also like to replace the metric cap screws with inch after I drill out and helicoil the threads in the bottom caps. That leaves the screw head seat in the top cap as the last weak spot in a budget ring. I like to give that treatment to something like a $28 pair of Vortex "tactical" rings. Definitely Chinese or some other low cost nation but not as sleazy as VISM or NCStar. A little bit of time and a few dollars worth of thread inserts and new screws probably makes them better than a $60 set of rings...

The takeaway for me is that there are deficiencies in the design of some of the budget scope mounts and the higher priced scope mounts (>$300) appear to be better designed. The ones mention were: Area 419 Tactical One-Piece Scope Mount Reptilia AUS™ MOUNT Badgerordnance Condition One Max Mount Which is disconcerting because I though that I had heard it mentioned on a previous livestream that if you are paying more than 200 dollars for a mount it's more hype than performance. So does a quality budget scope mount exist? If so which one is it?
It is disconcerting indeed. Back when I originally talked about (admittedly a while back). If you wanted a mount with a lot of well thought out accessories for mounting red dots, etc it was expensive. However, if you just wanted a well made one piece mount, you could pick up Badger Unimount and generally be OK. That seems to have been discontinued since then (I have not confirmed it with Badger, but a couple of people mentioned that and availability is dwindling down to whatever is in stock). alnk.to/bEhYVBb and alnk.to/6bUuwkx Since then, I have been trying to find something under $200 that would be good. Seekins MXM is quite good alnk.to/eZGnz2Y but over $200. Seekins also makes Vortex Precision mount alnk.to/gzVcoq1 and for that there is also a diving board accessory. There are a few that look promising that I need to spend some time with: Eratac superlight, Steiner T-series, etc. The ultimate find would be something the price of the Daniel Defense (~$150) that is just a simple well designed and well made one piece mount.
To add: a lot of the mounts that I see in the $200 and under price range seem to be "not serious". They insist on attracting the attention of people who shop based on looks: QD levers all over the place, random skeletonization, vertical flexy rings, etc. What I am looking for is something that works, but it might not looks flashy. For sales, looking flashy probably sells better.
