I had 3-4 hours total, this past week to learn, practise and record. I do not enjoy not being able to play and, at least for me, lack of practise affects the performance. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, as did I. Initially, when listening to the song, I thought it would be easy, but there are a couple of tricky parts in it. I read somewhere that Benton used a BC Rich bass with a single EMG P pickup when recording "Serpents...". So I thought it would be fitting for my parts bass (with the same pickup in the middle) to make its debut. The shout out is only just, brother!!! Cheers!!! 👊👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🍻🍻🍻🍻

I wasn't really familiar with the song either - a guitarist on instagram suggested this, when I offered to do a collab. Really? I know every nook and crany of this song and album 😅. I think it can be an advantage to learn something from scratch because your style and approach can bleed through more, which yours does. There's an Ackercocke song I'm learning which has a section thats a a Bastard to execute accurately. Probably because I'm so stubborn and won't deviate from the tuning of A, to my detriment 😅. Great to see you smashing these out Brother!
@morbidalex66621 күн бұрын
@@rainbowsludge660 In my opinion, when it comes to music, it's no use if the artist is not allowed to put his own personality in the music, cover or not. Plus, I am incapable of playing any other way😁😁. Which Ackercocke song?! Yeah, switching tuning on bass is a pain, if you are picky with your action that is. I wonder if you can change tuning on one of those graphite necked ones and not having to adjust the truss rod... I'd like to do some black metal, but I have hard time finding something exciting bass-wise. Hey man, shoot me a suggestion (black metal or not, no matter)!! The least I can promise is that I'll give it a try!
@rainbowsludge66020 күн бұрын
@@morbidalex666 Yes, and I think it's especially important to have forged your own style and bleed it into the music when doing covers. The Ackercocke song is Summon the Antichrist. I dislike any alteration in string tension/action, hence I stick with A turning since that seems to be lower enough to deal with most bands I cover and the tension is preferred on 125/130's strings with a lower action. Well this has made my day! I could throw so much at you that I cannot play but want to, that you'd just smash out with precision execution; Deicide "Serpents of the Light" for one. Maybe some Hate Eternal "From Desolate Sands". Possibly Deathspell Omega. Now that could be very challenging to work out since we are utterly insane but amazing nonetheless. I actually spoke to a friend tonight who loves them and asked if any songs would be good for you to cover and he made a few suggestions (I'll send them in a another message?). Also, how about Mayhem? Their latest album is so good. Ive thought of covering the second track but not 100% sure yet. But I wouldn't expect you to cover anything that didn't resonate with you so I understand if these choices don't work.

Monumental! You do this song more than justice. Its kind of sureal and an absolute pleasure to see your own style of playing execute Deathspell. I was so pleased and surprised to see you'd completed this. You just semed to have hammered this piece out of nowhere too! 😂 Thank you for the shout out man!!!! Greatly appreciated 👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊
You're too nice, brother! I did want to play some black metal and with this song, it was love at first listen! 🤣🤣 Thanks for the suggestion, I really enjoyed doing this! Let me know what your friend thinks about it too!! No need to thank, man! It feels right, so I do it!

Great album
Yes, it is!
It sure is! I'm glad it was suggested to me!! 🤘🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
From now on I show this to everybody who says that bass is useless and more easy to play. They get astonished.
Thanks, I appreciate your comment very much!! But there are guys out there that run circles around me. Like this guy here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYSqqaynj7CwmKQ.html
great job but for me i cant stand this album - the guitar tone is so fucking awefull
I agree. I find it sad that bad production can affect peoples opinions on the music itself. I include myself in this category, since the guitar sound kept me from really listening to this album for years. Thanks for the comment!! 🍻🍻🍻🤘🤘
Oh boy let me tell you about Morbid Angel's Heretic
Ha ha ha!! I bought that album as soon as it was out! Even got to see them live when promoting it!! Yes, the guitar on that one is odd - I found it cool at the time, because it had character. But then it got old 😅 The previous album "Gateways...." sounds absolutely huge! I wonder if it was a budget issue (final album on Earache)...
@@morbidalex666 I feel like Trey was probably all fucked up on whatever the hell he was doing, be it alcohol or psychedelics or stimulants. He made a choice to really make his guitar tone sound nothing like it had ever sounded before and we're all stuck with it🤣
@@philcollinshill2951 He may well have done all the above and still manage to write some really nice riffs, only to be ruined by this production... Anyway, these original guys will always have my respect for the music they created and I hold so dear to my heart 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Watching this has just brought a huge smile to my face! I've been looking forward to this one! Such a deranged melody and played with a beautiful bass tone. You made this look easy but I know for a fact it ain't. And thank you for the shout out brother! 👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊
Cheers!!! 👊👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🍻🍻🍻🍻
@@morbidalex666 That is an achievement. I would severely struggle to complete the whole process in that short space. It's often the ones I predict will be easy that end up proving to have a challenging section that stops me in my tracks. Yeah, I don't like missing practice because before I know it I'm having to climb up Bass Mountian - particularly affects my speed (or lack of 😅). Thoroughly enjoyed this bother!!!!!!! 👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊
@@rainbowsludge660 Also, thank you for the suggestion. Small challenges like that give focus and purpose! Bass Mountain LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I know what you mean man! Have a great one!

Fkin awesome!
F'n jolt of adrenaline! That's for sure!
Excellent 🔥🔥
Yeah man! Now all I have to do is practice more and play as clean as you! 👊🤘🤘
Crushing! If there was one song I'd like to hear you play, it would probably be this one, and let me tell you, this was very satisfying to watch and hear!! And that Bass lick 😂. Absolutely nailed it man!! 👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊
Thanks brother! It gave me a hard time, believe it or not. That bass lick kinda sounded like gibberish, when I was practising it (not much better on the video... ahem..). Too much adrenaline for the first half, then pause for an arpeggio-like lick and then back to freakin' battering! I wasn't really familiar with the song either - a guitarist on instagram suggested this, when I offered to do a collab. I like the physicality playing stuff like this - like, it's physically challenging (especially when I want to play my way, not very subtly), but also a rush!! So glad you liked it - such a moral boost!! I needed this man! 🙏🙏🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻👊👊👊
@@morbidalex666 Deathspell Omega he recommended was music from the albums "The Furnaces" and "Paracletus". He also mentioned this band "Furia - Kysiezyc Milczy Luty (never heard of this - he likes the most obscure extreme music 😅). He said they have very interesting riffs, dynamics and song structures throughout.
huge
That's what she said! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry, I couldn't help myself!! But yeah man, greatly appreciated!
Eric Langlois was the original bass player for Cryptopsy, who brought all the funk elements into Death Metal and made Cryptopsy so well-known in the mid 90s. I remembered Eric along with Alex Webster, Derek Boyer...etc were a few exceptional ones that we discussed a lot back then. And, Oliver is a great one too.
Thanks for the little history lesson, honestly. I wasn't even into metal at that time - I was listening to bands like Deep Purple and Gary Moore back then. So yeah, thanks man! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🍻🍻🍻🍻 I couldn't really find much online about the gear used by Eric Langlois at the time (I did find the Carvin LB75 though). So, if you have any info on that, I'd be very interested to know!

The new Deicide album is pretty exciting!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘 These guys have energy to spare!
i was a little dissapointed when they didnt keep the bass heavy sound of the last album - but this album is pritty good
I need to spend more time with it definitely! I think the sound is supposed to be reminiscent of the legion/once upon the cross era. 🤘🤘🤘
Yes man!!!! I've actually not heard this new album but what better way to make its aquitainance than with this perfectly executed hammering. Can feel the extra force going through those strings which more than match Bentons picking. Brought out the old 5 string for this one eh? It's nice, and serves the song well. And a massive thank you for you recommendation I the description. It's an honour for a bass player of your calibre to mention the likes of me. Crushing work once again! 👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊
Thanks man! Giving you a shout out is the least I can do for you, honestly! So yeah, I busted out the old btb for this one. I have kind of love/hate relationship with this bass. It doesn't play as smoothly as my Spectors or Corts. But the aggression in the midrange that it has, is something special. It is also so dynamic, that it shows mistakes very easy 😅😅😅 Also, it doesnt matter how many string you'got. With Deicide, you only need 2. The rest is up to the old mits.😂
Блин, очень офигенно!
Glen Benton gets so much shit for his playing, but his basslines are brutal and solid. And he's been doing awesome playing live too, at least during the last 10 years!!!
Great sound ! Being also bass player, i can say this an Huge cover 🤘!!!
Glad you liked it!! Now all I have to do is learn to slap like you and somehow incorporate that technique into death metal😅 🤘🤘🤘
I think this is my favorite track on the album. They played it on one of their home videos back in the day and the first time I watched it I was baked on my friends couch and the ending way harder than I could process lol.
That and Perverse Suffering are highlights to me too!! I saw that vid you mention for the first time in a DVD box-set they released at about 2004-5. It was bloody terrifying!!! They looked like they rip your head off and play football with it! Even Alex Webster LOL!!!
