Loved the video, really wet my appetite for a trip to Berwyn or the Pools. You were close with the moss, but it’s common haircap, Polytrichum commune. It likes wetter areas and grows bigger. Bank haircap tends to be on shaded banks and deciduous woodlands.

Never had snap offs on dries, but with wet flies frequently so ive stopped using this method......i even used a soft vision hero nymph rod in 3 weight last time, and still got snapped off! Nothing wrong with my knots and using 4 pound line. They just seem to snatch at it ferociously.

Hi Carl, yes, comes with the territory I think - guess we should be fishing wets upstream, or square at worst to increase hookups and avoid snap offs.

I've also had a problem with snap-offs when dry fly-fishing the Usk. I might scale up from 5X to 4X tippet.....but first will try a longer rod to cushion the take a bit more. I've been using a 7ft 6 #3, but might try my 10ft #3 instead.

Hi Ben, yes, there certainly seems to be a trend towards lighter, longer rods. Personally, I use a 9ft 5wt for dries, but can appreciate the benefits of a longer rod. I use a 10ft 3wt for nymphing, which can be used for dries in the right conditions. It’s all personal preference!

Definitely Lyn. The last part of the video was very exciting. I was out the next day, the fish you spooked above flatfish pool was the in the spot I caught a 18 inch fish.
