I start to feel the advantages of studying pentatonics and chords in all its forms. It helps a lot to understand what you are playing. Especially when you play fast notes. Instead of trying to hear and seperate every single note, I can hear, seperate and reproduce larger soundforms. These play alongs are really great to challenge and test myself. But also as a warm up exercice it's nice. Suitable for many purposes. Thank you!
I'e never seen the cello played like this! Love it!
Awesome
How can you do those ornaments or jazzy feeling!
just what I've been looking for! great teaching style and perfect level for me.
I stared playing violin on Christmas last year. It has now set unused for 2 months. No one around here to teach me and I got bored with everyone doing things different on YT. I guess I’ll try again after the summer.
I love these weird kind of exercises. This one I would call: follow the bouncing soundball. It helps me to locate the sounds in space. As if each note is a 3D object in space. A bouncing ball going in all directions. And it helps to train the force of attention. Audio-fitness-yoga-pingpong. Thank you!
Made it to the end...and as with most of your video's, I discovered new things. When you say: write it down (if you can), then I can recommend everyone to do so. It really helps to see things more clearly. It's really fun to play with al those different scales, and find and play with the common ground and the differences. Thanks again!

@@ChristianHowesViolin what's the difference between getting member of strings academy and getting member via youtube?
thanks for this, I put fiddle tunes on my channel, I'm in UK, England. Love Love
Great Job! I love your clear explanation and that sound!! Could you please do a tutorial of "The waves of Bondi" of The Bushwackers. Thank you.
Classical music is ossified and stripped of its spirit and joy. Listen to Gershwin play Gershwin!
Great
Excellent lesson on intonation! You’re generous to share with us. Thank you Christian!
I'm glad it helped you.
I am lucky to find you
I did vibrato for the first time doing this exercise. Thank you!
Great job!
Thank you so much for all this. I missed your camp this year due to family financial matters but I absolutely will be there next year. Thank you for sharing this wonderful work and for all your ear training and improv videos

so simple. yet so hard!
Thanks i needed that!
This is a good exercise, thank you for explaining, I feel understood
Glad it was helpful!
This is fantastic, both for me (over twenty years playing) and my daughter (less than a year). One of my challenges when playing live is relaxing and not stressing about it (which makes any problems snowball).
Got it thank you. Look for my “relaxing play along” videos they will help you relax when you play.
Puqui here. Nice to see you at camp. Congratulations to your son on a wonderful performance. (My 13 year old was inspired to learn more fiddling. She was wanting to learn the Swallowtail fiddle tune.) Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
Hi Puqui! So great to meet you. Ok what is the name of the tune your daughter wants to learn and do you know the key she wants it in? And what’s her name?
@@ChristianHowesViolinhi there! Her name is Evelyn. She into Irish fiddling tunes. She doesn’t know Irish Washerwoman. I don’t know what key, I would guess d-major would work. Thank you!
Wow. very very helpful exercise. Question then is why do (even pro)violinist go out of tune. And while playing u dont realize until u listen back to a recording, just how some notes were out of tune.
The more you listen back to recordings, the more you will hear your intonation as it is when playing.
😍😍😍😍Thank You!
First time I seen it in a bad situation. This oughtabe good..
I just discovered you this morning but am going to be following your work. Thanks! John

Great solo idea! Thanks very much ~
Glad you like it!
ok
I like it..thanks..for your time
My pleasure
I would love to improvise fast lines like you do, but I don't understand what is behind it and how can I build this ability. Any tips?
Hi Lais- yes- there are a few ways I can help you with this. 1) practicing simple patterns out of the major scale and perhaps the same w pentatonic. 2) then combining 4-note cells to play longer lines. There are several ways I help people w this. I suggest to start a thread in the members FB group w me, and or bring this up at our next zoom class so I can work w you individually.
@@ChristianHowesViolin alright, it seems a good way to start, very accessible. Thank you!
Just subed
This is a wonderful tutorial, thank you so so much ❤
Glad it was helpful!
nicy nice, but way too quick for me :( has anybody transcriped some parts?
Thank-you, excellent video!!! I just discovered you last w/e (searching for blues fiddle)!!! So, this summer, I'm aiming to get through your blues and bluegrass videos, then after Labor Day, your on line class and then next summer, your July Creative Strings Workshop. I'm 2.5 years into the fiddle, mostly bluegrass (prior wind player). I love your style! 😃🎻
Welcome aboard!
That was great to see, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Probably your best video of the style of play that is most ideal and motivating to me. Please come visit the Eastman School!
To teach at Eastman? Sure. Someone needs to invite me. Or you could join my studio.
I had an identical interaction with an 8 year old girl who had 'ADHD', what i now describe as Explosive HyperFocus. She was unable to keep her hand flopped for more than 2-3 seconds, when i gently put my fingers round her wrist (like barely touching) to help her with a tactile reminder, she described the sensation of keeping her hand relaxed as 'painful'. Great video - but its not just 'Adult hands' that are stubborn. Some Neurotypes will find this very hard, and developing the skill of motor regulation and relaxation is super valuable to them.
