Avion Overlander

Avion Overlander

Avion Overlander deals with all things involved with traveling the USA and Canada. We travel in our 1984 Avion 30R travel trailer with our cat (Yellow Cat). We are avid birders. We are also very DIY so our videos show what everyone can do if they wish.

    Wonderful video! Just to let you know Atlantic Salmon do not automatically die after spawning like their Pacific Salmon cousins. Atlantics can leave the river and return as many times as they are strong enough to do so. All 5 species of Pacific Salmon do die after spawning. We will hopefully be camping and fishing there next year.

    Hello, We're going there this June 14, do you think that we'll be able to see icebergs from the shore ? Going to visit the lighthouse and hike at the cove. Maybe go on a boat tour. thank you.

    We were much later then your date. So, yes you may see more than one. We saw the one at Twillingate and another one at Goose Cove later. The iceberg at Goose Cove was very large and moving thru the ocean whereas the floundering iceberg at Twillingate was trapped to the bottom.

    So you didn’t mount the indoor unit very high if it’s just above window. Has that worked alright?

  • @russedgar
    @russedgar9 ай бұрын

    The indoor unit is as high as we could install it in the front. You can not see them, but we actually drilled holes with a hole saw in the bottom of the overhead cabinet to possibly help with air circulation. But we have had no problems and the holes were a waste of time and effort. The mini-split works great on 120 and solar/inverter.

    @@russedgar interesting you’ve changed my thoughts on wall unit. Their installation instructions say it has to be higher. I was looking at floor unit for that reason but this is much better as all floor units were 240v.

  • @russedgar
    @russedgar9 ай бұрын

    This unit is 120volts. It works great. We can run it on solar for most of one day but do not. It is easier to run on our Honda 2000.@@windeagle53

    Very nice review of the campground and area. At the John Cabot campground, what cell service carrier did you use that worked. We are from Texas and have Verizon. I wonder if it will work?

  • @russedgar
    @russedgar10 ай бұрын

    Verizon worked fine in all of Canada, if there was a tower. AT&T did not work anywhere in Canada, but is great after we crossed the border into the US.

    Any concerns about sturdiness of the Avion frame for this use? I would love to add a bike rack to the back of our Avion, but have been nervous about the weight. Our rack and e-bikes would add 162 lbs to the rear. Right now we load them into the back of our truck which is a lot of lifting.

  • @russedgar

    I have only two road bikes, bike rack, and hitch. I was concerned until I met an Airstreamer with such a setup but with one e-bike, one road bike, and one child's bike I am sure the 1984 Avion frame is more robust than the Airstream. If I could carry them in the back of the truck, I would and use an aluminum ramp if they were too heavy.

    Hiya, it's nice to see people helping people. One comment I would like to add is, you should not rest your controller boards on metal surfaces......you could short it out, leading to a damaged unit, or possibly a fire. get a piece of 2 sided foam tape and tape it to somewhere rain won't get to it. rain does get in that upper roof vent, not direct, but splashing type effect, so just be aware that this splashing may affect your fans as well. Otherwise, that is an awesome addition to your absorbtion fridge! thanks for sharing.
