    Great place for a sunrise, usually gets super colorful even through the clouds. That's funny you are there, that place has a special significance for me, being my first stop in over 100 in 30 or so countries living and working as a digital nomad way back in Sept 2018. 😊 Cool to see again, I haven't been back.

    I stayed there for a month during Covid at Thongtakian resort. When the tide is high it is a lovely beach for snorkeling. Lamai looked very deserted and quiet those days. Chaweng Noi is the best.

    I'm sure I write too much and on holidays it's better to switch off the brain :D but in case you have some moments of boredom under the palm trees, here's my 2 cents on the ins and outs of nationalities at tourist areas. This is mostly based on advertising and tour operator economies of scale, only partly geographical distance of origin. Asia is a popular destination for all first world countries (so both US/CA/AU as well as Europe), which is why you see all types of people in Indonesia and Thailand's popular beach resort areas. But as soon as you have a very popular spot with mass tourism (like Koh Samui), there will be some concentration of nationalities, mostly in the party areas. Bali will have a lot of Australians as for them it's the closest Asian destination (and perfect surf), but you have all nationalities mixed there, all over the place. Have you been to Europe before, on the seaside? What you will see there is that whole resort areas are purely one or two nationalities: Brits, Germans, Russians, etc. Same for the spanish islands like Mallorca or Ibiza, where you see masses of Brits especially or German areas. When I visited Greece for the first time, the resort we stayed at were mostly for Central Europeans, even the food signs wrote the menu in their respective languages. The reason is that tour operators bring people by the planeloads. It makes for more profit to arrange and the locals adjust quickly by using their language, so it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy: why would Dutch want to go out in Egypt where some locals cater to Russians? :) I would be curious to see whether on Koh Samui there are any other languages than English used by hotels and restaurants, though I suspect that since it's Asia, there is not that strong of a catering yet for many nationalities. The menus say it all: the more languages, the more nationalities visit the place.

    I'm sure much has changed all over the island in 20 years but I remember we found a totally secluded and clean beach in the north of the island. My girlfriend and I didn't like the crowds and that was real relaxation for us vs the crowds of Chaweng.

    Thanks for your comparison. I am still using and love my FDR-X3000. There was a gimbal for this tiny action cam a few years ago. However, the maker discontinued the product, and finding the gimbal for the X3000 is difficult. Recently, I found a nice combination of a DJI om 5 gimbal (for my iPhone) and a cell phone adapter for the gimbal to mount my X3000. It works perfectly for me.

    food cost is cheap if you are willing to accept local grocery. I know MANY so called EXPATS who cant accept local food at any level and will only buy stuff from expensive import grocery shops at SOGO or TAKA... lol if i be like that i just go to costco..thats actually cheap. nothing like freaking good large pizza (oversized) for $300 ntd. anyway good channel and subbed.

    hi, was wonderign if you know where I can rent a high end bike suitable for the Taiwan KOM - tryign to work out whether i should bring my own bike or rent something.

  • @LedZippo99
    @LedZippo9922 күн бұрын

    good question... I ran into a guy a few years back while biking in the mountains... he was able to rent a Giant TCR with Shimano 105, basic wheels... for about 15usd/day... so yes it is possible ... If you are serious about it I could look into it ... If you are doing the KOM you'll likely want something a little better (aka, light wheels)... pretty confident you can.. when is it? Also, how tall are you (sizing), crank length, etc...

  • @LedZippo99

    Also... get low gearing! I personally run a 52/34 front Dura Ace, and an 11-36 Sram cassette ... it actually works and is nice to have... you'll need it... I have all the tools you'll need if you want to adjust stuff, let me know how I can help...
