The hype that I had back in those days for the premier of this film after watching the trailer are still unmatched by anything else. This was, perhaps, the film for which I was the most excited for ever. Went to the premier in May 2007, I was just 9 years old at the time, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The 2000’s were my decade, and 2007 was one of the best years ever. God, I really miss the good old days.

Back when writers and media creators actually cared about what they were making. I think Hollywood declined because of higher education and uninspired teens with liberal arts degrees tbh

I think that Barbossa's maniacal laughter from the trailer would have fitted well with the final film

Them not using a variant or didn't create a variant of Hoist The Colours for the trailer was a missed opportunity in my opinion. It would of fit much better for the movie than this music that has nothing to do with the movie. The music they used sounds good with how they edited the trailer, but it's still a missed opportunity to not use actual POTC music for the best movie in the series

I turned 10 years old in 2007. To those of you who may not remember, let me give you some context to this trailer, which itself is a cinematic masterpiece. The last we saw, our heroic captain was eaten alive by the Kraken, his beloved Pearl dragged to the depths, and Cutler Beckett was in possession of Davy Jones' heart. For fans, these were dark and uncertain times. Then this trailer drops, which opens with a twofold promise: The junk boat, canonically an unprecedented style of vessel, indicates this will be *unlike anything we've ever seen* ; and the shot of a certain dead man's compass undeniably portends his very return, compounded by Tia Dalma's closing monologue from DMC, her steeling question to the audience of our worthiness to the mission before us. As she readies us for the journey ahead, we are shown, as Alice from 'Wonderland' calls them, "Impossible Things". An inverted ship underwater, the very edge of the world, and the purgatory where we find Jack. (We've seen undead pirates since Elizabeth escaped to the moonlight deck of the Pearl in CotBP... but to venture beyond the veil of life itself?) -Then, of course, Jack with the sarcastic sentimental disappointment that he was resurrected, not just because he's a beloved character, but for everyone else's ends. What are these ends? What have we been called upon to accomplish?? Only a captain who knows these waters can answer such a question, "Our time is coming to an end." Even at 10, the existential dread was palpable. "Why should I sail with any of you?", Jack asks. No one trusts anyone, even Will and Elizabeth have doubts. "Our enemies have united," continues Barbossa, "and vowed to destroy us." They have a common goal to exterminate pirates, and with frayed alliances, their only hope is to band with all pirates from across the map. ("That's a sad commentary in and of itself.") As we see these pirates, much like the junk boat, we are given a glimpse of the global scope of this dreadful concern. Again, we are promised something we've never seen or imagined, "There's not been a gathering like this in our lifetime." -as if Barbossa knows theatergoers would unite in unwavering support of the fight to be had. Cue Beckett, aware that now the stalwart audience knows we face extinction. "All that remains is for them to make their final stand." If we weren't with Jack and Hector before, now we were sworn crewmembers. Another montage of Impossible things. Sailing into the abyss -"ARE YE MAD?!", the battle across the watery void, The Black Pearl surfing a dune, a ship plummeting over the waterfall at world's end, a world map of concentric revolving rings, Will's mid-battle proposal to Elizabeth... and oh my god, the blood-raising yardarm swashbuckling between Jones and Sparrow who has the chest in his (upper) hand?? With Captain Jack's conviction that we couldn't make this mad mission work without his clever antics and blowing smoke from his iconic pistol, the shot of which we know he saves only for worthy and just execution, the trailer ends assuring us of our victory without us even knowing. In 2007, we were so ready, and yet so unprepared for the end.

Makes me think that PotC 3 is more of a war film because; 1. Lord Cutler Beckett wages war against piracy, and the pirates gather together to declare war against him and Davy Jones, which Beckett commands. 2. Reminds me of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and if I think that Vladimir Putin also starts the military operations on the Nato, then it will be the World War III between Russia and the NATO, but I don't think that Putin is crazy enough to cause the World War III. That's just my opinion based on my thoughts.

Jack: "Did no one come to save me just because they missed me?" *(No one except the Monkey raises their hands, leaving Jack with a "Oh, come on!" look on his face)* Seriously, looking back on this, am I still the only one who laughs at that bit in the trailer?

Disney is all about making their name/brand synonymous with certain genres, one by one, by making high quality entertainment at the start. But once they've done that and stamped their Disney name into that genre/demographic and gained the attention of the masses, they produce nothing but crap afterwards. These first 3 Pirates films were the First and Last amazing Original high quality live action movies that Disney's made that were not reboots or remakes.. and LITERALLY b/c of Johnny Depp, it cemented Disney as a credible and highly profitable live action production company that broke box office records. This was the transition Disney needed after monopolizing kids entertainment and animated movies. Fast forward to now, they bought MCU which means Phase 4 and everything after is going to be shit b/c there's a trend of Disney milking everything for all it's worth until they completely destroy the franchise like they did with Star Wars and this Pirates franchise

I noticed that myself but as someone who would've seen this movie in theatres that wasn't an obvious "spoil" per se since if you had watched the trailer you had no context for it. It was only after seeing the movie would that small little giveaway make sense. It works becos the trailer "undersells" that plot twist and hides it for keen viewers to pick up on later when they see the trailer again.
