Logically you’re trying to rationalize the reason for this pain, it’s a disappointment in yourself because you know better but you’ve done the opposite. So now you’re burden in guilt and shame you’ve done so much healing work.

I started listening to Brett Dennen when i was in high school, 2004/2005. Since then I've kind of fallen away from, and reconnected to his music many times. It has probably been a couple years since i last listened to him. But today out of seemingly nowhere i found myself singing "aint no reason", which led me to spotify, and this song. Its like it found me at exactly the right moment. At a time when i am going through a bit of spiritual cleansing. I lost my dad in 2010 and my brother in 2016. And i feel like i have been stuck since my brother died. He was a couple years older, my only sibling, the world just doesnt make sense since he has been gone. And in many ways it's like i have been mentally stuck exactly where i was when he passed. Refusing to let go of the pain out of some form of self punishment, or just a fear that letting go of it and moving forward means leaving both him and my dad behind. But i woke up today with the realization that i need to unpack and take stock of all I've been carrying, then release the things that no longer serve me. And for the first time, i felt that way without the guilt that is usually attached, and with an overwhelming feeling not just that it's ok, but that it's time. And then.. as I'm driving home in a heavy rain i hear this song. And it just feels like a big nod from the universe. That letting go of the pain means making room for the joy. And that unpacking all that's weighed me down does not mean i am leaving them behind. Feeling immense gratitude for this moment, and for this song, bringing things full circle in so many beautifully magical ways ❤
