Hello! I'm Marla, and I am Raising Cain! Wife of 35 years, mother of 5, and grandmother of 6. I am a lifelong crafter who loves creating things for my home and my family. I share my treasures found in the wild (thrifting, yard sales, side of the road) and show how I use them seasonally in my busy home here in north Alabama.

😁 you just make me smile and laugh! A gift to my soul❤️
What kind words!! Thank you so much 😊 💕
I’ve just got to tell you what an inspiration you are to me…God bless you and thank you for your prayers at the end of your videos☺️☺️🐓they truly touch me…to the point of tears in fact☺️🐓
Ginger, I love knowing that it touches your heart when I share my faith! ❤️ Thrifting and crafts are great, but the best of all is the love of Jesus, and I love to share it! 😊 💕 🙌
I seen a lady and she painted the outside of the bulb and it looked great.
Yes, that's probably the better method! I love the idea of the glossy look by painting the inside, but doing mine this way was not the easiest process in the long run.
We must be distantly related, ‘cause I too buy an object that is cool, even though it I am uncertain of what it is! In my mind, I know it will become a treasure to me.
Our homes are 10x more interesting when we have collected groups of finds instead of mass produced trends, in my opinion 😊 ✨️
Loved the ice cream green and your sweet accent!
Thanks, Laura! 😃 I am still loving that color on the ice cream bucket. I don't hear my own accent but I'm told it's pretty thick 😆 🤣 😂
This is so you
😊 💕
Nice !! I am from Waynesville, just a tiny bit away ! These mountains are home home ❤
I dearly love the Appalachian mountains! My ancestors must surely have lived there. I feel it in my bones ❤️
I love the stars & stripe pillow but if it were mine, I would have hand stitched around the edges for a more primitive look.
That's a good idea! I'll have to try that soon! 😊
Hi from the Smoky Mtns. This video showed up in my suggestions. I subscribed. we call them buggies too. You are precious!
Ah, you live in my favorite place.on earth! ❤️ Thanks for watching and subscribing! 😃
I had the same story! I didn’t see my mom read very often, but my mom always ordered books for me from Scholastic Books!
I always LOVED my Scholastic books! 📚
Oh!! What about the boxes? Could mod Podge be used on an old box?
I think it would be fine. I've decoupaged many boxes and they do very well with Mod Podge
Thank you!!
Hello again. So many questions for you. Does mod pudge crack over time? Does it yellow or look unnatural? I’m kind of afraid to use it on my old labels. But I gotta try it. I wish I could ship an old labeled bottle to you. And you could work your magic. Sigh… I’m watching and listening closely to you and your techniques. I just need to jump!! Haha..,
My Mod Podge projects have not yellowed or cracked over time. They have held up for years looking just as they did in the beginning. Try doing an item that is not valuable first, to help you decide if it will work for your older items.
Wow! Great ideas!
Thanks! 😃 💕
I burst out laughing so many times throughout this video but the absolute BEST was when you said “ my husband is an ACTUAL rocket scientist “………. 😂 The rest of us just tell our husbands “it’s not rocket science honey, just do it this way”……I bet your hubby gets that a lot😂😂😂
What he gets is a lot of grief from ME, telling him he's too smart to be that dumb 😄 He is entirely left-brained and logical, we are literal opposites! But his logical thinking will be what saves our lives in any emergency, true fact! ❤️
❤loved every project❤
I'm so glad! Thanks! 😃 💕
I just happened upon one of your more recent videos and I had to go back and watch more of your older stuff too! I love your excitement and enthusiasm!! I'll be watching more!!
Thanks, Candi! 😃 I love finding and sharing old junk! 💕
Thanks so much!! I’ve learned a lot from you.
That makes me so happy! 😊 ✨️
Hello enjoyed this video! I’m considering using ModPodge to protect some tattered labels on 125 year old bottles. I can’t remove these labels so will modpodge be ok painted on the surface of an old label? What would you do to preserve a vintage label on a fairly expensive bottle. Would it look ok? Thank you!! David
Hey! 👋 Thanks for watching! I am not an expert on conservation or restoration, for sure, but if I were wanting to preserve an old label, I'd use matte mod podge with a very soft bristle brush so that it did not leave brush marks. Use matte so that it isn't glossy. Try to not get any mod podge on the glass, just on the label. You'll be able to see where it overlaps onto the glass. I think it would look fine and give a layer of protection. You could try it on a modern bottle with a paper label first (just something like vinegar or Worcestershire sauce), to see how it looks before you try it on an old expensive label. Let me know how it turns out! 😃
Thanks so much for answering me. I’ll be careful not to get any on the bottle. I noticed you wipe all thru the process. Very good!!
Marla, your pretty bowls sitting on the napkin tray could hold any number of beads. It would need to be beads that are not tiny. The only decoupage I have attempted was back in the 60's and 70's. We didn't have Modpog to cover pretty paper but we used layer upon layer of polyurethane. The best coverage was created by applying a layer, completely drying it, then sanding using a fine grit sand paper. It has really been interesting to follow all the trends for creating crafts. Enjoy watching you create such lovely items. God bless you and all your family. Sherry from Alabama (Rainbow City)
Wow, decoupage was a lot harder to do then! But I think it would have been more durable 😄 Thanks for watching! 💕
I could have watched that all day ❤. So creative and beautiful 😻. Happy 4th❣️
Thank you, Patrice! 😊 You are very kind! 💕
Marla your home is so beautifully decorated. I look forward to your home tours. I especially like the patriotic decor. I music accompanying this video was really good. Very relaxing. I wish l had a cd of it.😊 Happy 4th and God Bless America!
Sandra, I love picking out the music for my videos! I use an online service that has every category of music you can imagine. I always go with folk and bluegrass sounding music. Thank you for watching, and for your kind words! 😊 💕
And that precious doll at the end gets me every time. My dream is to find one to adopt one day
My mother collects old composition dolls like that one, but that's the only one I have found for myself. She is so sweet! 😍
What a beautiful home and family. Blessings to you all and a happy fourth
Thank you so much! Blessings to you and yours! ❤️

How sweet you had a friend, across the pond, to gift you, just loved that for you. Marla I enjoyed the music you chose in showcasing your home, and you did a labor of love styling everything so beautifully. I enjoyed seeing your family as well. Happy Independence Day to you and your family, and my God bless and keep y'all❤🤍💙
Thank you, Melanie, for letting me know you enjoyed watching! Thanks also for mentioning the music. I do take time to pick out music that seems to fit the vibe, and it's most often folk or bluegrass. Glad you noticed it! 😃 🎶 ❤️

Aw, thanks for all the kind words! 💕 😊
Happy 4th to you and family. Amazing video.😊❤️
Thanks so much!! 😊 ❤️ 🇺🇸
Marla, you did such a beautiful job, capturing the beautiful Americana vignette in your house. Your house is amazing and a so beautiful with all your amazing homemade craft and all your thrifted treasures. The pictures of those grandbabies on stairs going up the porch barefoot. I not sure if it’s Claire or Margaret on porch ahead of him. That picture reminds me of of Norman Rockwell drawing just precious!!! Loved the glimpses of your vacation with the family and the grandbabies they so beautiful and my goodness they’re growing up so quickly. The picture of the grandbaby with his great grandfather on his 90th birthday. It is priceless. My favorite was with the picture of you and your dad in front of the cabin and the one you inside his old car. The view of the sunset of the North Carolina mountains is breathtaking. Thank you for doing this video for us and sharing your family with all of us. May God bless you and all your beautiful family!!! Happy Fourth of July and God bless the USA!!!✝️🇺🇸💟🇺🇸☮️🇺🇸
The moment I was about to take pics of my geraniums, the babies came toddling past me and it was just a spontaneous moment I was blessed to catch ❤️ 😍 The baby stepping up barefoot has a timeless look to it. It's Claire running ahead of him. As I was putting together photos for this video, the photos of my family were all mixed in. I decided they all belonged together this time. A summer filled with family, and a bit of vintage decor squeezed in. Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the way I presented it! 😊 💕
Everything looks so nice and well put together. You have such an awesome collection. Thank you for sharing it with me.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it! 😃 ✨️ 🇺🇸
The way you styled all your finds and handmade items looks fabulous Marla! Maximalism at its finest!❤. Have a wonderful 4th!
Thank you! 😊 My eyes love lots of interesting items grouped together, telling a visual story ✨️ 💖 💕
Dont really want to see always close up. Like to see it all standing back as well.
I'll keep that in mind for next time 😉
Marla, from beginning to end….thoughtful & inspiring. Wonderful tribute to our great country 🇺🇸❤
Thanks! I do love my country and I love celebrating with red white and blue for summer! 🇺🇸 😃
Very beautiful ❤️🤍💙
Thank you, Julia! 😃
Marla, a beautiful tour and a beautiful family. Isn’t it fun decorating with vintage, thrifted treasures. Happy 4th. Love and blessings ❤️💙🇺🇸💙❤️
Thank you! I find so much enjoyment in decorating for the seasons! 4th of July is especially fun 🇺🇸
Wow!! Stephen Spielberg would be proud to have his name associated with that blockbuster. Thanks for the mention . No need for that. Amazing work Marla and so many goodies , truly beautiful. Hope you all have a wonderful 4th together. Stay safe and God bless you all.
I am still looking at the dishes on that card!! And I really do love the books. You went to considerable trouble to ship them to me from Ireland! And I love them 💕
Love the scenery and the music
Thanks so much! 😊 🇺🇸
Beautiful ❤ Happy 4th 🇺🇸
Thanks, Bren! 😃
Hi Marla, you have such a good eye on how to put things together. Your home is so beautiful and cozy. Your dad is a handsome man, and love his hair. Olivia looks so much like her mama, blessed girl. You and your family enjoy the rest of your vacation and thanks for the video. Take care and God Bless ❤🥰Brenda
Thanks so much! 😃 Very often, when I am arranging my vintage finds, I think the items somehow end up in places they look most balanced (for a maximalist!) I reareange until it seems like it flows. I realize my maximalism isn't for everyone, and that's fine ❤️ 😊
All your thrift buying adventures has paid off, the way you put everything together is beautiful. Love the color of red, white and blue everywhere in your home.God Bless America!
Thanks for such kind words! I do love letting my items play together nicely 😄 Americana, vintage, and patriotic = so much fun 🇺🇸
Love it all..but i really am jealous over the fake figs! Cant find anywhere and they look so real. Ate them right off the bush/tree at my grandmothers in mississippi.
My great grandmother had a massive fig trees that always produced big beautiful figs like those, and I have the best memories of it! I found those figs thrifted but I wish I knew where they came from. Maybe Amazon or Hobby Lobby? 🤔
@marlacainraisingcain I could try. Dont get on internet shopping sites often. Thanks. Grandmother would cut them up into warm cream!
That sounds just wonderful 😍
From the opening photo of the precious grandbabies, thru all the delicious vignettes and slices of family life, all the way to the end....this video is so you, Marla...and why I love your channel ❤️❤️❤️. Your house is beautifully decorated inside and out....truly eye candy, but also a loving home. Enjoy the 4th with your lovely family!
There is still a box of 4th decor somewhere in the shuffle of moving room contents 😄 but I do have plenty, as you can see 🇺🇸 We are in Tuckasegee NC and it's quite the lively household! Men are kayaking. Women and children soaking up this amazing view 😍
❤🤍💙 I have never seen the 4th of July done so well and so adorably!🎉
You are so kind! I really love patriotic Americana! 🇺🇸
Love it all...
Thank you! Happy 4th! 🇺🇸
Thank you for the wonderful video. I was just chuckling along with you and your down to earth comments. Loved it! when you said that about the minimalists lol. Love all the charm you bring to your home.
So glad you enjoyed watching! 😃 💕
The band box is fantastic
😃 Thanks! I bet that image could be printed out and decoupaged onto the lid for an even easier project ✅️
Marla l love your diys. I want to make some of the small pillows.✌❤🙏
They were so quick and easy! I love drop cloth for things like that! 😃 ✨️
Can’t wait to do this for Christmas. Love your channel. Sooo cute. 😊

You are absolutely amazing. 😊
My goodness, you're too kind! 😊 ✨️
