Great content guys, much appreciated 🙂 The reason VAR is making refs worse, I believe, is like most technology these days; people rely on it far too much and use their own brains less and less. Just like how smart phones are making people dumber.

I had Gvardiol in my WC35 team and then did something I've done so well avoiding this season: started overthinking and changed him to, out of all the options, Aké. Now he's not gonna get an attacking return, is he, and he'll be benched over the next two gameweeks, won't he.

Spurs will have a good excuse to lose for a change. If they roll over against City it'll ruin the best season for years. Spurs will have even less respect from others.

When Rashford isn't scoring, he provides very little to United. No need to rush him back, especially given his form this season. Antony has looked more confident, decision making is a bit better and work rate is a given. Garnacho and Antony/Amad should start if all fit.

Great show as usual. I've always thought that getting players from the lower leagues to be referees would be a good idea, they've played the game, so they're familiar with the tricks and dark arts employed by many players. Also their level of fitness levels are far better. I really feel that the game's moved on in regards to the athleticism of the players, and the refs just haven't been able to keep up. Refs don't get substituted after 60mins either and people are far more liable to make a mistake when they're tired. The one thing above everything else though is consistency, somehow or the other they have to start making the same decision for the same offence. I can think of two decisions off the top of my head where the same offence was given on one occasion and not given in anothe. One involved Onana at Man U and the other Romero at Spurs.

Surely it starts off with paying refs better? There has to be resentment from the refs to the players who are the most talented footballers in the world, getting paid 60x more than them. Also VAR at its core undermines the on pitch ref. Like the Ben Davies / Rice one from the weekend, that gets given in the championship because it doesn’t have VAR for sure

Feel sorry for James. Villa dropping points vs Brighton and Spurs picking up 5-6 points from Chelsea, Liverpool and Burnley and they go into the City game with a realistic top 4 chance. Will literally go to the game not knowing whether he wants Spurs to win or lose.

Bayer Leverkusen are not the Everton of Bundesliga. They're a European team who were having a crap season before Alonso arrived. More suitable comparisons would be West Ham, Chelsea or even Man United.

Grealish was 100% a handball. The fact that the referee gave a goal kick shows that he didn’t even see the touch and therefore he should be told to go and have a look at it and then make his decision.

On the Lille penalty dispute. Bailey does not foul the defender who clattered his own keeper. That's why it was never a penalty. Causing him to hit his own keeper by jumping for a header and putting him off balance is irrelevant because it isn't a foul in the first place. Giving a penalty trhere would have just been bonkers.
