Did you really need to open the program with that outworn Bach piece?? This must not be for people who play or have played pipe organs, or that choice would never have been made.

The target audience is fourth grade school children, who are mostly unfamiliar with the existence of pipe organs. An abbreviated version of the piece was deliberately chosen as one most likely to be familiar to this particular audience, as a jumping-off point for learning about the instrument.

The organ was the most spiritual part of our church. When the new pastor took over, he had the organ torn out and thrown into the dumpster like common garbage. Totally destroyed 😢 it was a 13 rank very well maintained pipe organ always in perfect tune. The pastor needed space for the Hugh speakers and strobe lights. On the stage he needed space for the guitars, drums and dancers 😢 now we use earplugs to protect our ears from Jesus Christ damage.

I just dont understand how a single person can make all those parts form a song. I know this is for kids and that fact really makes me feel dumb. ( because I'm 35yrs old) its all too much for me to fathom being possible for any human to do but many have and do to perfection.

It's the Toccata from "Toccata und Fuge d-moll" (BWV 565), written by J. S. Bach. In english should it be named "Toccata and Fuge D-minor". The BWV xxx is an unique index for every work written by J. S. Bach.

If you have never heard one of these things live, you have no idea of the sheer ground-shaking power they can project. No sound system, not even a rock concert speaker stack, can shift the volume of air that passes through a pipe organ. Speakers work by vibrating a paper or polymer cone back and forth over a few inches at most. Even massive concert stacks only displace a few cubic feet of air. An organ can displace hundreds of cubic feet of air, and the resulting vibration pulses through your body like a jackhammer. Everyone should put on their bucket list to attend a pipe organ recital. No stereo or PA system will ever sound good enough again!

I believe, Ashton, it is one of the movements (parts) of one of the French Romantic composers and, is likely a Finale (grand ending). Best-guess? -- either 1. Charles Marie Widor or 2. Louis Vierne as composers -- both very high on the list of the great French ones. The thing kind of gets to one, no? As-in sending chills up and down one's spine?

I had once built out of BALSA wood (usually model airplanes are built out of this material) a 120 cm diapasion pipe, I blew into it and actually ihad a nice soft C. (unfortunaltely it got left behind in moving. But IT WORKED! I was going to build a small 'positiv' organ but never did so. I have played and as san Francisco is so guarded on their pipe organs (especially Grace cathedral) I was in Freiburg im Breisgau and the Freiburgerdom I had met their organist and on St Stefenstag (boxing Day in UK) I met up with their organist and he had asked me 'Spielsst du?' Mir kannst deutsch. I got to play and the rear ranks and trompette are metres in the rear of this cathedral. It takes about two seconds to hear the pipes speak from the back of the church. I had to be cafeful to know what I was palying and not depend on hearing from this set of ranks, or I would screw up. I made it through one of largest 'Domen' in Germany. I lost interest for a while that is why I am admittedly not an accomplished organist, but I do know obviously how to play. It is one of my favourite instruments as well as campanology and the santur. I also have perfect pitch.
