  I love the Mike Oldfield. But 2011 is my favourite by miles. Part of it is nostalgia as it was the one I grew up with but I do really like it.

  John Craven is a very nice 👌 man 🧍‍♂️ 👨 who is a former Newsround presenter. The reason why it’s called Newsround is because it is screened on BBC1 for a limited amount of time 🕰️ for around perhaps 🤔 5 to 10 minutes. It’s for children 🧒 👧 👦 only. 👍

  So this is now 2 years ago I started! This was a fun little project to work on my video editing and pretend I was producing a TV show. The inspiration was after I rediscovered a childhood favourite show, Da Dick & Dom Diaries - I thought why not compile the best live CBBC links (Office being the era I grew up with). Initially I put together 3 episodes to test the waters. I then grew that to 10. After a short pause, the remaining 13 came out with a bit more planning, searching as many sources as I could find to fill in the gaps. I finished with 23 eps, which felt about right considering the nature of the project, and also of how much content was accessible to me. Looking back, there's definitely some editing here that I would tidy up - but isn't that all part of it? And hopefully these silly little sketches brought some joy to you :)

  Was gutted when they replaced the Mike Oldfield theme with that Simon Brint monstrosity, and I still am! Not sure his Howards Way-esque follow-up was a lot better, mind you.

  Although I think the Oldfield version is by far the best (being a long term admirer) To be fair, his soundtrack to Monarch of the glenn is superb.

  I remember seeing the making of report on the Oldfield theme, it was fascinating (it's up here somewhere). It was a superb theme - by the time they introduced it the previous one sounded horrifically old-fashioned.

  Have you seen an extended version of the 1989 theme has emerged? It’s used in the 2500th episode montage. Nice to hear the extended 1992 theme here which I think is from my upload. They actually used it a lot during that period but my example is when speeding up Tracey Island, so no background chatter. There was an extended version of the 1994 theme shown during the making of it on the show. It’s similar to this one but with a longer bridging bit in the middle before the second play kicks in.

  4:13 it's a shame there isn't a better copy of this (with a clean intro instead of the audio from an edition badly edited on to the beginning) as this is very rare. Apart from the drum roll, one could be created by using the bit in the middle which repeats the first several seconds (4:52 - 5:05)

  The album recording is phenomenally good, especially with that middle part that is then replicated over the main theme. By far my favourite. Every BP theme thereafter was just utter bumgravy

  The original 1958 theme and the 1979 Mike Oldfield recordings are really the only 2 to actually have proper full length versions.
