But I have a massive soft spot for it in my heart. And I think I’m the only person on earth who likes his cover of “God Only Knows” 🤣🤣🤣 But don’t we all have a soft spot for a certain album in our favorite artist catalog that we love but everyone else hates 🤣🤣🤣 Also have it on CD with 3 bonus tracks 1. @top5records79620 сағат бұрын
Thanks! Very interesting about outtakes indeed although the producers said Bowie was not very concerned about this album. What is interesting though… is his later attempt to re-record and remix Never Let Me Down. He actually started work on that before he died and it was finished by his collaborator after, because Bowie felt that the songs there were good and were a victim of it’s time. I will review it in this series!

I enjoy Obscured By Clouds a lot and I appreciate Endless River for what is, just a loose cuts compilation. Very good ranking! Of course we have our little differences, I tend to prefer Out of Our Heads over RS2, I'd rank Undercover higher than Voodoo and Emotional/Tattoo probably a bit higher too but the rest is quite close! I can put either Sticky or Let It Bleed on top. I did love Hackney, didn't rank it yet but it deserves a good position, maybe below all the classics including Goat and Black and Blue though. You surprised with Blue and Lonesome, didn't pay much attention to it.. Need to play it again!

Good question! I’d need to compare that. The Station To Station is from a live version though and I do notice a lot of difference in EQ’ing in the film (the sound designer, cleverly, makes it resemble the frequencies that are most present when the music is played to load in a club).

@@top5records796 interesting thanks, yeah the station to station part does needed to sound live since they're supposed to be on the concert, but sides that one there are others so yeah maybe they're those songs that are played at the club scenes that sound different, so maybe they are the album versions but all the noise makes them sound different, but can't remember exactly, it's been a couple of months since last time I watched the film

this album is a particular case because all songs, except for "please please me" have virtually identical-sounding mixes in mono and stereo. i would still buy the mono just for the "'true' please please me", the actual version and not an outtake they used for the stereo mix, but the stereo is great to have if you want to listen to all other songs.

My dad saw a video talking about the best sounding Beatles albums of all time and the HORZU second pressing (1973) of Magical Mystery Tour is THE best sounding Beatles album of all time because unlike the first pressing and pressings from other countries, both sides are true stereo, not just side A. It's also the only pressing that masks the splice in Strawberry Fields Forever. You have the second pressing in case you were wondering (the label in the corner is different between first and second pressings) and oddly enough, it's usually much cheaper than the first pressing because everyone assumes the first pressing is the good one, but it still has the fake stereo on side B. I got the HORZU second pressing for my dad and he first played his original US copy for one song and then switched them and within 10 seconds he was like Oh yeah, this is WAY better. The easiest song to compare if you ever want to show anyone is Strawberry Fields Forever because the mix is just so much better on that song in particular. It's well worth the money for any Beatles fan!
