Gustloff Wilhelm was not the only Victim of S13 Soviet Submarine. 11 Days later the SS General von Steuben was sunk with a loss of 4500 from an estimated 5200, two torpedoes were fired and she sank in 20 minutes.

Poland. It rests about 19 sea miles from a Polish city Łeba. Here you have the coordinates, put them in Google Maps and you'll see it 55°07'27.7"N 17°42'14.6"E

Его затопление было законно,поскольку корабль числился в составе ВМФ, и на нем были военные. Преступление- это эвакуация гражданских на военном судне. Покойтесь с миром😢

The ship sank with over 9,000 souls on board, yet the few people authorized to dive on the wreck reportedly found no human remains nor their personal effects. Looks like the Soviets went out of their way to scrub the wreck and hide the fact that they committed a very heinous war crime.

I doubt that there would have been a necessity to erase all traces. The public opinions were still different then and tolerated the sinking of the Gustloff for some more decades. I guess there is a context with the dismounting and removal of all industrial facilities and railway lines from Eastern Germany towards the Soviet Union in the postwar years. They even wanted the steel of the massive wreck, but it turned out to be too difficult and expensive, so they gave it up half the way.

My grandparents (father-side) fled with their families from the area around Danzig(Gdańsk) at the end of WW2 when they were just children to northwest Germany. They were not on the Gustloff but if their families decided to flee earlier they could have been on the ship. Some people from the villages of my grandparents died on that ship as well. Weird to think that if their families decided differently me and my father wouldn't have been born. Sometimes, small decisions can have huge effects on the future. Although I believe every soul that is supposed to be born will be born, just to different parents. This feels a lot more personal when I think about it that my ancestors could have been on that ship.

Similar story here, my grandmother and her family fled from Jungfer (Marzęcino) by Danzig! They were supposed to be on the Gustloff but got turned down at the dock, which saved them.

I can't find it in my heart to feel bad for fleeing Nazis, but for innocents who were merely trying to get home, for released prisoners< what kind of fate was this? Four minute/5,000 lives. And look at the date. Humans make no sense.

One of those great IFs of WWII.....what IF Nazi Germany had developed a creditable naval aviation force without actually building that foolish naval" Plan Z " ---( with those silly H class battleships and the O class battlecruisers --- yes they both were impressive to look at and carried equally impressive armaments--- they were also gas guzzlers that would have needed frequent refueling or they would have short range)....with those carriers the Nazis might have won the battle of the Atlantic...

How entirely fitting that there were large numbers of trained Kriegsmarine submarine crews on board when the Soviet submarine launched her attack! The Soviet submarine crew couldn't have believed their luck when they spotted the armed, swastika flying, Nazi ship trying to evade them. Ram packed with Nazis desperately trying to escape the Soviet forces advance, she presented as a highly prestigious target, one that no self respecting Soviet submarine crew could ignore! These Nazis experienced far quicker deaths than millions of innocent men, women (many pregnant), children and babies murdered in extermination camps and elsewhere by the Nazis. Only the children and babies aboard the WG, merit sympathy, they were innocent victims of the Nazis war against Russia.

  • @felixcat9318

6 to 7,000 Nazis dead in four minutes, that's quite an achievement for the Soviet submarine cew and almost as good as the Willhelm Gustav's 9,000 Nazis. They all had better deaths than the millions of men, women (many pregnant), children and babies murdered in Nazi extermination camps and elsewhere by their fellow Nazis...

This ship was marked as a hospital ship, what the hell is wrong with you. I’m also not defending Nazis, but the Soviets were also atrocious in their brutality. The Gustloff’s victim count was also comprised of 5,000 children, who didn’t have anything to do with Nazi atrocities. Go see a psychiatrist.

As harsh as it is to say, legally S-13 didn’t do anything wrong. She wasn’t a hospital ship, and she was also carrying military personnel. Unfortunately S-13 had no way of knowing if they were transporting children or an SS Battalion.

a year ago, the Germans destroyed the Soviet passenger steamship "Armenia", on the bart of which there were 4,000 people. all who were in the two boats launched into the water were shot by German aviators. in the water, along with the corpses, aircraft bullets floated that killed these people. only 300 out of 4,000 survived. on the “Armenia” was bombarded from the air with incendiary bombs and aviation torpedoes. we had the right to destroy "gustloff"

  • @Zeder95

@@GROMOV2009 Most of the people on the Gustloff were innocent civilians, they were not responsible for the evils committed by the Nazis. There were a lot of people in the german population who were against the Nazis but couldn't voice it publicly. Don't blame the entire population of a country for the atrocities that the military and government committed.
