Surviving Schizophrenia

Surviving Schizophrenia

Hi, everyone! I'm Stephen, and I am thrilled to welcome you to "Surviving Schizophrenia," a channel of hope, strength, and community for anyone journeying through mental health challenges.

At age 12, I spent two weeks at UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. I emerged with a diagnosis of schizophreniform disorder that quickly developed into schizophrenia, accompanied by an anxiety disorder. I have treatment-resistant childhood onset schizophrenia.

You'll find inspiring stories, practical advice, and a raw yet compassionate view of living with a misunderstood condition. But more than that, you'll find a community. As I share my navigation through these unpredictable seas, I invite you to join in, share your tales, or listen to the echoes of triumph and perseverance from different corners of the world.

So please subscribe and become part of a future where we approach mental health with empathy, understanding, and genuine support.

With gratitude and friendship, Stephen

Stephen my son has this condition and that’s how it is with him too. Don’t worry about sleeping in late sometimes that’s how it is. Also please get checked for sleep apnea. Glycine and niacin taken together is helpful for sleep disturbances. Just be sure to match the dosage eg. If you’re taking 3 mg niacin 3 times per day then you must also take 3 mg glycine also. That’s how I help my son in his healing and he’s also in his teen and his diagnosis and episodes started during high school. Stay strong. You’re doing great. God bless you and I pray you continue to heal. Also gardening helps sometimes.

Please research high dosage D3 . It has helped someone I know extremely. It reduces the psychosis episodes.

I took lexapro and neurontin and the combo made me extrmely manic and skinny. It was before I had mania then was changed to lithium and seroquel. Now I am extremely heavy. Any seroquel increase is an immediate gain for me. Its so frustrating. I work out every day

Your channel is amazing-offering so much true hope! Thank you for working hard to document & share your wisdom. The isolation has been one of the hardest parts for me too. I got really sick, bed ridden, severe depression, and was isolated from others for months-this caused a psychotic break and all the delusions began me literally running away and living homeless (or house to house) for 2yrs. So isolation is a huge cause and now not trusting others. But I can finally leave my house consistently and spend quality time with loved ones. Took awhile and ALOT of courage and persistence wading :::thru::: intrusive thoughts, to trust loved ones past my delusions again. But its working, big time! My brain & perception are healing. Dont give up! Keep working on building your relationships. This is what will heal you completely eventually.

Hi Stephen. I wanted to make sure you and your dad also found the incredible work of Dr. Chris Palmer (Brain Energy), Dr. Shebani Sethi, Metabolic Mind on KZread, Lauren Kennedy (Living well with Schizophrenia), and many others. They've found that there is a connection between metabolic function and the brain. Ketogenic therapy has reversed Schizophenia, BiPolar, etc., with more clinical trials going on right now. Many patients have gone into remission. As yet, I've not seen an article or video about reducing clozapine through medical ketogenic therapy. Maybe you'll be the first! This gives me so much hope for my son......I want him to go beyond the past 15 years with energy, motivation, love of life, and no side effects!

You should get tested for sleep apnea, lack of oxygen to the brain because sinus abnormalities, mouth breathing aggravated by allergies or asthma are sometime undetected. Also, get tested for Lyme disease. Routines are so helpful as well as exercise, like walks, especially when I have to push myself. Also, food sensitivities are something to be aware of. Ice cream and certain soft drinks cause chaos in my sleep routine. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for all you do!

Thanks for sharing this information. I have bipolar disorder and PTSD; I have taken several different antipsychotics. Most of them gave me negative side effects. I currently take Latuda and risperidone. I am also on lithium, Xanax, and prazosin. I get manic sometimes when I am under a lot of stress, which is usually when the psychosis kicks in. Lithium has been a real game-changer for me and for the most part, I am usually stable.

He had an abnormal EEG? You know there are certain paraepileptic psychoses? Also, might be autoimmune-psychosis. Please look at the article from science. In Germany they do CSF analysis for autoantibodies and also for yet unknown autoantibodies. In Freiburg (van Elst) and Berlin (Harald Pruess). "THE INFLAMED BRAIN Autoimmune conditions underlie some cases of psychosis. Scientists are expanding their search for patients, who often benefit from treatment" Your acute, fast onset at a young age is weird.

Must be nice to have people understand and care about you and want to help you. As for me, my family and friends all ran away scared and left me alone to deal with my disorder as best I could. Nothing scares people more, than a mentally ill person, and the only help you'll get, is cheap advice to turn to religion

Let's hope this is a change of season sleeping phase thing. Whatever it is, it is tough. I'll give you some homework to listen to if you like. It may put you to sleep which might be good but if not it will give you lots of material for your podcast. The podcast series is called " Awakening from the Meaning Crisis" by John Vervaeke.. I found it excellent. There are 50 episodes. Take care Stephen, you are a great warrior!

There is a lady with schizophrenia who has been youtubing her experiences living with this illness. She has recently tried the medical keto way of eating and has after 3 months gone into remission and most of her symptoms have disappeared. She has been placed on the lowest does of medication. I would love to hear about your journey trying the keto way of eating and talking about any changes you experience.

Hiya, I’m new to the channel. I’ve always had a deep interest in the way the brain operates, internally and externally (sounds funny). Has it ever crossed your mind of schizophrenia being a spiritual battle? Rather than a physical one taking place in just the brain? This isn’t my definite belief, but through things I’ve seen, heard, learnt, and even experienced, I’m starting to lean more towards that. I could be wrong! But if that sounds somewhat plausible to you, I hope you find more of what you’re looking for through it.
