Not removing colored gravel will make it pop up later when planting things, and will make it way more difficult to deal with as you'll have to pick out individual pieces out of the sand. Just get a flat scoop, takes like 5 min to remove all gravel once all the decor is out. BTW, blasting sand contains crystalline silica, which can cause serious respiratory disease, even fatal, probably best not to breath in that stuff when you pour.

Lol, pretty bad advice for some one who actually needs to remove the gravel. "How do I get it out?" "Just don't" How does putting the sand on top help me put the gravel in a new tank? lol

Play sand is less than $5 dollars at a hardware store, only downside is that it isn't very pretty!

I just bought river sand. It was soooooo dirty, it took me ages to wash it and after 40 min I literally gave up. Water was still orange. My fresh tank is now cloudy but I put fine filter wool inside the filter and some carbon. Will also do daily water changes. I have tons of plants and no fish in it yet. It's my first dirted tank so fingers crossed it works

I have 3 Shubunkins in a pond. Planning to get two koi. I also have 3 tadpoles in the pond. We have bullfrogs in our area. Will the shubunkins be okay or should I rehome the bullfrogs when they mature?

I tired this and let me tell you...leaving the ild substrate was probably one of the worst ideas ever....old substrate eventually makes it back to the top and now you have a huge mess on your hands...cureently in the process of having to just remove it completely and jut re-doing it...just remove the old substrate guys!

I appreciate the video but I don't understand. Your adding a soil that's specifically designed to trap air to a design were you need the exact opposite traits

I Disagree With This Guy 100%...And I'm Speaking From The Perspective Of Experience. I Once Used Children's Sand-Box Sand As A Substrate In A 55 Gallon Planted Aquarium For Several Years...And It Worked Great...And It Looked Great Too. My Aquarium Vegetation Grew Well And Was Lush...If Anything, I Had To Occasionally Trim It. In An Established Tank, Plants Derive Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, And Micro-Nutrients From Fish Waste...Proper Lighting Is Also Instrumental To The Health Of Plants. This Fella Seems To Get Taken In By The Marketing That Comes From Substrate Manufacturers. I Will Also Add One More Thing...I Believe A Black Substrate Makes Any Aquarium Look Awful...And Very Unnatural.

I have a tetra I bought about a year ago. It's the smallest of the bunch, I bought 10 and put them in a 15gal tank. I woke up this morning to one sitting on the bottom of the tank, not swimming, but its gills and pectoral fins were still moving. I separated it from the bunch and put an aerator near it. Is there anything else you'd recommend me doing, or should I just keep it separated until it passes?

I will say this, these are the most resilient fish i have had by far. However, one of my danio has eaten just about all of the other danios tail. Not sure how to prevent this

They’re fine together until they’re not. The Pygmy’s are often sound asleep on the substrate, and when your Betta gets into one of his ‘moods’, that little sleeping fishy gets dive bombed. They panic and hurl themselves into the glass or rocks and can essentially implode. Not nice at all.

Most of the people I know that had problems with pothos in tank had to do with water changes. Several KZread channels say pothos is very good at reducing nitrate in water. Then, in the same breath, they say the only reason we do water changes is to reduce nitrates. So newbies get the idea that pothos=no water changes. Unless your tank is setup for that (ie. Long established, deep substrate, heavily planted, etc) stopping water changes is usually a bad idea.

I cant keep any kinds of moss, but my frogbit grows extremely well with the leaves getting about 2-3 inches in size. New shoots daily. My light setup - fluval plant light. Dual t5 grow light. 10 hours on. Co2 1bps and comes on 30 mins before lights to build the pressure. Tank - 75g natural tank. (3 inch topsoil, 2 inch white sand.) Ph 7.0 Gh just under 300 Kh about 80 Never changed my water, just top it off). Once a month maybe add a bit of nutrients to the water column. I have roughly 100 guppies, 8 cory cats, 6 oct cats, 40ish ghost shrimp, and really horny mystery snails.

I think like you about African cichlids, many of my friends try to convince me but I oscillate between finding them boring and worrying between too many reproductions and wars with deaths or serious injuries. Instead, I'm interested in fish that also interact with the outside world, with humans, that let themselves be touched, that have big personalities and do fun things in the aquarium. So for now Betta, opercularis, partially scalar but above all Oscar (but he is huge) and indeed Blood parrot and blue polar parrot. I just wanted to ask you if brindle parrots and blue polar parrots have the same behavior towards humans and the great personality of a blood parrot for you. in Italy they are hated because they are hybrids and I am criticized for even thinking about them. But honestly I haven't found any other fish that are so particular, I don't just want fish that go up and down and reproduce
