Endometriosis Australia

Endometriosis Australia

Endometriosis Australia is a nationally accredited charity that endeavours to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide endometriosis education programs, and provide funding for endometriosis research.

Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body.

1 in 9 Australian women, girls, and those who are gender diverse suffer with endometriosis at some point in their life with the disease often starting in teenagers. Symptoms are variable and this may contribute to the 6.5 year delay in diagnosis.

Common symptoms include pelvic pain that puts life on hold around or during a woman’s period. It can also damage fertility.

Whilst endometriosis most often affects the reproductive organs it is frequently found in the bowel and bladder and has been found in muscle, joints, the lungs and the brain.

The total economic burden per year in Australia is approximately $9.7 billion AUD.

For the 2024 symposium it would be great if you could talk about endometriomas (large over 8 cm) but also treatment guidelines when MRI or COGU scan can't confirm endometrioma or haematosalpinx

I have both endometriosis and PCOS, and I live in America, so I can't get the good meds and I only recently found a doctor who actually seems to believe my pain. I personally began using cannabis for insomnia, but now I can barely get out of bed without it. My pain has gotten to the point where I want another surgery asap (my last was in early april), and I have completely devoted my life to cannabis (as it is currently the only thing that lets me somewhat live my life). All this is just to say that I greatly appreciate medical professionals who can see the health benefits past the psychoactive effects when it comes to cannabis.

We are helping patients with endometriosis via acupuncture to help manage their pain and if they do decide to take herbs we make sure they take the herbs at least 2hours away from medications to avoid interaction. I also ask patient for their GP/specialist details so I can contact them re: tx protocols etc 🧡

Thank you so much for the beautiful imagery and artistry ❤️❤️❤️ Kindly; the definition of endometriosis is wrong :-(. Endometriosis is similar to, but bro the same as the lining of the uterus. The heavy bleeding is caused by adenomyosis, a disease of the uterus. Endometriosis is by definition outside the uterus; and is found as early as in fetuses, which helps support that it’s not backwards mensuration. It’s really important that when we share these stories we share the right definition so that we can help spread awareness. Is there a way to make a comment about this box below so other know the updated info? It’s also important because endometriosis is found all over the body, not just in the pelvic. And the only treatment that removes the cells completely is excision surgery. Most GYNs do ablation :-(. We would love to share this on our crisis page and other places with the correction. The reason the pain is back after a hysto is because the endo is left in the body. It’s insane that doctors offer hystos as if they will help meanwhile leaving the disease behind. Like having kidney cancer and removing the kidney but leaving the kidney

Hi Bee, We acknowledge & understand this definition is incorrect. It was identified after production had completed by the Endo & Us and is unable to be changed. We really wanted to share endo warrior's stories and have their voices heard. We have the correct definition on our website and all social channels and have been one of the leading international advocates in this space we do understand the importance of correct information and appreciate your feedback.
