    Preply is always taking applications for new tutors due to the various time zones and student access from all over the world.

    I have been taking lessons with Preply for 3 years. They recently changed their lesson time from 1 hour to 50 minutes for the same price. They also increased the amount of fee they charge the tutor. I have had wonderful tutors on Preply, but these changes display the company's greed, and their lack of understanding of the customer. It is difficult to complete a language lesson in 15 minutes, especially at intermediate level. My tutor and I spend 20 minutes conversing in the language on culture , 20 minutes reviewing the homework she gave me and 20 minutes of learning new grammar. A 50 minute lesson is rushed. Italki still has 60 minute lessons and they even give options for 30 and 45 minutes. Italki also charges less fees to their tutors. Some of the Preply tutors are also on Italki. Preply turned their website a Pepto- Bismol pink color and called it an improvement. Their customer service staff are not helpful. I suggest using Italki.

    Were you able to start with "Cambly Kids" or are you still waiting? I'm planning to apply for both Camby versions and I'm definitely going to try Preply too. I"m disabled with MS so either one of these would be a savior for me. Thanks for the video and info!

    Greatly informative video! Thank you. Do you know currently if there are group classes across the board? I believe I saw where the classes now consist of four students to one teacher. Thank you!

    I am a teacher from Ukraine. Conducted the first lessons. Earned 54 dollars in a week. Then I withdrew the funds to my PayPal account, but there was nothing --- zero, the money was debited from the Preply account. I received a letter from Preply that the funds were sent to Paypend ... what else is Paypend? I contacted Preply and I still do not have any answer to my question ..... Two days have already passed, there is no response to my question about what happened to Groshy .... I conducted another lesson that was paid for, I repeat the operation, a message pops up that the money will be in your account within one hour .... This money was never debited from my preply account, but I can't get it either. They just stole my money and do not respond to any message after I asked a very correct question about my funds.

    How did you get 100% profile score

  • @teacherjessonline
    @teacherjessonline2 ай бұрын

    At the time, I followed all of Preply's recommendations. However, that was when you could see your profile ranking instantly on the platform. They have changed the algorithm, so my profile (though it used to be 100%) is now at 93% even though I haven't made any changes. Preply suggests profile score to be at 90% or higher.

    The idea is, to offer low prices to get students to bite. Deliver great lessons and raise your prices over time. Contact your students and inform them of the price increase. If they like you and see the value, they will be happy to pay the extra cost for the value you are delivering. You are also accumulating reviews which can help with rankings and getting future students. You have to work with the algorithm, even if it seems backwards at times.

    You are 100% correct! Last Summer, I joined Preply towards the end of my Summer break (full-time brick and mortar teacher), so I didn't really understand how Preply worked. However, I've started planning to tutor this Summer with Preply and will be raising my rate to reflect my teaching experience.

    Since I'm a full-time in-person brick and mortar teacher, this was a fun experiment for me to try during the Summer vacation. I enjoyed getting to teach adults English and meeting a bunch of diverse adult learners. With my teaching during my Summer break, I wasn't able to teach long term (only about 3 weeks), so I chose to keep my rate at $3. This Summer, I plan to teach long term and will increase my rate before allowing students to book lessons with me. Last Summer was definitely a learning experience! 😀

    Nice video! I'm teaching on Cambly now (just entering my 5th week !). Yes, I like the library of resources on there! How is the curriculum set up on Preply.... do you more or less have to design your own curriculum or do they supply a curriculum/lessons but you're saying they are not as good as Cambly? Not sure on that bit? I'm looking for a second platform to supplement Cambly pay but I don't have any extra time to design my own lessons !:). Thank you!

  • @teacherjessonline
    @teacherjessonline3 ай бұрын

    In my opinion, Preply's curriculum library is very easy to implement. Since I'm a mom with a toddler, I don't have time to sit and create ESL curriculum. Preply has a wide variety in their curriculum library for diverse student interest. Also, with Preply, you can set your rate versus Cambly which is a flat rate of pay. If I were you, I would use Preply first (able to adjust rate) and then Cambly as my secondary supplement pay since you can hop on Cambly's priority hours when you don't have Preply lessons scheduled. Hope this helps you! 😀

    Tutor for 3.00 per hour???

  • @teacherjessonline
    @teacherjessonline3 ай бұрын

    Great question! I was curious to see how long it would take a new Preply tutor to fill their teaching schedule by posting lessons at the lowest rate possible. Preply's website states that $3/hour has a 100% booking rate. Being curious, I set my rate to that amount and was stunned at literally how fast my schedule and inbox was filling up with student requests for lessons. I've done ESL tutoring on other platforms where it takes a while to build up a student base, but on Preply with a super low rate, I was swarmed with student interest. It was a fun (and overwhelming) experience! And yes, I am definitely increasing my rate to match my experience and qualifications. 😀

    @@teacherjessonline how long before you can increase you rate? are there rules as to how often you can up or lower your rate?

  • @teacherjessonline
    @teacherjessonline2 ай бұрын

    @@MelissaArendse I don't think there is a specific time frame when it comes to increasing your rate. Preply does offer a "How to Ask for a Raise" course in in the Tutor Academy. They mention when you add more value to your lessons (as in more planning to meet specific individual student needs), then it is important to adjust your rates over time. Hope this helps!

    @@teacherjessonline Hi. I'm a new tutor on preply. There are a lot of debate on rates. What I want to know is once you keep rate as low as 3 dollars and there is a conversion. Do these students continue at 3 dollars. Cuz as I presume we cannot change the rate after the classes are booked. Or we have to manually ask each student permission for rate hike. And it's not allowed I think.

    Starting on Preply was a teaching experiment while I was on Summer Break from my brick and mortar teaching job. Since it was supplementary income, I didn't worry about the price I was offering. I simply enjoy teaching and meeting new students. Now, I am planning on offering my ESL lessons on Preply this Summer for a much more competitive rate with my teaching experience and expertise. 😀

    A low price is also good on Preply because it helps your profile to take off, get more visibility and in the end lower the Preply commission. After 400+ hours, the commission goes down to only 18%, whereas when you start it's 33%!!! The more you teach, the lower it gets. Hope that they will lower it even more to at least 15% in the future, as this is a good chunk of the teacher's income, without mentioning taxes you need to pay further on.

    Very great advice. This deserves a lot of views. I think lowering my rate is definitely something I have to do at the beginning

  • @teacherjessonline
    @teacherjessonline3 ай бұрын

    Yes, but be careful! Your inbox will be swarmed with students asking for lessons and your schedule becoming filled immediately. You will want to have a strategy to increase your rate over time. So suggest starting with a low rate, and then slowly increasing it after a milestone number of classes (Example: slowly increase your rate after 5 classes with each student.) You don't want to burn out teaching high volumes of classes for very low pay. However, if you have a strategy to start with a low rate to gain students and then increase your rate, it will help you find the students who are the best fit as you will hopefully increase your classes taught number and gaining more student reviews. Hope this video was a help to you! 😀

    Thanks for asking! Due to my in-person full-time brick and mortar teaching job and family responsibilities, I only get to tutor for Preply during the Summer (May-July) here in the states. I'm already looking to start planning my Preply schedule for Summer 2024. Definitely going to be raising my price as I'll no longer be a beginner on the platform. Looking forward to meeting more students and helping them accomplish their English language goals. ✅
