Agree with the earlier comments. They don’t seem to grip the water at the catch, but rip it. Also, their body movement is not well synchronized. Thanks for posting.

The rowing looks oddly tense- everyone looks like they're working harder than they need to. Being a USA crew, you know there are some massive 2ks in that boat but it doesn't mean much if they can't row well together.

5 looks rigged a bit high. His finish and tap down doesn't look super comfortable. 4 seat is yanking with the arms and has a bit of a strange body position at the catch. You can tell they came from different programs with different methods of rowing.

I’m new to the sport. What do you do if you fall in? Winter time?

  • @janzumstein8241

You climb back in and if it's cold, you immediately cancel the training and go back as fast as possible to let the person who fell in warm up and change clothes. During some trainings or at races, there are motorboat following where either the coach (during training) or medical delegates (during races) are inside. They take you into the motorboat and drive you back to land.

The bigger the boat, the harder it is to flip. You need to have the full boat do something very silly for an 8 or 4 person boat to flip. Falling in while in 2 person boats is slightly more common, but still very very rare. Newer rowers may fall in if they're in a single scull (1 person), though once you've got experience you can easily go years without falling in.

If you fall in too bad. You can’t catch up, also you would need everyone to fail to fall in, very unlikely in an eight

The announcing is a bit annoying--like calling Brown University "Bruno". Just call them by their school name. Also, some of the calls are just repetitive, and in some cases, not even realistic. Yale was never going to catch Cal, but the announcer made it seem that way. If you're going to call the race, be honest, stay up to date, and be real. Also, barely anything was said about Harvard or Syracuse, despite their hard racing against each other. The announcer only seems to care about the top 3 boats, which is very poor. I hope they find someone new who can call the entire field, and let ALL the spectators from ALL the schools know what's really going on out there. There's more to than just making the easy calls for the top 3.
