You could put the saw blade inside a suitable capped pvc pipe and attach it to your knapsack if there was no other way to carry it with you! I carry an older pack saw where 3 blades fit inside the aluminum frame with a folding Inside my knapsack! One fine tooth for cutting thru bone, two others for wood! Received it as a gift from my friend when I was in my early 20’s, he since has passed!it weighs less than a pound and has lasted almost 50 years so far!

I was thinking for most people using snow shoes as a shovel is probably more realistic if caught in an emergency.

talk about food for the week. Frozen thaw it and how much fuel to get your food ready to eat. Do you always have one hot meal a day or just prepackage stuff. Thank you from Wyoming.

I think it is, in certain areas. All experienced outdoors people will have their own go-to tools that they bring along at all times. I don't think most survival situations are plane crashes etc. I think they happen when people underestimate the conditions or hurt themselves or an equipment malfunction happens. So I think quite often they happen, when you are more or less out there on purpose. :)

Snowboarders off-piste are carrying collapsible snow shovels. But you can still dig without a snow shovel, this is just a demonstration and a snow shovel makes it easier.

I'm an idiot, so I always bring a very fine coffee filter (about 3 microns), in case of emergency still water drinking. On the other hand, I too live in norway, and streams are abundant.

I use my Jerven similarly in cold dry conditions and I also use a vapour barrier depending on conditions but when the temp approaches zero and the humidity becomes a factor I had a situation where I slept in my bag inside my Jerven and I suspected the temp and humidity would be an issue so I ran a ridge line between the Jerven bag and the top of my sleeping bag forming almost a tent a couple of inches off my bag. I did this hoping the extra air flow (I left the head and foot open) would prevent moisture building up between the Jerven bags insulation and shell. Well I woke up dry and comfortable and couldn't feel any moisture but as I broke camp I hung the Jerven up and almost immediately water started pouring out of the zippers at the bottom. I estimate at least 1-2 cups of water came out and I fear a second night in that setup would have soaked my sleeping bag if I couldn't dry the Jerven. This isn't a fault of the Jerven bag and I consider my bag an essential winter camping item but it is something folks need to keep in mind. Love your set up.
