  10:37 Why does the game assume you have zero pink coins at the checkpoint if it's already been established that you retain them after dying as long as you hit the checkpoint? I've never played Mario Maker so sorry if it's a dumb question.

  you probably don’t care anymore, but whenever you create a stage, you have to clear it to publish it. from his pov at 10:37, he has to clear the stage from the checkpoint instead of the normal spawn.

  Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just hold up with Yoshi while sticking out his tongue in Super Mario Maker 1 in order to not take the POW? Doing this, should make Yoshi not crouch while sticking his tongue out.

  9:38 My guess is the developers wanted the Pink Coins to act like the Star Coins from the New Super Mario Bros. series, due to their similar functionality. Any Star Coins you grabbed before touching the checkpoint, as long as you don't clear the level or quit the level and go to another one, will be saved so you don't have to grab them again.

  6:52 Alternatively, you can press up to make Yoshi's tongue aim above the POW and it'll stay on the other side for you to grab it easier!

  Sadly, I don't have a WiiU, so I can't actually test this, but in SMW, if you hold up while you use Yoshi's tongue, he won't duck and the POW will be left untouched.

  9:20 the game works that way so that you can't make a level that's ultimately impossible from checkpoint. For example, if you make a point of no return and after that there's a key and a checkpoint both so high you can't reach those without opening a door that requires a key. So you have to collect all pink coins to get a key and to open that door and after that you reach the checkpoint and get another key and then there's a keydoor that leads to another keydoor that leads to goal, so you need two keys, but you already used other key to get to the checkpoint and the other key. So you need to start from checkpoint so that the pink coins reset and now you get two keys, one from the checkpoint and another by collecting all the pink coins, so that you can open those two doors that lead to goal. But if the pink coins would never reset once you die after collecting them all to get the key to the door that leads to checkpoint, then you couldn't beat the level from checkpoint. But you could beat the level from checkpoint when you do a clear check, because in clear check you don't have to reach the checkpoint to start from it and so there would be all the pink coins so you could get both keys without using one to the door that leads to the checkpoint. And so you could upload a level that's ultimately impossible from checkpoint if pink coins wouldn't reset once you collect them all. So that's why the pink coins reset once you collect them all and get a key.
