Great video! Is that hammer the peddimghaus Swedish Picard? If so how has the handle held up? After 3 sessions in the forge my Picard hammer head has started to come loose
Thank you! Yes, it is the Swedish pattern peddinghaus. I have had it for about ten years. The handle has cracked, but I have a wire wrap around the crack to keep it together. Periodically, I soak all of my hammers in water to keep the heads tight. I then oil them down with linseed oil to keep the wood from cracking.
Уважаемый мастер, может надо было провести закаливание металла вокруг отверстия?
A36 is mild steel. It wouldn't really harden even if it was heat treated. It's also not really needed for this application.
@@wodenphotoЯ сделал похожее приспособление для изготовления гвоздей из мягкого металла. При изготовлении гвоздей расплющил металл вокруг отверстия, когда формировал шляпку гвоздя.
It is not necessary. If you were to desire a more tough tool, then use an air hardening steel.
Nice to see you back.
Nice to be back!
Very nice job
Thanks!
Nice! Bending jig probably saves one heat for each side. Scrolling pliers to do the curlicues is easier, requires less skill.
Oh yes. If I had to make a ton of these, I would be using scrolling tongs.
Love the jig.
Thank you!
Done some nails. It's a time consuming operation! 😊
Indeed it is.
Hey everyone! I hope you like the video.
That's a lot of propane for one nail, go coal 😳
Yeah, I was lazy that day. If I make them in batches then I use a coal forge.
How is it used?
You forge a taper on an iron rod that will fit in the small square hole to the length of the nail you want. Cut off the small taper approximately 3/8" from the point where you want the length of the nail to be. Then while the iron is still hot drive down creating a head of the nail. Please see the next video in the series to see the process. Thank you for watching!
It was very interesting I enjoyed watching that and it looks like you did a very nice job thank you very much God bless
Thank you!
Oh I enjoyed watching you I would’ve liked to seen you what you do with the nail punch I’ve never seen one so I’ll be watching God bless
I will try to add that to a future video. Thank you for watching!
I watched the header video and nog this. I`m ready to make som of my own. Thanks buddy!
You're welcome! Glad you liked it.
His anvil looks too low for him. I was told that the face should be at the same height as your fist when standing upright.
Please, no music. The subject is interesting. The music is annoying.
Please check out the leather rose video and let me know what you think.
Nice project. The music was a bit much and totally necessary.
Great Video ! Merry Christmas From Canada !
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas an a Happy blessed New Year ahead. Very nice video style. Really good video. Really cool clean design. Very unique idea. This turned out very well. Hopefully the future owners really like it. Enjoy it for many years to come. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge on. Keep making. God bless.
Thank you very much. I'm very humbled. Merry Christmas!
I hope you guys like the video. Let me know if you want this style or if you prefer the other style. Merry Christmas!
Skip the music
Yeah, I wanted to do a vote but youtube won't let me yet. Some people have said they like it and some not. Personally I would rather leave it out but I was afraid it would be too boring.
I think you need a bigger vise! Nice job.
You know, I think I do!
nice video, what is the name of the tool you use to blow coal in 8:16?
I'm glad you liked the video. The tool I was using is a hand crank forge blower. This specific one is a Buffco brand made in the 1920's.
You cannot believe that you didn’t demonstrate at least one or two nails with your new header
Check out this video to see the header in use. I hope you like it! kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4eMu9d6gbOrktY.html

Nice!

Subbed mate, love the gentle background music, adds an easy feel to it!
Thank you! I wanted my videos to be relaxing.
Enjoyed your style of video. Pleasant to watch. good job!
Thank you very much!
Cool
Love your videos man. keep up the great work.
Thank you! New video coming soon!
I like your videos because you don't stop doing things while talking. And you also do it easily with common tools, which encourages me to give it a try. Keep on this path!
Thank you very much!
nice video man! love the header you made. A little advice, if you angle your hammer when you swing so the edge of the face is what hits the steel it is a much more efficient way of drawing out than hitting flat as the edge acts as a fuller or like a cross pein.
Thanks! I really wanted to go as slow as I could to show it on film. It still feels wierd filming it all.
Good! I will be your subscriber #38
Thank you!
@@davidbucklen-blacksmith5402 you welcome! And good luck!!
Nice fisher?
Yes, 300lb 1903 manufacture date.
Another great video on hand working steel, thank you.
Thank you very much!
Hey everyone! I hope you like the video. I apologize for the delay in upload time but life happens!
I like your work space, I hope to have a small garage forge to do some similar stuff. Nice vid!
Thank you very much! I am hoping to build a larger smithy some day in the future. Preferably with windows 😆
@@davidbucklen-blacksmith5402 Windows and lighting are a nice quality of life upgrade. Some day!
great video dude!
Thanks man!
Hello everyone! I hope you like the video!
Amazing!
Thank you!
Great video. nice smooth taper on those nails. Getting the heads even is the hard part.
Thanks! I really wanted to show the quick and dirty method rather than going for fancy nails.
Great looking nail header. It's big enough you could put a couple of holes for different size nails.
Thank you! That was the idea. I neglected to mention it in the video.
Great video and great looking hook. I need hooks around my new house and I'm going to try this as soon as I get my forge set back up. For a wooden mallet I just made one out of a fir 4x4 with a 1 inch dowel for a handle.
Thank you! I think I will be making a mallet at some point in the future. It really would come in handy!
Hey everyone! Thank you for watching my video. Please let me know what you want me to make next. Also, let me know if you think I should change the way I present the videos. Do you like music or no music? Do you like voice over or none? Let me know in the comments.
Soft toned music over the video works really well.
@@toma6989 Thank you! I was going for relaxing.
I've enjoyed watching the videos you have posted so far. Great work man.
Thanks Lonnie! I'm working on another as we speak.
