4Ribs Fishing

This channel is here to share fishing and boating knowledge. We fish out of Raritan Bay NJ and frequent the wrecks and reefs off the coast of Monmouth County. I also do my own boat and engine maintenance. At times you will see videos that will show you how to perform some of these tasks.

    Does the mount wobble or have free play in heavy seas? I am debating whether to use the shuttle slide, or just mount the motor directly onto the deck.

  • @4RibsFishing
    @4RibsFishingАй бұрын

    The only reason to use this mount is if you need to slide the motor further out on the rub rail. If you don't have that issue, just go direct to the deck. BTW, these motors don't work in heavy seas.

    Howdy sir. I am strongly considering this system. Are you happy with it in all aspects? If you had the ability to build something similar your self (which you may), is there anything you would change about the design? Is this system full extension? For the price, it is toeing the build vs. buy line for me. I'm interest in your feedback. Thank you in advance.

  • @4RibsFishing

    I absolutely love the 4000lb model I have. If I built it myself, I'd try to cut some height out. You lose approximately 5" with this model. It's 75% extension-which turns out is more than enough. 100% sounds good, but I don't think it's necessary to reach everything. I'm only 5'11".

    I'm just a little shocked that Yamaha couldn't design a simpler approach to replace these anodes. I can't believe they couldn't come up with a better design than putting anodes under the valve cover. I'm guessing they bank on most people not replacing these and motors lasting much shorter than a "smarter" design. Thank you so much for this very detailed video on how to DIY. I guess I will have to go look to see how often this replacement has to take place. I only have a bit over 100 hours at the moment and am in salt water about 10% of the time.

If you dont have the hose Mike uses, you can use a short pvc pipe over the piston and rest the engine on it to hold the tool.
