Nice reviews. You have great taste in music. I have also really been enjoying that Joni Mitchell boxed set. I heard Anouar Brahem's album Barzakh in a record store when it came out in 1991 and had to get it right then (on cd, of course). Have been a big fan ever since. I had pretty much the same reactions/feelings about the Joni box as you do here. Not a criticism, but you forgot to mention her great drummer, Don Alias on that record. He's more known as a percussionist, I think, but he knows how to play the kit, for sure. I've also been re-acquainting myself with The Hissing of Summer Lawns, which is up there with Blue and Hejira for me. We're so lucky to have such great music in our world. Thanks for sharing. PS: The Necks are great. I think pretty much everything they do is improvisational. Kind of like Can. Recommendations: Jessica Pratt's most recent two albums, Quiet Signs, and Here in the Pitch (she was just on Colbert!).

One time in the summer I stuck around after a show to try to meet her. She came out from the side of the stage after almost everyone had left and walked by me pushing an old Schwinn bicycle across the floor. I was too chicken to say anything, but she smiled at me. My favorite is Fox Confessor as well. I’ve been listening to Hell On lately. That one didn’t do much for me initially but sure sounds good now. Crazy good vinyl packaging too. “Country Noir” is spot on.

She was on a simple stage on a hill and it was a beautiful evening. Don’t remember what she played but it’s a vivid memory. It’s nice hearing people chime in here on their love of Neko. And maybe directing some people unfamiliar with her music to her catalogue. Cheers!

The Boatman's Call is a terrific record, but I do not own it! You may have enabled me on this one. The Roger Eno record also appeals to me.
Happy to play the role of enabler, Brian.
Glad you like the Gallagher record, Fitz. At the risk of enabling you further, Chasing Yesterday from 2015 is also good.
Dammit, Steve!
@@fitzelectricbar9268C’mon, you know you want to!
Some really fantastic finds! 2024 has been a year where I very purposefully dive deeper into jazz in general, but fusion more specifically - it's been an amazing journey.
Thanks for the comment. I’ve been exploring jazz more deeply myself these days.
If there was an actual “official” Vinyl Community, and that organization had a t-shirt - it would say “I’m an Enabler.” Was very fortunate to see The Derek Trucks band play at my university close to 25 years ago. Excellent show. Also saw Tedeschi/Trucks share a bill with The Black Crowes. Great shows. Cheers✌🏻
Tedeschi Trucks are coming to town late May. With recent high-priced tickets purchased to Robert Plant/Allison Krauss, Dead & Company at the Sphere & Neil Young & Crazy Horse I decided to leave this as a “game time” decision.
The Pant/Krauss record is phenomenal. I still haven't heard the next one they did. I should find the Matthew Sweet record. I only know a few tracks from it.
Hi Fitz! I saw several concerts at the Molson Amphitheatre in the 90s. I have a copy of that Matthew Sweet album on compact disc. Always liked it. ✌
Love that Robert Plant/Allison Krause record. Need to pick that one up on vinyl at some point. The last one they did was pretty cool too. Crazy that all those incredible musicians played on Girlfriend. Haven’t heard that record in years.
Wow! What a list. Love how The Idiot kicked the door open for you and changed everything. Those two sides of Lou Reed when both of those albums were new would have been really exciting. I remember going to a record store in 1986 and buying a BTO record because I was going to see Van Halen and they were opening. The guy behind the counter nodded his head in approval and told me that very few good bands came out of the 1970s, but that BTO was one of them. WHAT??!??
Being a “good Canadian kid” I had a soft spot for BTO. 😎
@@fitzelectricbar9268 I like them once in a while when I hear them on the radio. Took more issue that he said hardly anything good came out in the 70s.
This was great. Some iconic selections. That Neil young decade is an unreal comp. well done🤘🏼
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I enjoy your channel.
Really cool intro.
Great video and cool records featured. I love the David Live album. Critics panned it, but it has some great gems. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow is awesome.
Thanks Tom. I remembered that DB track from the last time I mentioned this record and have been enjoying ever since. Nothing like hearing a “new” track from an album you know inside and out. Cheers.
Hi Fitz! These were all good picks. Many of the records you showed came to my collection years after they were released when I ramped up buying records in high school in the mid 80s. Very entrepreneurial story of you and the bootlegs! ✌
Thanks Mike. I was also lucky as my orders were getting bigger but wasn’t caught out during the big bootleg bust in the US in the late 70’s.
Born in 59. 60's AM radio then FM low watt pioneers. I agree with 70% of your picks because they align with mine. So happy to see 2! Lou and Roxy. BOTT changed my life. Refreshing to see a solid list by a true 70's era survivor who's still rocking out to an era of music we'll never see again. We who lived it are the true experts. Glad to have grown up during that time. Wish I'd been born 6 years earlier then I would have even better stories to tell.
We are of the same era. Glad there were some albums you could relate to. Thanks for watching and for your comments.
Man, this would be tough to do, which is why I haven't done it! I do love those Lou Reed record, but I did't hear them until well after you did. Same with Eno and Roxy and Neil Young and Dylan! Joy Division is a personal fav of mine, and I got a copy in about 1984, so a bit after the fact. Interesting video 🙂
Thanks Brian. Yeah, this one took more time to prepare but definitely a labour of love. The hardest part is accepting that there will be records that I should have put on the list but didn’t make it, or were overlooked. Those are the ones that haunt me. 😎
What a great label Fitz! I have many, such cheeky beggars 😁.
Nice video and nice anecdotes. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting.
Keep up the great work Fitz!
@@pauls.o.barbeau966 why thank you, Paul.
Great story Fitz.
What a wild night! When you mentioned after hours "speakeasys" I immediately recalled what we called "booze cans" when I lived in Toronto for a couple of years in the early 90s. I saw Siouxsie in /89 in Montreal and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I loved your story in this video, and it's so great you still have those ticket stubs!
Cheers Mike. I hit a few booze cans in TO as well but nothing compared to that NYC experience.
Hey Fitz, what a fantastic night. I’ve seen a few memorable shows in NY as well. Saw Patti Smith on New Years Eve at CBGBs in ‘77, amazing. More recently, I took my sons to NY to see Steely Dan at the Beacon Theatre for my youngest’s 21st birthday in 2012 I believe. TO is just a village compared to NY. I got rid of my ticket stubs many years ago. Hope to see more of this series. Cheers.
Wow, your concert history is second to none. That must have been an amazing night! I saw King Crimson and PJ Harvey on the same weekend, so that was pretty awesome.
That is a good weekend!
Thanks so much for mentioning me, Fitz! And then to go on to talk about one of my favorite artists? Damn. Yeah, I love Neko. Seen her live several times.
It’s my pleasure to shout out the channels I really enjoy and, no secret, you are one of my faves. I’ve also seen Neko Case live a few times, twice in Seattle, in fact. Once at the Paramount opening for Nick Cave (and the Dirty 3, I believe. Definitely not The Bad Seeds) and they sang a duet. I also saw her towards the end of her set at Bumbershoot. She was on a simple stage on a hill and it was a beautiful evening. Don’t remember what she played but it’s a vivid memory. It’s nice hearing people chime in here on their love of Neko. And maybe directing some people unfamiliar with her music to her catalogue. Cheers!
Loved that Tweedy book. Probably my favorite of his. I want to do a video on it at some point. Thanks for sharing your stories. I love Berlin but almost forget about it. This is a good reminder. I like the late 70s Kinks records as well. I’m like you…oldest of three. Had to discover music on my own. Made sure my sisters didn’t have to, often at their annoyance.
Hehe! Yes, it’s a big responsibility as the oldest to make sure the youngest don’t fall into the wrong music influences. The job never ends.
Hey Fitz, thanks for taking the time and the great entry. I’m a long time sub to Brian and the east coast boys channels, and I just subbed Todd’s channel. I’m going to stream Neko tonight, exactly the type of artist I hoped would get some exposure. Would love to get together some time when I get over to Vancouver. Your name goes in the hat my friend. Cheers.
Cheers, Jack. I’d enjoy getting together. Let me know when you come to Van and we’ll do some record shopping and music talking.
@@fitzelectricbar9268 Will do Fitz.
Hey Fitz! I don't think I have ever heard Neko Case, but you have made a good case for her. I'll have to check out some of her albums. I do love Richard Hawley! Good luck!
Cheers, Steve. Would be curious what you think. You’ve got broad tastes (pun unintended, sorry Neko) so might be of interest.
Thanks for the shoutout Fitz. Much appreciated. Love Neko Case too, as well as the New Pornographers.
