Absolute madness that they were trying to remove a couple thousand passengers and crew by helicopter, a few people at a time. If they had not restarted an engine and kept the ship off those rocks it would have been the Titanic all over again, except for the relative ease of recovering the bodies after the storm. What is the big attraction of joining others in passing around diseases in close quarters, anyway?

This is not the fully story. Nothing is mentioned of the company operating the ship with bare minimums as required for oil in the engines, their pressure on the captain to keep to the schedule so they sailed in bad weather. Nothing is covered as to how the rolling and bad weather caused the oil levels to rock and eventually knock out the engines due to low oil levels, leaving the ship with no power. Nothing goes into how they dropped anchor to at least hold the ship from being pushed ashore and into the rocks. Just a useless set of videos gathered from other sites.

So the mains were starved of oil due to free surface effect ? It’s hard to believe they didn’t have the oil in the mains pressed up, major fail by engineering. Kudos for evacuating before it became a real disaster!
@walterengler5709 Жыл бұрын
@@justgotohm4775 According to stories I have read the oil was a minimum required levels to go to sea. Not topped up of full. Not halfway between minimum and full. Just barely minimum. And that level seems to be insufficient for the level of rolling they hit in the voyage. Yep I find it hard to believe the minimum levels do not account for essentially sloshing of oil up and down starving the intakes of oil, which to me is a major engineering design flaw. But I've found no more information on if these requirements have been adjusted now, to allow for rough seas. Or maybe an emergency pump system added. Many ways to solve. But it seems so stupid to almost lose a ship due to low oil levels.

Cruise Adventures? Cruise nightmares. How about the news today about the rogue wave hitting the Viking Polaris sailing at the cape of South Africa and smashing windows and killing one 62 year old passenger. I am angered at the fact that the glass used wasn't thick enough to withstand a wave. 😡 Apparently they didn't don't care. Apparently not safe to stay on a lower deck. 😬
