I am old. When I was young and fearless and a American soldier in Germany, I went about chattering in "G.I. German" without a hint of embarrassment. I could collect my laundry, deal with waiters, etc., with no problems. (Maybe the Germans had picked up a little "G.I. German," and, unlike the French, they didn't seem to be fussy about it.). Now, I am interested in picking up some languages concentrating mostly on French. After this lesson in quick and "easy" German, I officially abandon it. I will confine myself to a few German words like "Weltanschauung," (worldview) and a few politeness words, which I find useful. Anyway, if traveling, I will rely on English, which is widely understood in Germany and not resented, as far as I ever detected. (With my G.I. German, I didn't even know the various "you's." But I did know fragments like "haben sie" and "sprechen sie," which combined nicely with a few common nouns. I couldn't conjugate the verb "to be" but it just came out as needed, crudely but almost fluently. The articles just seemed to fall into place. One complete sentence that was popular with us although I am extremely skeptical of anyone ever actually trying it out was: Kommen sie hier, bitte Fräulein, mit der Hosen in der hand. One that ~was~always serviceable was: Noch ein Bier bitte.)

Being a new learner I like English first Slow spanish Regular speaking spanish last. ( it sets my attention to listen intently to reg. Speech last) I'm sure more advanced would find if boring. But slow is important to hear it correctly and I can speak with it to get it right) Amazing it takes the headache out of it for new learners. Thank you so much.

I prefer when you speak it slowly first then you repeat it at the proper speed. if you could say it twice at the proper speed. It gives our brain a chance to say it correctly when we hear it twice! I am a beginner, it takes us time to repeat!! Thanks!

  • @SusanTheRealtor

My recommendation, you say it the first time, slowly, then you say it the way it is spoken. If you could repeat it again, at the correct speed, It gives a beginners BRAIN A CHANCE, to also see what they are saying while repeating it again, before you go on to the next sentence. You end up going to the next sentence without me even understanding what I was saying, I had no time to even read what it was in English. It would be awesome if it also repeats 2 times at the correct speed. Only doing it once correctly in the correct speed and then you are going onto another sentence, for me, is frustrating. No time to grasp…. I’m a beginner.. Anyway, Thanks for the video! 😊

Thanks for your recommendation Susan. I completely understand what you're saying. And we wanted to create a video that would be a good fit for most people. But in our full program, you can actually choose between multiple playback settings including the exact settings that you mentioned here. You can also control the time between each reply if you need more time to analyse things. Or even have the English played out loud. I hope this helps! Have fun learning this beautiful language!

@Ouinolanguages The english first is an excellent idea ! As a personal preference, I would like the English-Slow-Fast setup tho, since sometimes the fast is a bit too fast and some words "fly over my head". Having it in English first tells me what to look for, then slow part would give me enough time to "sort it out", so then when the natural speed comes, I already know what the sentence means, I already heard the words slowly and clearly beforehand, so it makes it a lot easier to figure out. Having the slow after english would feel like I have an "extra chance" to understand the natural speed after. In any case, great job ! I listen to it on the bus when I go to work and when I'm off, I listen to it when I go walk at the track. Love your work ! 👍
