Thx ugit 1st and w/o lots of smoke. Been playing since73. I asked ny knowledge interest in ausdi music. Gitta say paul kelly:s 1st grabbed me right iff. I started in punk snd he was sort of edgy then. I fillowed then til now. Other bands inxs got play midnight oiland itjers but paul igot sll albums and cds for years.i heard keh shan say 3 years ago. Just grwbbed me the music, delivery and subject matter.i was 2 or 3 years from draft. Born in berkeley butalso knew many vets.it described a vets experience. I had to go cold turkey but not from nam. It was like 1st person history in a song. Just brilliant.re vietnam now interesting and poingnent. Aussia seened tonhave the same basic infkuences as i did rock blues country etc. somehow a unique mix if them like british vs american vs Irish. I worked in idnia for years made lots of SEeAsiacstops. Never vietnam. Here have known many gron north and south .some songs just capture a generation.again thx

Well done, thank you for going to all this effort 👍
My pleasure!
Thanks, You just put this song in the on-deck of My songs. I do appreciate You adding the stuff that makes it sound great.
Thanks!
Sooooo cool! Excellent and very well explained... Great musician "maestro".
Thank you very much!
This is certainly the best tutorial of the song on the internet! Thank you for posting!!
Ah, thank you so much Adam! Much appreciated.
Awesome. Thanks. Intro is very cool.
TIMBRE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👌. Amazing guitarist!
Thank you!
do you still plan on making a guitar tutorial for army dreamers by kate bush?
I do, but my to-do list is quite long, and it takes a fair bit of time and work to learn the song, rehearse it, write the chart, film the lesson, then edit it. So it may take a while, but I do intend to get to it! Thanks.
@@OneChartguitarlessons okay! no rush! thanks for answering :)
Great Song that forces you to take on "C" and "F" without plain practice. I just basic strum at the moment but still sounds like your making music!!!!
My Journey starts with you, I've had a guitar and randomly picked it up with no direction for years. Now I get up early each morning, installing a habit of at least practicing for 1/2 hour each morning and progress from your teaching is next level!!! I'm sticking to basics and progressing as you suggest. When I can accross C Major it was difficult and I wondered how my fingers could play it clean. Now thats no problem and I'm up to B7. Thankyou!!!!
I am so happy, and honoured that my lessons are helping you! Thanks for letting me know. It's so great to hear. Please keep me informed of your progress! Can I use your quote anonymously on my website please? I love it.
Absolutely
Thanks!
Cool Lesson & Song Thanks Boss.. I'll probably stoke it up a bit; and go with the "Animals" version ? But then again? how can you not love Sam Cooke??
I don't think I've heard it but I'll check it out!
It's not bad but I prefer Sam's. Interesting how the Animals' version really leans on that 7th chord the 2nd time they hit the C in the verses. I like it. In Sam's version I think it's only the vocals that hit that 7th (Bb) note. Interesting difference...
@@OneChartguitarlessons Yeah Boss. I see your point.. I think maybe it might just boil down to which version hits higher on someone's personal nostalgia meter? LOL
Thanks for the free guitar tabs and guitar lesson. Peter Gabriel FTW!
First time I’ve seen your channel.like the tabs.well done
Thanks!
excellent!

Love this video. Have a question for you mate. @20:42 , those 3 notes ( E. F# & G) where you do a quick phrase with them. When you play that at song speed, do you pick every note or do you hammer on a bit, since its so fast?
Thanks Michael. If they're the notes I think you're talking about (the notes at 20:02 maybe? not 20:42? The notes at 20:42 are C, G, and D) then probably a better picker than me would pick them all. However I would tend to pull and hammer them, but only because it's easier. the tradeoff is you have to make sure your hammers and pulls are strong enough to keep the notes loud and even, which is a challenge in itself. I've never really been a speed picker: I've always preferred the legato approach and lean towards hammering and pulling off the notes. Hope that helps, mate!
@@OneChartguitarlessons sorry my mistake, yes it was 20:02 notes . Thx for the response and explanation
Fantastic! Thanks so much. Any chance you could do Teach Me How to Fly by Jeff St John?
I'll check it out!
Honestly iv been teying to play guitar for a few years now and most lessons on you tube i find very confusing but finally i have found someone who explain everything so well love your tutorials thank you i feel now im getting somewere ill share you lessons on social media😊
That is the best kind of comment to receive! thank you. Makes me really happy to think I've helped you move forward. Thanks so much, and yes please! Share away!
Thank you for the lesson ! I'm having trouble moving from Gmaj7 to G6 does anyone have tips ?
Leave your pinky planted when moving from GM7 to G6, and move the other three fingers. Concentrate on going back and forth between these two chord shapes only, without any timing. Just get the transition smooth. Then add timing. And don't give up!
@@OneChartguitarlessonsI've been practicing this the whole day, it really helped thank you !
@austinematurure1512 love to hear it!
Just came across your channel. I’m from the States but have always loved Australian and New Zealand artists. I’ve seen Crowded House 4 times with the late Paul Hester. The band never has been the same without them. INXS, Midnight Oil,Men At Work,Icehouse, Boom Crash Opera, Split Enz, AC-DC,Bee Gees ….. to name a few. We always talk about the British Invasion in the United States but for me the Australian Invasion did it for me. Such great and unique music from your country. Love Recurring Dream, excellent and obscure choice. Love your lessons. Thank you!
Check out Cold Chisel Swingshift for another great Aussie album.
Thanks so much! Yep, you've named some favourite bands there, for sure. Good to hear they are known o/s
And "East", and "Circus Animals"!
Awesome lesson cobber! Thanks so much. Any chance of a lesson on Last of The Riverboats by Stars, written by Andy Durant?
I'll check it out!
I’ve been working on this song for years and thought I was pretty close, but then you pointed out that funky double-slide he does on the A and E strings during the first part of the break (between the C7 slide and final G7 slide). You’re right! I missed that part. Only problem is that it’s bloody hard to play! This is one of the most challenging songs I’ve ever tried to learn on guitar and very different from other challenging guitar pieces in the skills it requires. You did an amazing and patient job of breaking this down. Thanks so much for tackling it and for teaching me something I had been missing!
Ha! You're welcome. And yes, it is challenging to play it accurately. I find it most helpful to concentrate on the groove and add the fills after that, because for me this song is all about the groove. I think it's so much better than the album version.
Very nice lesson mate. Deserves more comments.
Thanks mate. Hopefully in time the channel will grow!
Like the way you played it mate. Nice phrasing options
Thank you kindly!
Thank you, you sound great. Just wondering why you say in the description the chart is free but you charge on your site?
Thanks. That's an outdated description, as I've had to start charging for some of my charts. Thanks for pointing it out, though; I've edited the description. And if you ever need one of my charts that has a fee on it, remind me of this comment and I'll send it to you for free! Cheers, Matt.
A really great guitar lesson… Thanks very much
My pleasure!
Really good help mate thanks
No problem 👍
I heard the opening riff in a movie that was made a long time before this song & instantly thought that this must be where Slash "subconsciously" got it from. I can't remember the movie though. Anyone else heard it before?
wow loved this video, so clear and entertaining!
Thanks so much!
I was listening to the Paul McDermott cover of this today!!
Great lesson. Really inspiring and achievable Thanks
Glad to hear that!
This is, hands down, the best tutorial of this song on the internet! I’m working on it & will be playing soon.
Perfect tutorial and love ur cat 😻 ♡♡
Thank you! Cheers! He's a character (but a little shy on screen...)
Hey, would you by any chance consider looking at The Place To Be - The Scarlet Opera
I will have a listen!
No most of them and seen most of them …. But never saw cold chisel .. dammit
what kind of sound effects ????
Typically he just uses compression and a delay.
