Brillant that you showed the end result. Oh wait..... you didn't!
These guys are top notch 👌 I imagine they are in their 80 by now
So, what to do if the plastic is moist?
Buy or rent a dehumidifier large enough to dry a basement of your size.Should be ratings on the dehumidifier for that. As you do this the floor moisture will migrate into the dry air and eventually be dry enough to paint. Then use a sealer-type paint that prevents moisture/radon from entering the basement. Have fun!
Can I ask, so if you do have a moisture issue, does that mean you just have to give up and you can never have a painted floor? Are there any solutions? (I expect them to be expensive I bet...)
Now that is a real radio voice. Wow
I enjoyed the video. FYI: porous not pourous ;-)

So if the plastic does show some moisture does that mean you shouldn't paint? Or could you bring in a dehumidifier
Hey Bob!
I have an existing epoxy floor, but I would like to change the color. Do I have to remove the old color entirely?
Sadly PPG stopped these educating videos, I don't really use their products; but watching them make me think about giving them a chance.
this video is useless. look at the comments below.
Technically, a surprisingly incomplete video. Then again, they're trying to sell stuff, not answer questions.
bingo!
Hi, my home was built in the 40's. It's very uneven. Is there anything I can do about this?
Try using a handful of 3 ton floor jacks and place them under the parts of the house which are sagging. One by one, slowly start to raise the floor jack in order to bring that section of the house to your desired level. I'd recommend using at least a 4 foot level to make sure it is actually level.

Can it be cold out to do the plastic sheet test?
Of course the concrete you guys are working with is already rough and ready to be painted... how convenient.
I've watched a ton (at least 50 or 60) of these videos because I'm about to paint my garage floor and just want to make sure I don't "F" it up...LOL... By far this had been the most informative video I'd seen so far. Great Informative Video!!! Thanks Guys!
Agreed!
Do I clean the floor with just water??
Question please. If there is moisture in concrete what will be the corrective measure to apply coat?
I am disappointed no one has answered your question
@@kymberlydawn1445I'd recommend a dehumidifier sized for the cubic ft. of your basement. As the air dries the moisture in the floor will migrate into the air and eventually you will have a floor ready to paint. Good luck.
What do you do if the floor IS causing condensation? Is there a paint for floors to keep down moisture?
Why didnt you reply??? PPG
@@waltertunk2964 call the company and ask, why would a paint company pay someone to answer KZread comments?
My garage floor has a sealer. Grinding will take it all off before I use an epoxy?
I live in Florida. Do I need a concrete sealant (that gets down into the concrete) to avoid moisture issues? Or should I use a brush-on primer/sealer such as those made by Killz?
I was waiting for the finished product...really???
Well, I just decided not to paint my garage floor :(
Excalibur Head me too. Is there any garage floor that doesn't get moisture? Most are poured slab on-grade so contact with the earth, which has moisture. Mine sweats during the rain. I think the plastic under mine(if the contractor even used it) is not there anymore. I think I'll just clean it with a good degreaser and some elbow grease. It's a garage.
Great sound and content. Why so many down votes?
My guess? They don't bother answering all the questions about solving the moisture problem.
Recommends using 3M tape. Actually used Scotch brand tape...

Looked like they were priming or staining the deck white at the end of the video.
Did Bob Johnson use to work for or a project director at Whitehouse and son's Painting ?
I have a question; it might be a silly question, but do I need to shut off the boiler pilot to paint my basement floor?
I primed my concrete floor first with a good quality primer, then used a light gray concrete floor paint. 2 coats and it hasn’t chipped yet in 4 years
I thought Steven Avery was banged up
This is excellent information. Thank You.
When I bought my house, it came with a clear epoxy-coated garage floor. This garage floor is slippery as hell in the winter time or when it rains. I want to re-coat it with a gray coating with grit mixed into it. My question is - what prep work do I need to do to make the clear-coated epoxy floor ready to accept the new coating?
Bob Reed mechanically grind off the old epoxy. Unless you can see the grinder marks on the floor, there’s no way to tell whether the slab was prepped properly. Grind it down to bare concrete, fill any cracks/holes, clean slab very well by vacuuming and blowing, then install your coating
you can also scuff it, then add MORE EPOXY mixed with sand....do a test area, because epoxy doesnt always stick to itself.... Michael cervantes has some excellent advise, but not all homeowners are willing to go that far....i would grind it all off, if there were some serious slab problems, but I have had success with epoxy -to- epoxy coats....painter for 35 years!!
What's the point of painting the basement floor?
It looks nicer, brightens the room.
A good epoxy resin could make your floor look great and seal the concrete in addition
I recognize the Breakthrough right away
How about a primer?
Anyone else bugged that they never show the floor completed?
No, can't say it bothers me. I heard all I need to know... don't need a visual example.
@@dannydougin3925 i appreciate visuals
finished product???
doesn't diamond grinding close the pores in concrete...
Epoxy paint will usually always fail because it's a cheap water based product. Notice he always references "PAINT" Especially under your hot tires. True 100% solids epoxy is the only you to go. And one that is capable of holding back high amounts of moisture vapor emissions (MVE). In the long run, you'll be much happier hiring a pro, not a painter, but a pro who only focuses on epoxy garage flooring. These will typically come with a lifetime adhesion warranty. You get what you pay for.
What product do you recommend?
Nice!!....your right, epoxys are different today then when I first started paint contracting...I am a fan of water- base stuff, but i still use oil base for decks, primering and metal....by the way, i have yet to see a water-base product last on an outdoor deck for more than 2 years!!
Great video guys ! One of the best. I have one question for you. Someone started applying some H&C floor paint on new interior concrete. How can I remove this H&C concrete paint? My email is: [email protected]
The best way is to grind it off. The pros will use whats called a diamond grinder.
Thank You Jeff for your reply. I have had 20 contractors take a look at the floors in these two rooms which were partially painted and they all shook their head and said that the only option was to put tile ir wood over it. This is a guest house which will have heavy traffic.
I have a spot on my floor that stays wet. How do you dry it and keep it dry long enough to seal it.
what if the floor is rough? I've tried to clean it but its different to brush. I wonder if I need to sand it down before applying sealant.
can I put sticky tiles on it after its dried?
This is the worst Beyonce music video ever.
It's not about the music. I found the video extremely good. Thanks.
@@kazan0217 Right over your head...
When you scrub the area with water and a broom and you can't rise it with a hose, how do you get the acid wash/degreaser off?
shop vac
I don’t know about the degreaser, but the concrete itself neutralizes the acid. Concrete is very alkaline, which is why the acid attacks it. In the process of doing so, the acid is neutralized.
I want Don Henley to paint my basement floor.
Agree he can do my floor and wall when finished with yours...
