Hi - I'm Graeme and this channel documents my adventures in fishkeeping. I've been a hobbyist for many years and while my favourite fish is the Discus I've kept loads of different and interesting fish. Hopefully you'll find some info and advice on not only Discus here, but other freshwater and marine fish too - having made most of the mistakes out there while I was a 'newbie' I wanted to pool my experiences and those of some experts to help other new people avoid the same pitfalls.

Me and my partner watched this and are now buying all of the stuff to make our own for our fluval shaker 345! We didn't even know this was a thing, We then ordered some of your food because we wanted to support you and try your product, We love watching your videos and we think you are the most informative fishy person on here, My partner said he'd emailed you today asking you to make a video about silver dollars which was going to be my next question but he beat me to it😂, we have 3 silver dollars which are around 6" each, and 3, 3 spot which are tiny babies, all of them love eating live plants (and fake ones apparently) Seems you can't have anything when you have SD 😅 Keep being you, we love the channel, videos and fish room and can't wait to see what videos you have to offer next!
Im gonna need plants soon
more stock coming in Thursday!
@@AquariumAdventures pink ones
Oh jeez. I feel like I might have just had a glimpse into the future when my little one is desperate for the pink gravel too..... I have a little bit of time to work out a battle plan thankfully! Loved the way you tried to reason and hide your disappointment in a way that only a dad could do! 😂
I don’t know if it’s available to you but I use rose quartz in my tanks as an accent. I am guilty, I like pink too! lol
This is how people make backgrounds for vivariums.
very cool! you could even mold some pockets for holding soil/plants... turned out great... she's gonna get her way, mine does lol
does she like "rose quartz"? small bits of pink "sparkle" instead of pink gravel.
As a father of a pink obsessed 13 year old daughter……..the second I saw your hand over her eyes I knew how this was going to end! 😂😂😂😂😂 Great job G! Have you folded and added some pink gravel yet? 😂😂😂😂
Yep - will be pink-ifying it this weekend!
I've found that actually increasing/balancing fertilisers (and flow) in my tank has helped get rid of cyano, it takes a couple weeks (at least) but it's worked in 3 of my planted tanks, you can usually tell when it's dying off because it clumps together and turns almost black and has a "dry" look to it, at which point I usually siphon it out, although I have left it before and it has slowly disappeared...
I would never do pink! . . . only fuchsia, mauve or magenta. Maybe change it up to duck-egg teal if I was feeling a little jaunty. Or nope
Maybe they got rid of barrel because it was leaky 😂
It's her tank, let her pink it up!
Exactly what I thought.
very cool !
What were you thinking man? That adorable daughter of yours loves and must have some pink!! 😄 It turned out great in my opinion! I bought the stuff to make that type of background when I saw StephenP2003's post and still have yet to make one 🤦♀️
Well done! I like the dark style in the background. She'll outgrow the pink... One day. I did a video a few months ago overhauling my daughter's tank as she narrated. We went from unicorns and galaxy background to plants and wood with a few touches of "girly"!
Lol! Very nice looking tank. I personally would not add any colored gravel.....However, at her age i still did some tanks with puke gravel. I had one that had turquoise and dark blue mix. A black and purple one. However the year i turned 14, i went to all natural looking tanks so she may come around and if she just sprinkles the pink in here and there it will be simple to remove it (or just push it down under the sand). But i love that you are letting her decide.
I have been using multiple Aquael pat mini filters for a couple of years now they work and are shrip and fry safe.
You should definitely make a lid out of lexan for her for the old tank... If it's still something she'll use
It actually looks pretty good Now paint it pink! 😂
Who on earth makes a scape without pink? Up your game mate! 🤣
It seems so obvious now!😂
Lol, awesome background, but failed attempt, as your daughter still wants pink gravel hahaha
Very cool!!!🤠💪👽
MUST... BE... PINK! 😅
Nice . . . But its not Pink
Yeah but it's not pink 🤣
I guess I need to invest in some pink spray paint!
@@AquariumAdventures 🤣 been there spend ages pouring love into a project , big reveal . . . But it's not xyz 🤣🤣🤣

Just sprinkle a little pink gravel on top. I bet it would really pop and satisfy her. Great build. If I may, check out the black magic craft channel. Nothing to do with aquariums but he teaches methods of making realistic terrain that would take a project like this to the next level. Talking no skill, super easy tricks, like dry brushing. Great video!

Nowt like a 2nd hand item to make a man smile 🙏🌈💚🦐
Well I have a 260l with 4 Discus and do 20l wather change every few days to clean the bottom glass ( I keep them clearbottom ) also i have snails, ottos and 2 long fin pleco as cleanup
What a wonderfully pleasant person you are. Thanks for the video.
I already have solar on my house, so I find myself questioning building a separate solar system for just the pond pump. Do you think having the pump only run during the day, like with a timer that only runs the pump when the suns up. Would that hurt the filters beneficial bacteria?
Haha seconds after I posted this question you answered it for me in your video. Wait till the video is over before you ask a question, lesson learned.
I have way to many goldfish in my small pond as they breed like crazy. Have been using a minnow trap but only get a few at a time and need to get many more out. A couple young frogs showed up 7 weeks ago helping with the smaller ones and they are fun to watch hunt.
Is your siphon connected to a pump? I'm intrigued!! :)
Of just give them to a pet store mystery snails are a lovely pet 😢
"Undiscriminately" - now you're just making $hite up
@@FishCow yep, that was a low point from me. Sorry.

Hello from the replay crew, Maryland USA 😊
Phosphates is what causes it in my experience too. I also tried All The Things suggested by folks on the internet and nothing ever worked. I twigged onto phosphates when I read someone talking about how algae is not a light issue but a nutrient issue. Read what nutrients can trigger cyano and low and behold, phosphate. Annoyingly my tap water always has too much phosphate so something I've come to live with by minimising as much as possible and having heavy planted aquariums (or refugiums).
Did the floor mats work on the walls? Keep the heat in
ugh that stuffs god awful! I think this evil might be creeping into one of our aquariums right now but im still in the denial phase ...so its not happening........but will refer back to this video if it happens, which it wont (denial)
Blue Exit has been my go to for any odd outbreaks of Blue Green algae. Has worked well for me every time
I love the purple on the puffer it sure pops 🤞crossed on the Cyanobacteria 👍👍
