    Great review! I own a CMA 10 2-DLC that Buzzy Beck restored. I love the historical significance of Buzzy bringing my mixer back to life. Knowing he was there then and still pouring his heart and soul into them one rebuild at a time means the world to me. And of course the sound is amazing!

    I have bought the exact 08M. I tell you the worst part first: The Needles awTF they broke after 2months of home use. Sound quality almost garbage compared them with the cheapest Ortofon MIX series. Definitely not worth the 500$ including VAT. This guy is another undercover advertiser… You want more BASS wtf use you mixer Eq or if you aren’t a DJ the pre amp. Anyway guess how much I have to pay for 2x Taruya 08M replacement stylus’s? Around 280$ without E.U Imports Taxes… by the way I didn’t use them for Scratching. I mixed my Techno records for not even 100 Hours of spinning and back cueing At Home! The good part: I like the handles better handling in comparison with Concorde series from Ortofon. But yeah my Club Series needles have more than 1 year used them at the party’s and they sound just perfect stylus pressure still holds good at 3.5g after all this time. So my advice is to Stay away, don’t buy Crap! Unless you receive them for free or you’re a Millionaire the. Enjoy.

  • @BernsAddiction
    @BernsAddictionАй бұрын

    Sorry to hear about your experience - I don’t think they work well with techno or house personally. The gain is too high and does not do well with kick drums. They also aren’t built for aggressive back cueing. I prefer Ortofon for house / techno. They do sound great for jazz, soul, disco and live music. They definitely are not a good all-around needle and I agree Taruya does not really explain this on their marketing or product description.

    A friend of mine brought a regular taruya black (not 08M) to one of my events. We were using a full range club PA system (pair of tops, pair of subs & pair of monitors). The taruya’s are definitely more sensitive to subwoofer rumbles & feedback creeps in quite easily. So you have to be extra cautious when setting these needles for DJ events. Just like in the video, these needles are super loud. So watch your Master & Trim levels on the DJ mixer. I’d still prefer the Ortofon for playing at DJ events. I’d imagine the Taruya’s would sound lovely in a listening bar or a hi-fi home DJ setup with vintage speakers

  • @BernsAddiction

    Totally agree - these are great for home or hifi bar use but would be very careful to use them at clubs or events with a full PA

    Somewhat - it would be nice to not have to switch between line and phono when using CDJs and turntables but my budget wouldn’t allow it at the time to go 4V! The last few units are selling fast so grab one now if you can :-)

    Is Same Like Stanton ds4. Check it out

  • @djivan831
    @djivan8313 ай бұрын

    Taruya’s design was a straight knock off from Stanton’s Trackmaster carts from the 90’s in terms of design. I’m still a fan of the original Ortofon DJ E’s & or Nightclub E’s vs the MK2 models. I’m sure there was a bit of improvement vs the original models, but not quite sure to what extent. Taruya’s are awfully loud for my taste personally & I feel they loose dynamics for such loud emphasis on output imo.

    Nice video. Subscribed! Yes, I am no Grand Master Flash (showing my age...), but I am a big advocate of a cross fader. Glad they upgraded to an Innofader. I hear you on the debate of gains / no gains, as traditional rotaries have gain built into the channel faders. I think it allows just a bit more nuance than just treating a rotary pot like an upfader. The feature set here IS hard to beat though, especially for those newer to the game who don't have much old school experience.

    i must have watched the same 2-3 videos here on youtube that actually feature a valve (mk2) about 20 times before buying one. so thanks a lot for contributing another! new press and reviews about these new models are sorely lacking. agree with your general overview. for me, personally, these mk2 valves are a top-tier 'at home' mixer and a great club option by any measure. whilst the 'true' rotary fans and audiophiles might prefer the 's-tier' of isonoe, condesa, alpha recs, etc., for me the added 3 features you mention are just that much more valuable, in day-to-day at home mixing, and when mixing in various styles across my entire record collection. the mixer itself sounds fantastic, too: very much a-tier, in my view, 90% as good as the mastering-grade, fully-discrete options above it. it REALLY all comes down to those extra features: imo the valve mk2's are the best all-in-one option in the rotary game thus far, particularly so if you get the linear PSU (and FX unit, too). it's not quite my end-game mixer and the last one i'll buy for life ... e.g. i'd really love a resor or an isonoe ... but it's also the fact that using one of those notionally 'end-game' rotaries normally involves letting go of useful features in exchange for 'that' sound, such as filters, an FX system, a cross-fader, etc. for me, being able to play with a high-pass filter or cross-fader at home is far more important than having the truly best-of-the-best sound; the fixation in rotary circles on pure audio quality somewhat misses the point that, for most, they won't have the included club system or high-end hi-fi to even take advantage of the difference. though i can see why a club owner or promoter might care about the difference when putting together their ideal booth! all in all these are superb mixers and anyone should be happy with one! any buying decision for a rotary mixer will surely come down heavily to personal preferences over things like the isolator's character, the design and layout, any preferred sound or coloration, the price/delivery time/service location (not a trivial consideration if you're looking at a 6 month wait time and the only service centre being a 3 month international freight trip away).

  • @BernsAddiction
    @BernsAddiction Жыл бұрын

    Totally agree with your summary here as well - this mixer gives you a lot for your investment without having to “sacrifice” much in terms of sound quality (if at all!)

  • @mikedubz5576
    @mikedubz55769 ай бұрын

    I agree as a urei 1620 with custom linear power supply And a xone V6 Among other xone mixers. I have to agree that the isonoe, ressor 2533fx or ars 9100b are in them selfs awesome but the mastersounds give you such a clean sound and the sculpting ability you get with the filter per channel is so greaton the radius line and on the VALVE line Even more because it now has filter that mid way engages the resonance like the xone 62 /92/96 but also can boost or cut frequencies like on a playdifferently model 1. Only thing Missing now is to incorporate a low pass filter per channel. High pass and low pass filter per channel would be killer i tell you. It is what i had custom made for my urei 1620le. Ahhhh and Last! I think the radius line of mixers deserve an upgrade with volume led meters per channel like the big brother V2 V4 line of mixers have! Why you favoring one ofer the other. Id rather buy a radius ful set Than a V4 set but those led bother me that do not exist so im forced to get the V4 only because im bothered. Anyway.

  • @RobAlahn

    Awesome review. I’m curious what if any reason/s you had in buying the 2 channel instead of the 4 channel?

  • @aaroninky
    @aaroninky27 күн бұрын

    @@RobAlahn if that was directed at me: simply because it was for my home setup, and i only have two vinyl turntables. even if i added 2 CDJs (which aren't worth the money for at home, imo; i keep to DVS for digital dj'ing), i would just switch between phono and line inputs on the 2 channels. i rarely ever need 3/4 deck mixing when i'm just playing at home. not worth the extra expense, to me personally. would rather get the linear power supply or the FX unit - you'd get much more practical use out of those than with two extra channels sitting silent for 95% of the time. if you're playing jeff mills @ liquid rooms 3/4 deck blends a lot in your own mixing style, then the 4 channel definitely makes sense, however!

    Thanks for the review! Re your cueing issues, with this mixer unity gain for the channel volumes is all the way clockwise (as opposed to mixers w/o a trim). From the manual: "The rotary ranges from fully off when anti-clockwise to unity gain (0dB) when clockwise. For best performance operate these controls near to their fully clockwise position for normal music level."

  • @BernsAddiction
    @BernsAddiction Жыл бұрын

    Thanks Adrian! As I've played more with the mixer I've realized this is definitely the case - I still prefer stopping around ~4pm - 5pm position for mixing as it feels slightly unnatural / not ergonomic for to me to fully rotate the channel gains although I realize that produces the best sound with this mixer

  • @rumscheid303
    @rumscheid3035 ай бұрын

    Just got my four valve mk 2 and was running the channel fader up to 2 oclock (as I was used to) and was sooo surprised by this behaviour, that I actually thought my cue / add mix unit was faulty. Checking the manuel and driving the faders all the way up was a big aha moment for me. Another thing which I was wondering though: If I have a track up and running on lets say channel 2, turn add mix fully on and then hit cue on the up and running channel 2, the sounds then sounds kind of muddy / filtered (while at the same time the vu meter is jumping up). Is it the same behaviour with your units? I guess it's somehow "layering" the cue signal of the channel on top of the "master/add mix" signal, leading to some kind of overdrive which is then internally limited which in turn sounds filtered or something.. Obvsly while mixing "normaly" you would not hit the cue button of the running track while adding mix from another channel via cue; but still, there are some funky behaviours when hitting multiple cue buttons while having add mix turned all the way up (volume/sound shenanigans..) maybe someone can confirm it's normal and not down to my unit :)..
