U.S. wanted to purchase the southwest territory prior to the Mexican War, but Mexico refused to sell. So the U.S. started a war, defeated Mexico, and later paid Mexico for the seized territory anyway.
Duh.
Some they did not make it in hollywood so now they going back home
The geography is great, the weather is almost always comfortable (SoCal especially). Geographically, greater LA is missing one thing that's critical though: it's own water supply. So they "acquire" water from other places (coff coff). Still. weather and water are not why so many folks are leaving. The earlier comments explain that very clearly. TL:DR So... lessons available for learning? Avoid governing a geographically gorgeous place as an authoritarian shitbird with the manners and bearing of a spoiled child. As beautiful as it is, governors, mayors, city councils, and other jackbooted thugs can increase the grief quotient so much that people finally decide, hey, this beautiful place has become a hellhole to live in unless you have a personal security staff that's 12 deep, live in a gated community with layered defenses, and your ass rests on calf leather seats in a limo or private jet while someone else drives you or flies you around.
Here in KZread Land, people don't like to say, "It's the Government". But it is. California State Government is the reason so many are leaving.
Overcrowded, not as nice as used to be in Rehoboth area ! A lot of aggressive drives too .
great video!
I've lived in California all my life. It's so beautiful and varied here unlike anywhere in the world. We're liberal and forward thinking and the folks that left are right wing Republicans who can't stand that we embrace the future. They want it to be 1983 again.
Because all the crazy people moved to California.
You have obviously never lived here.
So many people live in vehicles while working in the cities until they save enough money to move out.
Seattle and Tacoma have much better natural harbors than San Diego or Los Angeles. And Republicans left California because they are anti-science, anti-constitution and anti-religious freedom.
Last month, (April 2024), my parents came to shop for property in Texas. They are leaving in about a year due to California's high taxes and Texas' lower cost of living, including NO state income tax in the Lone Star State.
In short: California has become a victim of its own success.
Because California is a liberal cesspool, just like New York and Chicago. That's why.
people tend to forget that nearly half of that "perfect geography" are federal lands.
9:25... said it accurately. Three quarters of it's "fruits & nuts"
They aren’t First Nations. They are THE Natives.
1:23 1:25 I was born in saskatchewan. .would rather live there but came to alberta for more work opportunity.. unfortunately..
leftwing politics and greed.
lol, the brain dead right wingers are hilarious. Born and raised in Cali. Been here all my life. While I'm sure it's possible a tiny amount people leave due to politics, the VAST majority have to go because they simply cannot afford to buy a house and start a family. More housing needs to be built, but NIMBYs from all sides resist making it easier to do that. More housing = lower property values, and that hits existing homeowners right in the pocket.
The problem with California is that the southern half is overpopulated, overpriced, there’s too many people. There’s too many cars, way too many highways and roads/infrastructure making places/people trashy, lazy and unhealthy. If they’re not driving in their cars, they’ve taken to crowding the bike paths on their ebikes. If they’re not graffitiing up the rocks and trashing the natural areas, they are driving around with their super loud music and mufflers ruining what little sanity is left. There is a very weird car culture that IS an out of control experiment in socialism gone terribly wrong. If you drive you’re a socialist. The best part of California are the beaches, the Pacific Ocean, the offshore sailing to the islands, all the trails, dirt roads the mountain biking, hiking backpacking, skiing, the lakes, the rivers, the streams, the wildlife, the backcountry, the wilderness areas, the national parks, and the incredible amount of wildlife, clean water in the mountains, the rock climbing, the amazing places see and to live. The weather! I’ve lived here for 40 years and I would never live anywhere else. I don’t care how much it cost me in Taxes .
We let San Francisco Politicians and Politics dominate our State and now they will never relinquish power to many have put their self interest before that of the greater good and our Beautiful State !
Where's Felina?
This is click bait, Cali population is growing
California is FULL. Supply and Demand means people have to leave. Also, the fires and mudslides suck.
Tonga was always independent
LEAVING BECAUSE OF DEMOCRATS
I don't know why people think that people leaving is a bad thing. I wish more people would leave. This huge exodus everyone is talking about is only about 1% of the population. We need about 10 times as many people leaving.
Democrats
Perfect geography? Sure, if you don't like water and do like earthquakes
It's expensive to live in a place that is highly desirable and cheap to live in a place that is not. There is no mystery. The sinister part is that the same type of people that made California expensive to live are exporting those dynamics all over the country for places not half as nice. Any escape will be temporary. It's a systemic issue, not a California one.
I lived in Kentucky for six years while I went to EKU. I met some of the nicest people in the world. I truly miss my old Kentucky home and I hope to return there one day for good.
Born and raised in California and it's a beautiful state with many fantastic cities and natural areas. BUT it is just way too expensive to live there.
You really nailed it when you said that California doesn't build enough housing and that's why it's so expensive to live there. That's the biggest reason why it's so expensive, but not the only one. But many of the people who live there don't seem to understand basic supply and demand when it comes to home prices and rents and/or they don't care about the negative effects of not building enough housing as long as they've got what they want.
After fighting wildfires up and down the state, this is how I personally see it's cities 😂 (Definitely Biased) LA - Fashion, Entertainment, International trade, Mega City with almost every ethnicity especially Central Americans and Mexicans, so much back sweat/back pain being stuck in traffic for hours 😂 San Francisco - Technology, tech jobs, Victorian architecture, Artsy Fartsy, So many Microclimates in weather, Lots of Asians, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, although, LA is packed with Asians also 😂 San Diego - Military, Navy, Defense, Gorgeous people, Hiking trails, and Idk feels more like vacation in Mediterranean hillscape, shares the border with Mexico Sacramento - Agriculture, Farm and food production, low key looks like African Savannah Fields especially in Folsom, Underrated City, and lots of people with flannels and Mining/farming in their bloodline 😂 Come at me
Living here is a love hate relationship. The high salaries help keep up with cost of living but the homeless epidemic, horrible Governor, congestion and high taxes are going to be what cause me to leave.
What if there's no what if?
Politics
too damn expensive. It is an amazing state, but despite making 200,000 dollars, I can't afford to live in the good areas. If you want to live in the desert, it becomes quite affordable. Don't get me started about the lack of water for vast portions of the state.
OK everyone here knows it is because of the cost of living pushing people out of CA but the real question is why is the cost of living so darned high? Politics! The Democrats who run the state have spent their way with program after program for both legal and illegal residents that the taxes have been going through the roof. Not to mention regulation after regulation on every possible part of the lives of it's citizens. Thus, many are just getting the hell out of Dodge or rather LA in this instance. Yes the weather is great and the scenery is great but there are just too many negatives to hang out there any longer.
Anyone who has lived in CA in the past 40 years or so knows exactly why people are moving - if you aren't on the political left in CA you are a second class citizen and a POS. I never felt so oppressed as when I was in CA.
I’m guessing this video took a while to make, and that fairly recent news that California gained population last year really undercuts this thumbnail.
People who leave don't like playing golf in January in a t shirt
Survival of the fittest
I think I got cancer just watching this video. At least that’s what their policies suggest.
Politics and the results thereof
California really is beautiful but it is being run poorly currently. I left in 2020.
The sprawling American style development pattern of california is inherently defective. It produces inferior cultures.
I'll hellpya out. Size and oil.
